Catholic Community of Billerica March 22, 2020

billericacatholic.org

As the well known poem “Footprints in the Sand” says, at the most difficult time

in our lives, God goes beyond simply walking with us, but he carries us. Because

we believe the Church to be the Body of Christ and true presence of God in

our midst, we can be assured that God is journeying with us and at times carry-

ing us. The Catholic Community of Billerica along with the Archdiocese of Boston want to make every effort

to continue to provide the pastoral care to the people of our parishes and beyond, though we, like many

other organizations are prudently adapting our pastoral care to protect the health and well-being of the

many people we care for. Therefore, we want to share how we will provide pastoral care during this time of

health concern, under the guidelines set by the Archdiocese of Boston.

In his most recent communication of Monday, March 16, Cardinal Seán writes “For these most serious rea-

sons I wish to reiterate that without exception all Masses and religious services that would normally be open

to the public in all Archdiocesan parishes, missions, and campus ministries are suspended until further no-

tice.” Therefore, there will be no public Masses celebrated on weekdays or weekends, including the Stations

of the Cross on Fridays.

The Catholic Community of Billerica will provide Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament during the regu-larly scheduled Sunday Masses for the Fourth Sunday of Lent, March 21-22 (including 4pm on Saturday,

March 21). There will be resources available to guide your prayer during your visit to the church, including

the texts of the Mass for the Fourth Sunday of Lent.

The dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass for the Catholics of the Archdiocese of Boston remains

in place until public celebration of the Mass can be safely resumed. The celebration of the Mass will continue

to be televised on both CatholicTV (Channel 268 on Comcast/Xfinity, and Channel 296 for Verizon/FIOS)

and EWTN (Channel 291 on Comcast/Xfinity, and Channel 285 for Verizon/FIOS).

Our churches will be open for private prayer according to our regular schedule during the week. We will

continue to provide the sacrament of Penance at the regularly scheduled times. We ask that you always

practice social distancing whenever you are in contact with other Parishioners and with your neighbors.

As we all wait to see the scope of the restrictions on our community and our Church, we will not be sched-

uling additional Mass intentions for dates before July 1, 2020. Baptisms, Weddings, and Funerals may pro-

ceed, but following Governor Baker’s Emergency Order issued March 15, attendance must be limited to no

more than 25 people. In the interests of the health of the people we serve, these liturgies should be limited

to only immediate family.

We will do all we can to continue to staff our offices and respond to your faith needs. In order to do that,

we rely heavily on your regular financial support of our Parishes. In order to continue your giving,

* You may leave contributions during any of the Holy Hours.

* You may mail your envelopes for any of our parishes or other donations to: One Grace Ave, Billerica,

Massachusetts 01821.

* You may bring your contributions to any of our Parish Offices.

* You may make a one-time or recurring contribution through online giving at billericacatholic.org:

1. Open billericacatholic.org in your browser

2. Choose Quick Links

3. Choose your parish under “Online Giving”.

We want to update you about the continuing steps that the Catholic Community of Billerica is taking to nav-

igate these challenging times. We will keep https://billericacatholic.org/ updated with the latest information,

as well as our Facebook group “Catholic Community of Billerica.” If you, a family member or neighbor

would like to receive future email updates, please ask them to provide us with their name and email address

by calling 978.663.8816 or send email to [email protected], and we will add you to our list.

Most importantly, we ask for your prayers as we continue to provide pastoral care in this difficult time in

our community. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we adapt to the restrictions and changes

required for safety. ~ Father Aveni

A Note From Our New Director of Worship I am so excited to begin my ministry as Director of Worship, journeying

with all in the Catholic Community of Billerica. This is my 27th year as a lay

ecclesial minister in the Archdiocese of Boston. While ministering in the archdiocese as Director of Worship for various Collaboratives, I am also

a “Minister-in-the-Vicinity” at Boston College and St. John’s Seminary tak-

ing Theology courses leading to my certification as a Pastoral Associate.

These are exciting and changing times in the Church. Vatican Council II’s

document, Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, reminds us “that the faithful be led to that full, conscious, and

active participation in liturgical celebrations called for by the very nature of the liturgy.” The liturgy is the

perfect expression of the Church, “the summit toward which all the Church’s activity is directed and the

source of all her power.” All our ministries flow from the celebration of the Eucharist. Through our Baptism,

we are all called to serve the Church. I look forward to meeting everyone, serving our faith community, sing-

ing God’s praises, and calling forth you to serve the Church in ministry! ~Dr. Paul Ciotti

Billerica Catholic Funeral Planning The Catholic Community of Billerica shares in your grief as you suffer the

loss of a loved one. The prayers and support of the collaborative parish-

es are with you at this difficult time. The Church’s prayer in the Rite of

Christian Burial focuses our attention on the mystery of the suffering,

death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the promise that

we, too, and your loved one, are called to share in that gift of new and

everlasting life. It is a time in which the Lord gives us comfort, healing, and

peace. In order to assist you in planning the Funeral Liturgy, we have

made some thoughts and guidelines available at billericacatholic.org. In addition you may reach out to Dr.

Paul Ciotti, our Director of Worship, at 978-663-8816 x 216 for any support and guidance that you may

need during your planning. Again, the prayers and support of our parishes are with you at this difficult time.
