Sales Management Comments

As the bull sale season comes near the end, many purebred and com-mercial breeders often have the mindset that the quality of the bulls in the later sales goes down. This is absolutely NOT the case at Transcon’s Cattle Country 2019. There are only so many days on the calendar to host a sale.

On offer there will be approximately 80 bulls that are the top cut from each breeding program. Bulls that have the extra days to mature and look like bulls. The offering has it all from Big Power Bulls to Easy Calving Heifer Bulls. The quality is high and has a bull for whatever your program needs to take it to the next level. The bulls are developed slowly to fit the later sale date.

Being a consignment sale and having so many different breeding programs and genetics, I am happy to say after touring the bull pens in early January, I came away thinking to myself, “Wow, these guys have a really strong sale offering this year”.

The bulls fit the part as future herd bulls, big bodied, long spined, with muscle definition and structurally sound.

Four flushmate full brothersThese full brothers are a result of a flush to the immortal 56U and our go to girl, Chyna. Last time I checked there were 38 calves registered to her. These guys are exactly what we hoped for, strong topped bulls with good depth and thick quarters to them. They will sire females to die for with the 56U-Chyna combination. Welcome to the 2019 Transcon's Cattle Country Simmental Bull Sale!

This is our second year consigning and we would like to thank the Transcon Livestock team for allowing us once again to be part of the sale.

This definitely was a challenging winter for the cattle with record breaking cold temperatures that just didn't seem to want to let up for any length of time. Let's hope for an early spring and the sun shines April 6th!

Our line up this year consists of 4 baldy bulls that carry exceptional performance, structural soundness, and top of the line pedigrees. All 4 bulls have moderate birth weights and their dams are from top performing females in our herd. These bull calves were not supplemented with creep until the new year to ensure longevity for their new owner.

I am the herd veterinarian for McRuer Sim-mentals, and most recently conducted breed-ing soundness evaluations on a group of eight yearling sale bulls. Most of these bulls have scrotal circumference measurements that significantly exceed the breed average. In addition, these bulls are well-muscled, yet lean, which should contribute to breeding soundness and longevity. The bulls were vac-cinated with Bovi-Shield Gold One Shot and Covexin Plus in the spring and fall of 2018.
