EntertainmentIt is indeed a pleasure to be helming the entertainment department once again and we are excited to put up some quality and entertaining shows for you dear members. This year we intend to make the events more member friendly. To begin with, we will be eliminating higher show day rates for members (will be imposed for events where food is part of the entry fee), restricting the number of guests at event, improving overall member experience, etc. My sub-committee and I will be happy to hear your ideas and suggestions to improve your experience at the club. Please feel free to contact us. Look forward to seeing you participate in large numbers at our events!

President’s ReportAt the outset, I would like to thank each Member for placing your faith in me, by trusting me with the responsibility of the Club and electing me as your President. It is indeed an honor and privilege. I also wish to thank you all for electing a very dynamic Managing Committee: a blend of the old and new, old timers and fresher’s all who are eager to give their best for the benefit of the Club, and for each of you. The list of the Committee Members and their Portfolios and Sub-Committees are printed in this Newsletter.I thank the outgoing committee, and recognise all their hard work done.It was heartening to see such a large turnout at the AGM, a sure sign that our Members take an active interest in our Club affairs.Msgnr. Jayanathan enthralled us with his address and great humour, which got him a standing ovation.

Our Election team did a fabulous job completing the counting in record time. A big thank you to all of them.At our first meeting we have taken a decision to be Member-centric and you will see this in all our programmes. The Committee Members have started planning in their various departments for activities of the Club.July is usually a month of handing over and of taking over, so no major programmes have been planned. However, all our regular programmes will continue to run.By the time you receive this, work should have started on the Library extension & iKidz Zone which was approved at the AGM. The Permanent Project Committee have been working hard on this project. The work order has been issued to the vendor and the work should start next week. We have given a deadline of August 10th to the vendor for iKidz Zone Play area in order to have it inaugurated by His Grace Archbishop Peter Machado. The new Bridge room should also be inaugurated soon.

The Committee has a plan to refurbish the Bar. A sponsor has been identified and negotiations are on in consultation with the PFC and PPC. Our first major programme will be our signature “Family Day” in August. I look forward to meeting all of you there. Till then; enjoy your Club!!!

Rev. Archbishop Peter Machado celebrated his feast day on the 29th of June 2019. Our office bearers visited the Archbishop and wished him on behalf of all the members of Catholic Club.

"Please don't give your children everything they ask for, at least not immediately. Let them learn the joy of anticipation.""Please don’t tell your children that Narayan Murthy & Sudha Murthy should be their role models; you are their role models." And my personal favourite : "The more you have, the more responsibilities you have. There is freedom in simplicity." A small glimpse of the pearls of wisdom that were overflowing on 7th June 2019 at the iBrowse session with Sudha Murthy! The epitome of simplicity, her writing is meant to teach, uplift and make one feel good. Boy, does it deliver! Having sold 29 lakh copies of her books in India and having had her 200th title published, she remains humble, practical and down to earth. iBrowsers, CC members & guests were treated to a delightful evening as Shrutee Khurana, Sudha Murthy's editor expertly moderated a session drawing out for us the essence of this extremely intelligent lady and exposing us to her thoughts, her writing process and various facets of her life. The evening had something for everyone, with Mrs. Murthy taking special care over her young readers, asking them their names and beaming at them when they came to get their books autographed or asked her a question. It was indeed the cherry on the top of a marvelous cake that was this past year at iBrowse!

Books and more..Our members have graciously come forward and donated books and other qualitative reading material to our Library. The following members deserve our sincere thanks and gratitude. Joseph Prabhu – 10 Books, Charmaine Hass Mehta – 128 Books, Carolynn D Mello – 17 Books, Marie - Alphonse Merandez - 12 Books

Waterproof Tote BagsWe still have a limited quantity of water proof Tote bags for you to carry your books to and from the library without getting them wet. These are a great buy! They are available for Rs.100/- each and for the green warriors – here is your chance to make a difference in our world.

It has been a blessing to have been part of iBrowse 2018-19! Thanks to MIC Jude Lobo for all the networking to get us some fabulous authors & the entire team for putting the events together: Samantha Pasha, Christine Rastogi, Wendy Gilbert Waheed, Rosalind Beck Vieyra & Ashu Lobo Desai! Thanks also to Gayatri Lobo for all the support!

ComicCon, held on the 2nd of June 2019 at 4pm at the Tulip Hall was an instant success as the memorable evening witnessed over 28 children dressed up in their favourite Disney character. It was quite overwhelming to see these young children creatively dressed up as various super heroes and each came and expressed why they like that particular super hero. It was wonderful to see children spending time learning dialogues, dressed up to their favourite cartoon characters, and even coming up with unique memorabilia that day. With lots of activities, theme songs, quizzes and the Marvel and Super Hero trivia, the evening had something for everyone. Early bird surprises were given out to the first 30 who bought their tickets. There were quizzes that centered around contribution to the community which made kids more aware of their talents and abilities and what they wanted to contribute in future. It was also a great spirit of bonding with each of the sub-committee members actively contributing towards the success of the event. Reshma D’Souza conducted the super hero

quiz and story session. Amar Mascarenhas shared the history of how some of the popular super heroes were created along with a background check of their founders. Elaine D’Souza conducted the super hero quiz and also assisted with the theme. John Quadros organized the super hero theme songs and also gave away prizes to the winners. Jude Lobo ensured that the programme ran smoothly and was the binder to ensure the children went home with great insights and had fun too! Most importantly, it was a great opportunity for the children and their parents to learn about the history of the creators of their favourite comic and cartoon characters. Parents too felt that they had gained considerable insights on their children’s future interests, talents and abilities. Those children who brought their passports could collect stickers and ensure it was another memorable event added to their list of cherished memories.

When it comes to Billiards & Snooker in Karnataka, the Catholic Club team is most feared, respected and touted as favourites at any of the tournaments. This time around it’s not the members who have wreaked havoc at the tournament but the staff (Markers) who have come out on top to sweep the awards at the recently concluded KSBA Markers tournament. Beating markers from all over Karnataka, Vinod takes gold in Snooker, Silver in Billiards & the highest break in Billiards, Wilson takes the gold in Billiards and Silver in Snooker, Richard reaches the semi-finals and wins the highest break in Snooker while Suresh reaches the Semi-Finals in both Billiards & Snooker. It is a proud moment for not just the billiards fraternity but the entire club itself to have our staff rake in such a big haul of prizes at the most significant tournament for markers conducted by KSBA. Congratulations to these four champions. Catholic Club appreciates & applauds you!
