Reflection
“Prepare the way of the Lord…” - Mark 1:3
We are called to live a holy life. We are called to invite others to live holy lives. Living a stewardship lifestyle, being grateful and generous with our gifts, does that - it puts us on the path to holiness and it invites others to be holy, too.

Second Sunday of Advent
Dear family,
“People get ready, there's a train comin' You don't need no baggage, you just get on board All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'
You don't need no ticket you just thank the Lord.”- Curtis Mayfield
Ah, if only it was that easy…no car to worry about, no parallel parking or driving around a crowded parking lot this time of year thinking either not-so-kind thoughts, or praying to either St. Anthony or St. Therese the Little Flower to find you a parking spot. Just getting on the train, no bags, no ticket, just you. But that’s not reality, is it? Most of us have to deal with traffic and soon enough ice scrapers, and we all have baggage to manage. We must figure out how to get where we are going, to reach our destination in the quickest way possible. Thank goodness for GPS! We must have a plan; we must prepare the way.
We also once again encounter St. John the Baptist this weekend, who reminds us to make no mistake, people, there is a train a-comin’… the Love Train, the Jesus Train, (not to be confused with The Jesus and Mary Chain). He invites us to join him in
preparing the way of the Lord, which is really preparing the way to the Lord. That’s what John the Baptist does. J-to-the-B is like a biblical GPS, if you will, always pointing us toward Jesus. He reminds us, like Curtis Mayfield, that it really is that easy, after all. Just get on board. He tells us that this way, this road, to the Lord, is a familiar one, rooted in repentance, turning back to God, re-orienting ourselves back to God, back to the Way. Leave your baggage behind and get on board.
Anyway, as we prepare to celebrate our Lord’s three-fold coming to us in history, mystery, and majesty, let us remember, people, to get ready, by not thinking so much of ourselves this season, but of others. What can I do for someone else? Let’s take the time to prepare our hearts as well as our homes this Advent.
Today as we celebrate the Second Sunday of Advent, we light the first two purple candles on the advent wreath here with our parish family at church. Here is this week’s prayer, taken from the Best Advent Ever program at dynamiccatholic.com.
Week 2, Peace
Dear Jesus, you entered our world on Christmas as the Prince of Peace. This Advent, as we strive to
become the-best-version-of-ourselves, fill us with a deep and abiding peace. Help us share that peace with
everyone we encounter, especially those who need it most. Amen.
Upcoming Events:
This Saturday, December 9- “Advent by Tail Light” Event for ALL MEN of our parish! Beginning right after 5 p.m. Mass at 6 p.m. on our parking lot, join us for food and fellowship!
