Transcript of Catalogo Marina I. Salinas
Since the early 1500’s, Latin cultures have a tradition of pilgrimages to the promised ancestral land in the center of the Mexican Republic. Currently, im-migration begins with long walks of anxious and desperate people from South to the North. An invisible, a nameless, and a faceless migration asks the Virgin of Guadalupe to ensure a blessed and safe passage, devoid of deportation. Once in the United States, the “American Dream” becomes more tangible. It serves as a pulling force that gives them the courage and defiance to navigate deserts and rivers.
The border along Mexico and the United States is a physical and technological boundary in constant transition. These neighboring countries are separated, yet they share the issue of a shifting identity and culture, creating hybrid trans-gressors.This unleashes a metamorphosis of prohibited lives that merge and create an emotional residue that never legitimizes.
Unfortunately, this malleable society has traveled through channels of angered evolution. Thus, their diverse origins enrich our complex spaces in a global society. They recreate, interchange, and reinforce a cultural mestizaje through their hybridity. They contribute to the backbone of their surrogate country as innovative individuals with a profound desire to belong and to prosper.
