Modes of Transmission of nonverbal communicationEnvironment. The setting or environment in which you send a message can influence how that message is received.

Interpersonal Distance. The placement of one’s body in relation to someone else is widely used to transmit message. (see the figure bellow)

Posture. Posture communicates a variety of message.

Hand Gesture. Frequent hand movements show positive attitudes toward another person. In contrast, dislike or disinterest usually produces few gestures.

Facial Expressions. Using your head, face, and eyes in combination provides the clearest identifications of interpersonal attitude.

Voice Quality. Often more significance is attached to the way something is said than to what is said.

Personal Appearance. Your external image plays an important role in communicating messages to others.

Be clear• Watch the nonverbal aspect of communicating • Pay attention to the receivers• As necessary, be redundant• Communicate bit by bit• Use varying techniques to send your message• Cover your bases: write it, review it, demonstrate it and defend it• Build in feedback and check for understanding.• Be straightforward with no hidden agenda or lies• Be supportive
