Welcome to China Br ita in International

Design Week 2016

China has become the world’s second largest economy and the world’s largest manufacturing base since the economy reform in 1978. The term ‘made in China’ often refers to copy and low-quality products. Transforming from ‘MADE IN CHINA’ to ‘CREATED IN CHINA’ is the main challenge to raise the competitiveness of Chinese products and developing creative industry is the key to be successful. The Chinese enterprises are in the urgent need of worldclass creative designs, thus we created China Britain International Design Week to provide the best platform for dialogues and communications.

CHINA BRITAIN INTERNATIONAL

DESIGN WEEK 2016

28th March 2016 marks the first anniversary of the launch of the Vision and Actions on Jointly Building Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road. The past year witnessed the UK becoming the first among major western countries to join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, which opened the prelude of China-UK cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative. The past year also witnessed Chinese President Xi Jinping paying a “Super State Visit” to the UK, which unveiled the “Golden Era” in China UK relations.

A new era requires new thinking. By 2013, there were 193 approved pilot projects of smart cities in China. Smart city has been viewed as a key strategy to promote creativity, technology, business and sustainable urbanisation. We are confident that with the support of both our governments and our business communities, China and the UK will enhance the synergy between their respective development strategies and expand cooperation within the framework of building smart cities for the future.

The launch of China Britain International Design Week this year in October will provide a unique platform to strengthen ties between individuals, organisations and governments in a variety of sectors including smart cities, low carbon cities, architecture, built environment, transportation and industrial design.

China Britain International Design Week is a new annual international event - an exciting platform, which allows Chinese, British and non-Chinese to build on their mutual strengths, come up with the creative and innovative solutions for the better designs, products and services. This international event will bring together the best of the East and the West.

CBIDW is the first in the UK to explore the impact of economic expansion on Designs in China. It will reveal to UK and International audiences of astonishing vitality of China’s Twenty-First Century Design Culture.

London is the heart of Europe and world’s business centre.

London has an international reputation, which will attract visitors and exhibitors to the China Britain International Design Week.

The potential Chinese global leaders are studying or working in the UK and many of them will be contributing to the world’s economy in the near future. We would like them to better see the development and opportunities that has been made by the innovative Chinese design industry.

With a well-planned and communicated PR and marketing programme, China Design Week will raise the international awareness for the exhibitors, partners and sponsors during and beyond the exhibition. In 2013, China was Britain’s seventh-biggest goods export market, accounting for £12.4 billion of exports. Britain imported £33.4 billion of goods from China over the same period. Following the visit of China’s Vice Premier Ma in London on 11 September, UK says to sign nearly £4 billion in trade deals with China. It is the time for British people to evidence the innovations and changes that will mark the history between China and Britain.

On 26 May 2016, a new FCO (The Foreign and Commonwealth Office) Strategic Prosperity Fund project was announced by UK Business Secretary Vince Cable and Yang Xueshan, the vice minister of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. This project is aiming to promote smart city cooperation between China and the UK. China Britain International Design Week (CBIDW) is pleased to host this timely conference to discuss the possibility of increasing links between China and the UK and examine how Chinese and British business and local governments in both countries can work together to expand the opportunities.

Cities are playing a leading role in addressing the challenges of the twenty-first century. The global challenges of rapid urban population growth, climate change, and pressure on resources, infrastructure and the provision of services can all start to be addressed at the city scale.

Developing smart cities bring many opportunities for business, innovation and skills. Transforming “Cities” to “Smart Cities” is a key challenging for both Chinese and British enterprises urgently in need of close collaboration. What are the driver of innovation and deployment of smart solutions in smart city management? What are the potentials for smart technology to enter the creative industry market?

This afternoon event will bring together investors, industry leaders, architects, engineers, designers, innovators and academics - from a variety of sectors - to provide the opportunity to talk, hear new ideas, discuss best practice in collaboration and find new ways to work together.

This networking event provides an excellent platform for dialogue and communications in this emergent market.
