Views from Fr. Larry Pichard, Pastor Welcome once again to our new Priest Fr. Artemio Patiño. By the way I am still on vacation in the cool mountains, and I will be back August 13th. Even if we had a dozen priests, we still couldn’t do everything. That’s why we must rely upon all the members of the Body of Christ to serve each other. St. Paul says in his first letter to the Corinthians that every member of the body serves a function. In light of modern medicine, modern biology, modern biochemistry, we now have greater insight into that vision that St. Paul had. Now we can say that every organ system (heart, lungs, digestive, neural), every cell, every mitochondria, every lymphocyte, etc. must be functioning in order to have a healthy body. If one system breaks down, we get sick. If the heart were to say, “Good Golly, I’ve been pumping blood every second for 80 years, and I’m tired, I’ll just quit,” well, you know the consequences. Thus it is with the Body of Christ, the parish. Every single parishioner has a function, not just the priest or the deacon or the staff or 100 dedicated parishioners, but all 7,000. If we don’t do that, then we are a sick parish. In order to have a great parish everybody needs to do something in which they use a talent they know they have or they just try doing a particular ministry and then discover they had the talent all along! So, Stewardship Sunday is coming up in August. Take a look at pages 8 and 9 in our bulletin and look at the various ministries—dozens and dozens. If you don’t know what that ministry does, just visit our website or give us a call. We will be happy to help you match a ministry to your talent.

In 1 Corinthians chapter 12, St. Paul says, “To each person the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good (verse 7)…You, then are the body of Christ. Every one of you is a member of it.” (verse 27.) Or, as I say, “We need you.”

How does our parish attract inquirers each year who consider becoming Catholic?

The short answer is you!

“Go out into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15

St. Francis is a welcoming and evangelizing community and we take seriously our call to share the Divine message of salvation. It

happens in parish families, in the workplace, in gatherings with friends and neighbors, and in daily contacts.

Give thanks to God as He continuously strengthens each of

us who seek to do His Will in offering a gentle, humble, and clear wel-

come to the Catholic faith.

Please refer anyone who is interested in findingout about the RCIA

process here at St. Francis to call Melissa Silvestro, Adult and Family

Life Director at 972-712-2645, ext. 230.

EMF students have medi-cal insurance, spending money for their per-sonal expenses and expect to share their host family’s daily life including household respon-sibilities. They speak English, are well-screened and eager to experience life in America. It is not too late to apply.
