Mrs. Ansbacher’s reputation in the community as well as her energy and dedication have helped Catholic Charities increase services from tax preparation, translation services, women’s support group meetings and Christmas gift programs to an even wider array of family support and case-management. She was instrumental in finding the program a new home in 2006 and in soliciting needed funds. Continued on p. 5
Caroline Ansbacher has been a driving force behind Centro La Comunidad for more than a decade. A founder of this family center in Burlington, Caroline serves on the Advisory Council of Centro La Comunidad. This is a volunteer group which gathers periodically to assess the needs of the family support program and services run out of Centro’s storefront location at 928 East Webb Avenue. They help to secure funds as well as provide ideas and support to the small staff directed by Jeremy Ireland.
As a long-time community organizer and former elected official, Mrs. Ansbacher saw the need for Catholic Charities involvement after she worked on the 1998 United Way Community Council study of the Latino population in Alamance County. “This community of Latinos is growing and they are vulnerable,” said Mrs. Ansbacher during a recent interview. “I have always been especially sensitive to those who don’t know our language.” A world traveler, Mrs. Ansbacher learned to speak Spanish from her numerous visits to Spanish-speaking countries.
Services Increase in the Newton Grove Deanery
With the cooperation of the parishes in the Newton Grove deanery, Catholic Charities has increased the services provided to that region. Members of our Cape Fear, Fayetteville and Tar River offices provide the following services twice monthly: • immigration assistance and counseling at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Newton Grove • family support, immigration and counseling at St. Teresita in Beulaville • periodic presentations such as NC Justice Center’s Eastern Carolina Immigrants’
Rights Project at Santa Teresita and the training of parish social ministry volunteers at St. Ann’s in Clayton.

Thank you to all those who contributed to our Spring Appeal this year. As you know, Catholic Charities relies heavily on support from the Bishop’s Annual Appeal (BAA). The BAA covers nearly one-third of our operating budget. The remainder of the funds, over $2 million, are raised through grant-writing, subsidized fee schedule, United Way and state and federal combined campaigns and the generosity of donors like you. To make a secure donation online please visit our website at: http://catholiccharities.dioceseofraleigh.org and select “How to Contribute” from the menu on the right.
Check out our page on Facebook.com from time to time for more updates.

Volunteer Profile continued from p. 1 Volunteers and Staff of Centro La Comunidad
Thanks to Our Donors
As a member of the Advisory Council, Mrs. Ansbacher made a call for volunteers: “We constantly need to get new blood on the Council…like any organization, to remain healthy, we need to find new people to come and be part of this group.” Catholic Charities salutes Caroline Ansbacher and the Advisory Council for their continuous support and involvement in assisting the most vulnerable among us!
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS
While not everyone can bring 30 years of public service and the depth of knowledge Mrs. Ansbacher has of the community, all types of talents and experience are needed in each of Catholic Charities Regional Offices. Whether your interest is in meeting with clients and conducting in-take interviews, serving on an advisory or parish social ministry council, or helping organize a fun and successful special event, know that your volunteerism will be appreciated. If you have an hour or two you can give each week or once a month, please consider calling your nearest Regional Office (see listing on front page) or contact Development Director Patricia Reid at 919-821-8146 or [email protected] for more information.
