1. Employment Status. In accordance with references (a) and (b), U. s. Naval Mobile Const.ruction Battalion FIVE was deployed to Danang 9 Republic of Vietnam from 25 September 1965 to 15 May 1966. The primary mission was construction in support of tlie III Marine Amphibious Force as directed by Cornmander 9 THIRI'IETH Naval Construction Regiment.
2. Detachments.
ao SEABEE Team 0507: Employed in 0ran at Grid Coordinates BP 392109 on Sheet Number 674-6 IV 9 Series 1701 9 Dalat, Republic of Vietnam, in accordance with reference (c) to provide technical assistance in Socioeconomic and/or military construction areas in support of U.S. Military Civic Action Program. The approximate duration of the deployment was from 28 October 1965 to 14 May 1966.
bo SE.iµIBE Team 0508: Employed in Ban Si Yaek at Grid Coordinates UD 670469 on Sheet Number 5761 LL 9 Series L 708 , Amphoe Sahatsakhan, Thailand in accordance with reference (d) to provide on-the- job training and technical assistance for socio-economic development projects. The approximate duration of the deployment was from October 1965 to 28 June 1966.
c. EO/CM Team: Employed at CBPAC DET, Thailand 9 in accordance with reference (e) to provide training and supervision of indigenous personnel until disbandment on 29 March 1966.
d o Water Well Drilling Team: Eight enlisted men employed on Construction . Item 6PLA20 in Hue-Phu Bai 9 Republic of Vietnam until project was turned over to NMCB SEVEN on 18 April 1966.

eo Detail Delta: Delta Company berthed and messed at NSA 9 Camp Tien Sha 9 Danang during the construction of projects 6PAA21 NSA galley amd 6PGA32~2 NSA covered storage from 27 January 1966 to April 1966.

4. Major Problems: Road construction during the rainy season was extremely difficult. It was practicall y imposs ible to s atisfactorily compact laterite fill at a:ay time duri ng this period. The fill remained spongy and extremely plastic despite all efforts to stabilize it. In some sections near Camp Reasoner it was necessary to cut out, re- fill and re~ compact the spongy sections after the r ainy season.

5. Morale.
a. Morale was at all times excellent in spite of the conditions under which the men lived and worked. By far the most trying period was during the height of the monsoon when all hands worked to keep the roads open.
b. Berthing provided by NMCB FIVE was good and became more comfortable. as canvas cots were replaced by spring and mattress beds, and the onboard count declined to alleviate overcrowding.
c. Messing provided by NMCB FIVE was outstanding. The construction of the Camp Hoover mess hall late in the deployment provided outstanding food in a comfortable atmosphere.
6. Medical and Dental.
