about the dangerous attacks of Satan, it would be beneficial to read

this booklet from beginning to end.

Bad effects of not Reading Durd Sharf

t is said that someone once saw a person in his dream whowas wearing the hat of a fire worshipper. He was asked the

reason for this. He replied, Whenever the blessed name of theHoly Prophet was taken, I never used to read

Durd Sharf and because of this my deep mystical knowledgeand Imn was snatched. (Saba Sanbil, P35, Maktaba NraRazavyya, Sakar)

Imn at the time of death? We need to understand a crucialissue that even though, seeing a bad dream or a person in a badstate in a dream is certainly a cause of concern. However, the

dream of non-Prophet cannot be considered a conclusive proofor testimony. Based on facts from a dream one cannot considerany Muslim a disbeliever. Even if we see a person in the dreaminforming us that he has lost his Imn, we cannot call him aKfir.

It is Impermissible to write instead of Durd

adr-ush-Shara, Badr-u-arqa, Allma Muft Amjad AlAam has stated, It is Far for a person to reciteDurd Sharf once in his life. In a congregation, it is Wjib toread Durd Sharf when a person hears the blessed name of theHoly Prophet whether he says the blessedname himself or hears it from someone else. If one hears the

    blessed name of the Raslall

a hundredtimes in a gathering, he must read Durd Sharf each time. Ifsomeone hears the blessed name of the Muammad-e-Muaf and does not read Durd Sharf, he should doso later on. When someone writes the blessed name of theHoly Prophet , according to certain scholars, itis Wjib to write Durd Sharf in full. Many people abbreviate

the Durd Sharf and write ,,,,or (SAW) or (PBUH).This is not permissible and is arm. At times, instead of

writing , they write (RA) and instead of ;this also should not be done. (Bar-e-Sharat, Part 3, P101-102,

written, or should be written in full.

    Take Advantage of Exception

Dear Islamic Brothers! The incident you just read was of thatperson who died a shameful death because he did not readDurd Sharf. We should also fear the Divine Independenceand Divine Hidden Plan of All . We should not becomeneglectful in reciting Durd Sharf. There is a possibility that

in the past you may have not read Durd Sharf when hearingthe blessed name of the Holy Prophet , however, since this exception has been made, that if you had not readDurd on time you can read it afterwards, then read it immediately. In future try to recite Durd Sharf on time and if you have missedit for some reason then make up for it and read it later,

Four Reasons for a Bad End

It is stated in Shar-us-udr that there are four reasons for abad end:

    1. Laziness in performing al,2. Consuming alcohol.3. Disobedience to parents,4. Causing harm to Muslims. (Shar-us-udr, P27, Dr-ul-Kutub-

    ul-Ilmiyya, Beirut)

Those Islamic brothers who do not read their al, delayreading their al, do not wake up for Fajr or perform Fajr at

home rather than joining the Masjid congregation without alawful reason should start worrying. Perhaps, this laziness maycause one to have a bad ending during death. In the like manner,

the person who drinks alcohol, disobeys and disrespects hisparents and harms other Muslim, either with his tongue or handsshould sincerely seek repentance.

Mauln Sayyd Muammad Nam-ud-Dn Murdbd states, In reality, repentance is to turn to All .There are three conditions. The first is acknowledgement of

doing wrong, the second is deep regret and the third is sincereintention not to do it again. If the sin is such that it can be re-compensated, then it should be done. For example, if one hasmissed al, then besides seeking forgiveness, he should alsomake up for the missed al. (Khazin-ul-Irfn, P12, Bombay) Ifthis sin was such that the rights of someone was not fulfilled, such as parents, family or any other person, then he has to also

seek the pardon of these people as well. Merely saying sorryis not enough.

The Incident of three bad Habits

It is stated in Minj-ul-bidn that Sayydun Fuayl binAyy once visited one of his disciples who was neardeath. He sat next to his disciple and began to recite Sra

Ysn. The disciple said, Stop reading Sra Ysn. He theninstructed1 his disciple to read the Kalima but his disciple replied,

1 Dont tell a dying person to recite the Kalima but instead start reading italoud so that he also remembers.

I will never read this Kalima and I have nothing to do withthe Kalima and he died saying these words. Sayydun Fuaylbin Ayy was shocked and deeply agonised by the

way his student had died. He sat in his house and cried for 40days. After the 40th day, he saw this same student being forcedtowards Hell by the angels. Sayydun Fuayl bin Ayy

inquired from his disciple, What is the reason for this? Youpossessed a very high status amongst the other students. Thestudent replied, It was because of three bad habits. The first istale-telling. I used to tell one thing to my friends and something

else to you. The second is jealousy - I used to envy my friendsand the third is drinking of alcohol. Because I wished to treat acertain illness based on the advice of a certain doctor I used todrink a glass of alcohol every year. (Minj-ul-bidn, P165)

Dear Islamic Brothers! Become fearful of All and try toplease Him. It was because of these three bad habits that a

student of a famous saint actually uttered words of Kufr (disbelief)at the time of death.

Sadr-ush-Shara, Badr-ut-arqa, Allma Muft Amjad AlAam has stated, If a person utters words of Kufr(disbelief) at the time of death, the ruling of Kufr cannot beapplied to that person because perhaps it was due to the pain ofdeath that he uttered these words while in a state of unconsciousness.(Bar-e-Sharat, Part 4, Maktaba-tul-Madna, Karachi)

Accounting with the Face of a Dog

Sadly, tale-telling has become common to such an extent that

many people are perhaps not even aware that they arecommitting this evil deed. Telling tales is very destructive inthe Hereafter. Raslall has stated, Thepeople who backbite, taunt and mock others, tell tales and findfaults with innocent people will arise (on the Day of Judgment)in the form of dogs. (At- targhb Wattarb, V3, P225, Dr-ul-Kutub-ul-Ilmiyya, Beirut) It is mentioned in another ad Sharf that

the one who tells tales will not enter Heaven. (a Bukhr, V4,P115, ad 6056, Dr-ul-Kutub-ul-Ilmiyya, Beirut)

    The Definition of Tell-tale

It is necessary that we save ourselves from acts and deedswhich can destroy us. To save ourselves it is also necessary tohave understanding of these acts. The definition of tale-telling

is being presented, Allma An narrates from ImmNawav that, To convey someones words to anotherwith the intention to cause harm is considered as tale-telling.(Umda-tul-Qr, ad 612, V2, P594, Dar-ul-Fikr, Beirut)

Do we Save Ourselves from Telling tales?

How unfortunate! These days tale-telling and backbiting has

become very common during conversation. This takes placewhether it is amongst friends, a religious occasion, during awedding or even when attending a funeral, when meetingsomeone or while on the phone. Even if the conversation is for

    7

a short while, many people, even those who possess religiousknowledge, on analysing their conversation, you will find togetherwith many sinful words, words of tale-telling and backbiting.

What will happen to us? Read this ad once more that Theone who tells tales will not enter Heaven. If only we couldpractice Qufl-e-Madna of the tongue and only speak whennecessary. It is very difficult for a person who enjoys sittingwith friends who are only interested in worldly things to savehimself from tale-telling and backbiting. It is mentioned inad that he who speaks excessively, also commits many mistakes.

Whoever commits mistakes excessively also commits manysins and whoever commits many sins becomes more entitledto the fire of Hell. (ilya-tul-Auliy, V3, P87-88, ad 3278, Dr-ul-Kutub-ul-Ilmiyya, Beirut)

Tjdr-e-Rislat, Shaansh-e-Nubvat, Mabb-e-Rab-ul-Izzat has stated, Good news for that person

who refrains from excessive talk and spends his wealth inexcess (for the pleasure of Allah ). (Al-Mujam-ul-Kabr, V5, P71-72,Dr Iy-ut-Tur-ul-Arab, Beirut) A blessed companion said, There are times when a person says something to meand I desire to answer him to such a degree (even more) than athirsty person would desire cold water. Yet, I fear giving himan answer thinking that it might become useless speech.(Ittifussda-til-Muttaqn, V9, P159, Dr-ul-Kutub-ul-Ilmiyya, Beirut)

Dear Islamic brothers! Look at the fear of that blessed companion

who feared giving an answer even though he

was justified in doing so and yet, look at our behaviour, we do

    8

not stop backbiting, telling tales or even false allegations. Oh!What will become of us? Oh All give us common senseto stay away from sinful talks and grant us Qufl-e-Madna of

    the tongue.

Dear Islamic brothers! From the previous stated incident, jealousywas also mentioned. The disease of jealously has also becomewidespread. It is stated in ad that, Jealously consumes gooddeeds like how fire consumes wood. (Sunan Ibn-e-Mja, V4, P473,ad 4210, Dr-ul-Marifa, Beirut)

    Definition of Jealously

The person who commits asad (jealously) is called a sidand the person against whom it has been committed is called aMasd. The definition of jealousy has been explained as such

    in Lisn-ul-Arab, volume 3, page 166,

The meaning ofasad is that you wish a blessing, which is with the

Masd, to get destroyed and become yours.

The Meaning of Jealousy in Simple WordsDear Islamic Brothers! From this explanation we come to realisethat when you see someone with something good and youdesire that that thing leaves him and become yours, for example,

  • 8/8/2019 Causes for a Bad End

    9

if you see someone who is respected or famous and you wishthat he becomes disgraced and his respect or fame becomesyours. If you are burning with jealousy over wealthy person

and wish that his wealth be destroyed and he becomes poor. You desire that his wealth becomes yours so that you becomerich. This type of desire is jealously. All forbid, thisdisease has become quite widespread. In the present time, lotsof effort is being made in trying to destroy the businesses ofothers. People accuse others and look for faults in their products.Because of jealousy, they become guilty of lies, backbiting, tale-

telling and who knows what other sins. In many Muslims thesedays, the spirit of Islamic brotherhood is disappearing. How

virtuous the Muslims of the past were can be seen from thefollowing incident:

    The Incident of Qub-e-Madna

It is said that the caliph of Al arat, Qub-e-Madna Sayydun

Z-ud-Dn Amad Qdir Razav settled in MadnaSharf when the Turkish government was serving Islam. He stayed in the blessed city for nearly 77 years and hisblessed grave is in Jannat-ul-Baq. Someone once asked Qub-e-Madna , Y Sayyid! How were the people of MadnaSharf before (during the time of the Turks)? He replied, A rich Haji intending to distribute material among

the poor went to a cloth merchant. He also made it clear thathe desired to purchase a large amount of material. The shopkeeperreplied, I can fulfil your order, however, my request is thatyou buy your cloth from the shop in front of me. The reason is

that , I have had good business today, and however,my neighbouring shopkeeper has had very little sales. Thegreat saint then said, The people of Madna Sharf

were like this in the past. May All bless him and forgiveus for his sake.

Remove from my heart worldly love and me from its destructionsave

Make me oh King of Madna ! Like a frenzied lover

The Story of two Mains who liked Beardless

    Youth

Sayydun Abdull bin Ahmad Main says, I wasbusy in doing awf of the Kaba when I saw a person whowas holding onto the cover of the Kaba and kept on repeatingthis Du, Oh All ! Let me depart from this world as a

Muslim. I asked him, Why dont you make any other Dubesides this? He said, I had two brothers. My eldest brotherused to given An in the Masjid free of charge for 40 years. Atthe time of his death, he asked for the Holy Quran. We gavehim a copy of the Quran thinking that he would gain blessingsfrom it but he held the Quran and said, All of you be witnessesthat I am expressing my disgust with all my belief in, and all

the rules of the Quran and I am accepting Christianity. Thenhe died. My other brother gave An in the Masjid for 30 yearsfree of charge but in the end he also died a Christian. Therefore,I am very worried about my end. This is why I keep making

Du for a good death (with Imn). Sayydun Abdull binAmad Main inquired, After all what sinful activitieswere your brothers involved in? The man replied, They showed

interest in female (Na-Maram2) and would look lustfully at youngboys. (Ro-ul-Fiq, P17, Dr-ul-Kutub-ul-Ilmiyya, Beirut)

Veiling from even Your Close Relatives

Dear Islamic Brothers! What a calamity! Will we still not saveourselves from Na-Maram females, unveiling and informality?

Will we not guard our eyes from people like our sister-in-lawand uncles wives (paternal and maternal)? (In Shara theyare also considered Na-Maram). In like manner, there shouldbe a veil between your cousin sisters and between brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws. There should also be a strict veil betweena female disciple and her Murshid. A female is not allowed tokiss the hands of her Pr if the Pr is na-Maram.

To look at an Amrad (beardless youth) with lust is

    arm

Beware! An Amrad is nothing but fire and danger. To be closeto him, to have close friendship with him, to joke and have funwith him, to wrestle with him, to hold and embrace him areacts that can eventually lead a person to Hell. There is safety in

being far away from such an Amrad, even though the Amradhimself is not at fault. Do not torment him. It is necessary that

2 Na-Maram -with whom marriage is legally permissible.

you save yourself from such a youngster. Do not let him sit infront of you on a scooter or even behind you. Protect yourselffrom ardour at all times. Even if there is no lust, embracing him

can possibly be source of fitna (trial). If you have lust then toembrace him, even to shake his hand, and according to somescholars, even to look at him with lust is arm. (Tafsr-e-Amadyya,P559, Peshawar) Protect your eyes from looking at any part of hisbody even his clothes. If one becomes overcome by lust just bythinking of him or imagining him, then this should be avoidedas well. If ones lust increases due to being attracted by his

writing or any other thing, then one should protect ones eyesfrom all such things. So much so, that even looking at his houseshould be avoided. If by looking at his father or at the elderbrother makes you think of this Amrad and increase your lust, then seeing such people should also be avoided.

Seventy Devils with the Amrad (beardless youth)

Trying to make us aware of the evil schemes, plots and plans ofSatan with regards Amrad, Al arat states, Thereare two devils with a female, whilst there are seventy devils withan Amrad. (Fatw-e-Razavyya, V23, P721) It is highly necessaryfor a person to protect his eyes and body from a na-Maramfemale and from an Amrad. You have already read the worryingstory of the two people who apparently were doing good butyet look at their end? Please refer to booklet printed byMaktaba-tul-Madna, Amrad Pasand k Tabkriyn (Thedestruction of preferring Amrad) which deals with this issue ingreater detail.

The uncontrollable nafs incites on towards sinfulness

We need to become habitual in seeking forgiveness

Not to perform aj can also be a means of a BadEnd

The Holy Prophet has stated, If there areno physical obstacles to a person, neither is there an oppressiveking who restricts him and nor is there a severe illness whichcan restrict him and yet, the person dies without performingHajj, then it doesnt matter whether he dies as a Jew or as aChristian. (Sunan Drim, V2, P45, ad 1785, Bb-ul-Madna, Karachi)

From this we come to realise that the person upon whom Hajjhas become Far, and he dies failing to perform it, there is greatdanger that he could have a bad end at the time of death.

Fear of a Bad end for the one who speaks during

    An

Whilst quoting Fatw-e-Razavyya, Sadr-ush-Shara, Badr-ut-Tarqa, Allma Muft Amjad Ali Aam says,Whoever continues to speak while the An is being given, isin danger of having a bad end. All forbid. (Bar-e-Sharat, Part 3, P41, Maktaba-tul-Madna, Karachi)

The Person who Replied to An became Heavenly

Dear Islamic Brothers! When the An begins, you should stopwhatever you are doing and reply to the An. If however, one

    14

is walking to the Masjid or performing Wuu, he may continueto do so and still respond to the An. If many An are beinggiven, it is enough to only reply to the first one, however, it is

better to reply to all of them. What can we say about the fortuneof the one who replies to An! It is stated in Trkh-e-Dimishq,

volume 40, page 412, Sayydun Ab Huraira narratesthat a person who did not apparently seem to have many gooddeeds passed away. After his passing away, the Holy Prophet said to his blessed companions , Doyou know that All has made this person enter Heaven?

The blessed companions were surprised by this becausehe did not seem to have done any remarkable deed. Later on,one of the companions went to visit the house of thedeceased and asked the wife of this person to inform him ofany special deeds of her husband. She replied, I do not knowof any special deed but what I do know is that whether it wasday of night, whenever he heard the An, he always replied.

    (Trkh-e-Dimishq by Ibn Askir, V40, P412, Dr-ul-Fikr, Beirut)

May All bless him and forgive us for his sake.

To educate yourself further on the An and the reply whichshould be given, refer to the booklet, Blessings of An whichis available from Maktaba-tul-Madna.

advised him to recite the Kalima many times but he continuedto say Ten, eleven! Ten, eleven! When the man was asked asto why he continued to say this, he replied, There is a mountain

of fire in front of me, whenever I try to read the Kalima, thismountain of fire threatens to burn me. The great saint then asked the people as to what work this person used to doin the world. They replied that he took interest and used tofalsify the weight on the scale. (Takira-tul-Auliy, P52-53, Tehran)

    The Punishment for Robbing through

    Measurement and Weight

Ah! The destruction of that person who takes interest and robspeople through short measurement. Those who want to becomea fuel for the fire of Hell merely because of a bit of money, listencarefully! It is stated in R-ul-Bayn that the person who robsthrough short measurement and weight will be placed in a

deep valley in Hell on the Day of Judgment. He will be made tosit in between two mountains and would be told to weigh andmeasure these mountains. When he starts to measure them, fire will engulf him and he will burn. (R-ul-Bayn, V10, P364,Quetta)

The Bad end of a Shaykh

It is said that once Sayydun Sufyn aur and SayydunShaybn R were once sitting together. SayydunSufyn aur continued to cry the entire night. WhenSayydun Shaybn R asked him the reason for this,

    16

he replied, I am weeping in fear of having a bad end at thetime of death. I received education from a sheikh for 40 years. He worshipped for 60 years in Masjid-ul- arm but he died

in a state of Kufr (disbelief). Sayydun Shaybn replied,Oh Sufyn! This was his misfortune due to his sins, youshould therefore, never disobey All . (Saba Sanbil, P34,Maktaba Nra Razavyya, Sakar)

The Former teacher of the Angels

Dear Islamic Brothers! All is certainly independent inHis Divine Being and no one knows His divine secret plans. No one should boast about his knowledge or his worship. Satanperformed worship for thousands of years. Due to his knowledgeand his worship, he even became known as the teacher of theAngels. Yet, his boastfulness and pride destroyed him and hebecame a disbeliever. It is due to this that he tries all his might

to mislead people. He spends his every moment in creating evilwhispers in people and when a person is about to die, he usesall his power to anyhow make people to leave this world with abad ending.

Satan in the Form of your Parents

It is stated that when a person is about to leave this world, two

Satans come and sit on his right and left hand side. The Satanon the left side adopts the appearance of the persons fatherand says, Oh son! Look, I am your kind and concerned father.I advise you to accept the religion of Christianity and then die

because this is the best religion. The Satan on his right handside advises him, Oh my beloved child! I kept you in mywomb. I fed you milk and cared for you in my lap. Oh beloved

son! I advise you that you should accept Judaism before dyingbecause this is the best religion. (Takira by Imm Qurub, P38,Dr-ul-Kutub-ul-Ilmiyya, Beirut)

One drop of pain experienced at the time of Death

Dear Islamic Brothers! It is certainly a very worrisome issue.

When a person has a fever or has a severe headache, it is verydifficult for him to make a clear decision. The pain at the timeof death is even more severe. It is stated in Shar-us-udrthat if a drop of the pain during death is distributed among theinhabitants of all the worlds and the skies, all of them woulddie. (Shar-us-udr, P32, Dr-ul-Kutub-ul-Ilmiyya, Beirut) If at thisdelicate moment, Satan appears in the form of ones parents, imagine how difficult would it be to remain steadfast on thereligion of Islam. It is stated in Kmy-e-Sadat, that, SayydunAb Darda states, By All ! No-one can feel self-assured and confident that at the time of death he will remainin Islam. (Kmy-e-Sadat, V2, P825, Tehran)

Satan in the Form of Friends

ujja-tul-Islam arat Sayydun Imm Muammad Ghazl states, When death is near, Satan appears with hiscompanions disguised as the friends and relatives of the dyingperson. They all say to this person, Brother! We have already

tasted death before you. Whatever happens after death, we arefully aware of. Now it is your time. We advise you that youadopt Judaism because this is the religion which is acceptable

to All . If the dying person does not accept this advice, these Satans appear in the shape of his other friends and advisehim, Adopt the religion of Christianity because this is the religionwhich has cancelled the religion of Moses. In this manner, theyadopt various disguises in the form of various friends and advisehim to adopt the belief of different misled sects. For whomsoeverit was written that he would turn away from the truth, would

accept the corrupt sects and become misled. (Dur ra -tul-fkhira,Dr-ul-Kutub-ul-Ilmiyya, Beirut)

    What will happen to us?

May All have mercy on our condition. We do not knowwhat will happen to us at the time of death. We have committedmany sins. We do not have any good deeds to our name. OhAll ! Prevent Satan from coming to us at the time ofdeath and bless us with a visit from the Muammad-e-Muaf .

Bless me with the vision of beloved at the time of death

You wont lose anything with me dying in joy and mirth

Protect your Tongue!Dear Islamic Brothers! Muslims should always be fearful of theDivine Hidden Plan of All . We do not know which baddeed can earn the eternal wrath of All and become a

danger to our Imn. We should continue to display humilityand humbleness in front of All . Try to speak less becauseat times while talking excessively, we may utter words of

disbelief and not even be aware of it. We should always striveto protect our Imn and be concerned about it. Al arat has said, He who does not fear losing his Imn (whilehe is alive), there is fear that he could lose his Imn at the timeof death. (Malf Sharf, V4, P390, mid & Company, Lahore)

Madan flowers for a Good end

Dear Islamic Brothers! Worry...Worry We should be veryworried because we do not know what the Divine Hidden Planof All is for us. We do not know what our endingwould be like. ujja-tul-Islam Sayydun Imm Muammad

Dear Islamic Brothers! Whichever unlucky person dies in thestate of disbelief, the grave will crush him to such an extentthat his ribs on both sides would intertwine with each other. Forthe disbelievers, there is even worse torment than this. Eventually when the sinful Muslims are removed from Hell, onlythose will remain who died as disbelievers. Finally, the disbelieverswill be locked in a box the size of their body, made of fire. It

will be filled with fire. A lock of fire will then be placed on thisbox. This box of fire will then be placed into another box offire and in between the both, a fire would be lit. Again, anotherlock of fire would be placed on this. This would then be placed
