Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time "Found" is a great word! It can have so many levels of meaning.
Obviously it means having recovered something that was misplaced or lost. My aged mother is forever "finding" her glasses, even though they are usually on the table under the mail or the newspaper. Found can also mean to begin something or to set something up. The parish I worship at, like the one you belong to, had a founding pastor who organized the beginning of community in response to the bishop's request or the call of the people in the area. Anyone who works with molten material also knows that to found means casting that metal or glass object in a place
called (of course!) a foundry. Jesus tells the story today of a woman who has ten coins and lost one. All three meanings of the word "found" are part of parable. The coin was found (that is cast) by a treasury, either the emperor's or that of a
local realm. Having lost the coin, the woman found (that is recovered) it after searching the whole house. The recovery of the coin occasioned the founding (that is the initiation) of her rejoicing. The parable of the
lost coin is truly about founding. Like that coin, we may be lost at times, but God finds us. He recovers us
from whatever has separated us from him, whether that is sin, the distractions of life, or the fragility of our faith. In finding us, God
renews us. He remolds us and forms us more and more into people with a lively faith. Like that molten metal that is founded into a coin, the love
of God purifies us and remakes us anew, casting us into the image of Christ. By asking God's forgiveness and by praying for a renewal of
faith, we gain a new foundation and so can begin again, living the way Christ has taught us, filled with the love of God and love for our
brothers and sisters.

Why do we celebrate Catechetical Sunday? In 1935, the Vatican published On the Better Care and Promotion of Catechetical Education, a document that asks every country to acknowledge the importance of the Church’s teaching ministry and to honor those who serve the Christian community as catechists. For the first few years after Catechetical Sunday was established, national catechetical congresses were held in conjunction with the celebration. Beginning in 1971, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishop’s (USCCB) Department of Education began producing materials to help parishes celebrate the event at the local level. When the Committee on Catechesis, now named the Committee of Evangelization and Catechesis, was named by the Conference as a standing Committee, it continued to publish Catechetical Sunday materials each year. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has designated the third Sunday in September as Catechetical Sunday. What Does the Word “Catechetical” Mean? The word might be more familiar than you think. Many Catholics have used the word "catechism" for years, and they know it has something to do with the compendium of the Church's teachings. The root word, “catechesis,” is from a Greek word meaning "to echo, or resound." Catechesis is the act of resounding or bringing the Church's teachings to the world. A catechist is one who teaches in the name of the Church. Catechesis is a distinct and special ministry in the Church. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church makes clear, “Catechesis is intimately bound up with the whole of the Church’s life . . . her inner growth and correspondence with God’s plan depend essentially on catechesis” (no. 7). How are parents, the primary catechists of their children, recognized on Catechetical Sunday? Parents are truly the primary catechists of their children. They prepare the soil and plant the first seeds of faith. On Catechetical Sunday, we not only highlight the work of catechists in parishes and schools, but we also commend parents and guardians and encourage them to take seriously their role of making their Catholic households a place where faith is passed on to the next generation. We pray, today, that all of us may be responsible when it comes to living the faith for, in proper living, we truly teach the faith to others by our words and deeds. God bless you all.
PLEASE REMEMBER THEM Please pray for the priests and deacons who have served the Diocese of Gary so faithfully and whose anniversaries of death are this week:

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE While driving in Pennsylvania , a family caught up to an Amish carriage. The owner of the carriage obviously had a sense of humor, because attached to the back of the carriage was a hand-printed sign which stated, “Energy efficient vehicle:. Runs on oats and grass. Caution: Do not step in exhaust.”
THE RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS Our RCIA program begins again this fall on the first Tuesday of October (October 1st). We meet every Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Conference Room from October 1st until Easter. If you feel that you are being called to embrace the teachings of the Catholic Church, the RCIA program might help you to come to a decision. This Tuesday, September 17, and next Tuesday, September 24, we will have information sessions for those interested in the RCIA process. You need only attend one of the two evenings in September. The RCIA program is not only for non-Catholics. It is also for those who may have been baptized as Catholics but never completed their sacraments of initiation: Eucharist and/or Confirmation. If you were baptized Catholic and would like to finish your sacraments, come to the parish on one of those two Tuesdays in September and learn more about the RCIA program. We welcome you and look forward to seeing you there. Please call the parish office (836-8610) to let us know you plan to attend.

potentially huge. Go to GiveWith.Target.com to vote for St. Thomas More School, now through September 21st, or until Target

The Tradition Continues at St. Thomas More School! Each August, at the first All School Mass of the new school year, St. Thomas More School traditionally welcomes
all who are new to our school family. This year, we welcomed nearly 80 new
students in preschool through eighth grade to their new academic home, as well as
four new members of our school staff and Ms. Emily Hackett, our parish’s new
Director of Religious Education. In addition to our new student/teacher
welcome, each eighth grade student was given their “official” sweatshirt and
presented to the student body as the new leaders of our school. Fr. Mike spoke to these students about the responsibility that they now carried as mentors to the younger students and blessed the Class of 2014.

trimming shrubs and planting new flowers seasonally. Soon, the mums will pop with plentiful fall
colors, thanks to the watchful care of our Garden Club. New members are always needed to keep up the good work.
If you have some time to spare, your assistance would be welcomed; just come to the Barn on Wednesday or Friday

My Two Cents Thoughts on Living Stewardship
Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Luke often depicts Jesus welcoming sinners and sharing table fellowship with them. From the beginning of today’s Gospel
we are called to see ourselves belonging to the group of sinners who Jesus embraces and with whom he dines. The opening verse also challenges us as his disciples, to see whether we
would dine with those whom Jesus welcomes. The Pharisees and Scribes won’t, but would we?
