CB West High School Mika Munari Grade 10

Mika is one of the most influential peer influences I have ever witnessed. During advisory,

Mika spends time talking and getting to know his classmates, even those he has not

previously met. In particular, Mika has formed a friendship with another young man in

our advisory who joined our advisory after the school year started. Mika spends time

chatting and catching up with this young man almost every day and it has evolved into a

group of people reaching out and dialoging with this student, who is not in their other

classes, and whom they only have time to spend with during advisory. Beyond advisory,

Mika represents his class on the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee and is a student

leader on the Varsity Basketball Team. In both of these activities, he represents himself

and his peers with respect, maturity, and acceptance. Further, he was the first person in

the class of 2020 to take time to introduce himself to his house principal on the first day of school, leaving a

very positive impression and acting as a role model for his peers. Mika has demonstrated through his actions

that all students deserve one another’s kindness and respect and CB West couldn’t be more proud of Mika for

demonstrating the kindness that we hope every student exhibits on a regular basis.

Unami Middle School Meghan Choromanski Grade 7

Meghan has been an incredible influence and shown kindness to a challenged social and

academic student at Unami. Her kindness and ability to accept differences and include

this student are incredible. She sticks up for her friend and exhibits qualities of a true

friend. Meghan could have chosen to follow the crowd, however she stands up for

what is right over popularity. She is generous with both her time and as well as kindness

and through coaching her friend has made a big impact on this student’s attitude

towards school.

Barclay Elementary School Devlyn Faber Grade 5

Devlyn embodies what positive peer influence and models responsible behavior. She

is a great influence and makes good choices independently, shares her hard work and

contributions with the class daily. Devlyn always has her materials organized and

ready, and she always has her hand up, inspiring others to try, and to share their

thinking. She demonstrates how to be kind, empathetic, and caring each and every

day. She’ll take the time to help others make smart choices, listen to others when they

have a problem, and take time away from her recess to help students and teachers

alike. These qualities have helped our class gel together throughout the year. She gives

her best effort when working alone, with a small group, and with the whole class and

never does anything halfway. She inspires her classmates to do their best and is

always there to lend a helping hand, no matter who she works with. She asks others

for their opinions and thoughts, and values their input, regardless of the task or topic and models how to be a

supportive, inclusive classmate. Devlyn also has a positive attitude and a smile on her face at all times and is

genuinely liked by everyone. Her optimism, kindness, and courage permeate throughout the school, causing

others to follow in her footsteps. Devlyn shows others how to make a difference in the world and through

her dedication to community service and her ideas about fundraisers and charity events, other students have

been inspired to lend a helping hand to our community as well. Devlyn has had a positive influence on

everyone she meets, and will continue to do so today, tomorrow, and beyond.

INNOVATIVE LEARNING

GRANTS IN ACTION

Dr. Lucabaugh began his career as an English teacher at Hatboro Horsham High

School and has been with Central Bucks School District for the last 14.5 years. He

attended Millersville receiving a Bachelors in English Education. Passionate about

education and kids, he pursued a Masters in Educational Administration and recently

graduated from Delaware Valley University with his doctorate in Educational Leadership. Growing up in Hanover, Pa , he was inspired by his father teaching

middle school. “The long term impact he had on the students was impressive as they came back to visit him in their twenties and

thirties, to seek advice and stay connected. His work was meaningful – it mattered, and it inspired

me, both as a boy, and still today.” When you ask him what he likes best about his job “Seeing our

students’ incredible talent on display in the classroom, on stage through music and theater, and in

athletics and art. We have such an impressive group of students, and a supportive community. And

of course, graduation is my favorite – nothing is more satisfying than knowing our kids are walking

across that stage with a strong foundation under them, ready to face life’s challenges. It is deeply

fulfilling and an affirmation of the terrific works our teachers, staff and families do each day at

East.” As for advice, whether it be for his 4 children or the almost 1500 students at CB East “Never

allow your failures to define you. You will make mistakes – your task is to learn from them, and to

realize that everything in life can teach you … if you allow it to. Know who you are, know what you want from life, make a plan and work on it. Every single day.”

CB South’s Swim Coach Jeff Lake

Receives Positive Coaching Award 2018

This year will mark Coach Lake’s last

year as head coach of the Titan’s swim

team and he will be greatly missed. He

will be presented with his trophy and

$500 prize at a ceremony on

Wednesday, June 13th surrounded by

his swim team and their families. On

behalf of CB Cares and our partners at

Bucks County Orthodontics, we’d like

to congratulate Coach Lake!

Titus ES kicked off “Book Clubs for Book Love.” featuring

the novels made possible with an ILG from CB Cares. They

also hosted a “Book Tasting,” which was a restaurant-

themed exploration of the novels so that students can

“sample” or “taste” several with the aim of choosing the

one they would like to read. NOW that’s an Innovative

Learning grant you can sink your mind and teeth into!

Kudos! Mr. Gleicher’s 2018 Astronomy class

for your student signed THANK YOU note

to CB Cares EF for your Innovative Learning

grant this past year to purchase the Alpha

Filtering telescope for your classroom.

CB Cares is proud to bring innovation to
