Objectives

Editorial FlamboyantEditorial Flamboyant publishes picture books and board books for children aged 2–12 years old. We publish the best Spanish and international authors and illustrators and we place an emphasis on the quality of our editions.

Children

• To contribute towards their intellectual development and enrichment through texts and images that stimulate their imagination and artistic sensitivity.

• To cultivate empathy, enrich their perspectives and help them to have views of their own.

Teachers• To create books that help them to respond to children’s questions and

needs in the classroom in a fun and stimulating way.• To bring them stories that enable them to work on new trends in

education, such as emotional learning.

Parents• To publish books that they can read together as a family—an item around

Have you ever had your emotions all mixed up? That’s exactly what happened to the Colour Monster, who has to learn how to sort out happiness, sadness, anger, fear, and calm. With this marvellous picture book and its expressive illustrations, your child can easily identify the different emotions felt throughout the day.

The picture book has gone into print more than 20 times, with over 300,000 copies sold only in Spain, and it has been published in 16 languages.

The picture book The Colour Monster has become a bedside book in Spanish classrooms to work on emotional learning with boys and girls aged 3–5 years old.

It has been chosen by the NGO Think Equal, with the collaboration of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, to be included in the emotional learning programme that will be introduced in all schools throughout the world, which will have Sri Lanka as its pilot country.

Anna Llenas was born in Barcelona. She holds a degree in Advertising and Public Relations from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and took up studies in Graphic Design at the Escola

Superior de Disseny i Art Llotja. In the early days of her professional career in the advertising industry, she worked as an Art Director at Bassat Ogilvy, until one day, she decided to go her own way and work for herself. She specialised in Illustration at the EINA University School and created her own design projects, which are sold through different channels. She has done graphic work for different clients such as: La Vanguardia, Nestlé, or the Generalitat of Catalonia. At present, she is an art therapist. She also works with other authors and different publishing houses illustrating their stories. The Colour Monster was her first work as both author and illustrator.

Magali Le Huche was born in Paris in 1979. As a child, she wanted to be a singer and dancer. But in the end she decided to study drawing at the École Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de

Strasbourg. She has illustrated over forty children books, some of which she has written and illustrated. Her comic series Jean-Michel le caribou was adapted into a cartoon tv-series.

In Flamboyant, besides Elétrico 28, written by Davide Cali, she has published Berta Goodfaith is sad and The mermaids of Belpescão, which in 2006 won the prestigious French prize Prix Sorcières for the Best Picture Book.

Davide Cali is a prolific and multi-awarded Italian author. He currently lives in Switzerland and plays the electric guitar in a rock band. He has published more than ninety books, especially picture

books and comics, and has been translated into more than thirty languages. Sometimes he likes to sign his works with a pseudonym. Humour, rhythm and an incredible imagination are the hallmarks of their texts. He has received many awards and recognitions, including the Prix Baobab at the Salon du livre et de la presse jeunesse de Montreuil (Paris) or the Warsaw Fair Prize. It has been selected up to four times in the White Ravens lists.

Elétrico 28 is his first picture book published in Flamboyant.

Ferran Orta was born in Riba-roja d’Ebre. His training as an illustrator took place between Tarragona (Escola d’Art i

Disseny) and Barcelona (Escola de la Dona), where he took up studies in illustration, picture books and personal publishing. He has participated in several publishing projects, and he has also done both solo and group exhibitions. He is very much involved in the world of self-publishing, fanzines and prints. He currently works as an illustrator at Taller la Roda in Barcelona.

Gracia Iglesias is the author of poetic, narrative and art criticism texts—intended for an adult audience—published by different publishing houses in Spain, England, Mexico and Japan. Nevertheless, most of her literary works have been for children. She has been published in Spain, England, Mexico and Japan. Since 1999, she has

actively participated in programs to promote reading through creativity workshops and courses. She has been working as a professional actress and storyteller since 2008. She has been awarded in several poetry prizes.

Ximo Abadía has published books with more than a dozen Spanish and international publishing houses, and he regularly collaborates with magazines and newspapers. In 2016, he was chosen as one of the illustrators to be included in the Catálogo Iberoamericano de Ilustración, and one of his works was included in the annual White

Ravens Catalogue. In 2017, it was chosen for the Bologna Children’s Book Fair Award. For all that, if Ximo Abadía were to describe himself, he would say that he likes the soil, chaos, crayons, rocks, getting lost, his dog, graphite, small things, the vegetable garden, getting dirty and walking barefoot.

Luciano Lozano was born the same year that man travelled to the moon. Maybe that’s why, since childhood he has travelled a lot. Self-taught, he has been working in illustration since 2007, after completing a postgraduate course in Creative Illustration at the Eina school in Barcelona. He regularly collaborates with numerous publishers and

magazines. His work has received awards and recognitions nationally and internationally. He currently lives in Barcelona.

has combined illustration with mural painting. And she has published several works in magazines, in addition to posters and around thirty books.

She is the author and illustrator of several books. What Colour is a Kiss? was the Winner of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Culture Best Book Award 2015. Her works have been translated and published in Canada, the United States, France, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Korea, Taiwan, and China.

Virginia Mckenna, a member of the Order of the British Empire, founded the charitable

organisation Zoo Check—committed to animal protection—in 1984, together with her husband and eldest son. She did so after the premature death of Pole Pole—an elephant that she met while shooting the documentary An Elephant Called Slowly, and which the Government of Kenya had given to the London Zoo afterwards. Zoo Check eventually became the Born Free Foundation. Prior to her involvement with animal welfare and conservation, Virginia McKenna was an actress. She is best remembered for her role as Joy Adamson in the film Born Free (1966), where she starred together with her husband, the late Bill Travers. She lives in the Surrey Hills area (England).

Katie Cotton studied English at the University of Oxford and worked in Education before beginning to write and edit illustrated children’s books. She lives in London.

Stephen Walton, a self-taught and multi-awarded artist, works as a supervisor and

regular photographer at the Bury Art Museum in Manchester (England). His visión of art has evolved thanks to his experiences at this centre. He trained as a geographer at Manchester University.

Mamen Duch yoga master and founder of Yogui Kids (www.yoguikids.com), is a certified yoga teacher for children—by Shari Vilchez-Blatt of Karma Kids Yoga in New York—since 2008, and a certified yoga teacher for children with special needs by Craig Hanauer, after completing the Every Kid’s Yoga training

programme. She graduated in Performing Arts from the Institut del Teatre in 1991 and founded the company T de Teatre. She has worked as a film, theatre, and television actress. She also trains teachers, educators, and actors. In addition, she works on social action projects related to yoga and theatre. She is the author of the book Maya y el yoga.

Raúl Nieto Guridi studied Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Seville. Since then, he has worked in practically all fields of graphics, printing, design, and advertising. From 1995 onwards, he has specialised in graphic arts and the multimedia industry. Since 2010, his work has mainly focused on illustrations

in children’s publishing and posters for cultural campaigns involving theatre, dance, and puppets, as well as book covers for La Joie de Lire. He gives workshops on illustration and creativity. He also collaborates with several NGOs. His books have been translated into a dozen languages and he has received several international illustration awards, such as the Special Mention on the BRAW 2018.

Sofía Gil holds a degree in Psychology, a Master’s degree in Clinical and Health Psychology and a Master’s degree in General Medical Psychology from the University of Murcia.

She believes in accessible, modern, innovative and dynamic psychology adapted to the breakthroughs made at dizzying speed

in today’s society. This is why she founded MindUp Psicólogos (mindup-psicologos.com) in 2014.

Her dream: to contribute towards improving people’s emotional well-being, mental strength and quality of life, in order to bring out their very best!

Mercè Galí grew up amidst stories and books in her parents’ bookshop. She studied Illustration at La Llotja in Barcelona, as well as the speciality of Engraving in Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona. She is interested in the spontaneity of the stroke, the collage, photography, playing with chance and seeking the

ultimate expression in the simplest of things. She appreciates a sense of humour and tries to bring the imagination beyond the text to get a smile of complicity from the reader. She currently combines her work as an illustrator and teaching courses and workshops with her facet as an artist.
