H o m e s t ayWhen most of our students first arrive in the UK, they choose to stay with one of our specially selected families, where a warm welcome is guaranteed. This offers a very good opportunity to learn about life in the UK and to practise English at the same time.

In a homestay family you can have your own room or share with a friend. For a supplementary fee, it is also possible to have a private bathroom.

St u d e nt Fl at s har eIf you would rather have a little more independence or prefer to cook for yourself, then a student flatshare could be the best choice for you. We have a selection of different properties so you could be sharing a 2 bedroom apartment or a large house with 6 other students.

You can choose between a single, twin or double room and you will share the kitchen, bathroom and other facilities with your housemates. Most student houses have a washing machine or you can use a nearby launderette.

Classroom activities focus on developing all four-language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking, incorporating vocabulary building and analysis and usage of grammar with an emphasis on communication. Students often work in pairs or groups to increase their English comprehension through interactive activities. Real-life topics such as work and society are explored each session providing opportunities for students to practice English in real-life situations both inside and outside the classroom. Homework varies from programme to programme.

more precise in their pronunciation, intonation and grammar. Teachers encourage students to develop an active, independent learning style. Content-based instruction is an important part of the course to develop knowledge and

vocabulary Programmes are characterized by: A commitment to quality in all aspects of language instruction An optimal student-teacher ratio An extensive resource collection of text books, tapes and videos and language games A wide variety of audio-visual and computer-based teaching aids A staff dedicated to professionalism and ethical conduct Use of the latest and best English language teaching techniques Each lesson is for 50 minutes Multi-media Lab High-tech computers with up to date ELT software allow students to study at their own speed.

During the work placements, students will be able to improve English language skills for professional communication and develop practical skills in international business, greatly enhancing career their prospects in an increasingly competitive global employment market.

Course Content

Language Course

To ensure that Interns gain the maximum benefit from their work placement, a minimum of 4 weeks study on any of our General English, Exam Preparation or Business English courses is required prior to commencing an Internship. The language component of the course will improve confidence and fluency in speaking, listening and understanding; indispensable for a successful Internship experience. Additional support is provided through our unique, English for the Work Place study pack with guidance and tutoring from our academic management team.

Work Placement

All placement candidates are required to have an English language level of at least Higher Intermediate (IELTS Bandwidth 5.0) before starting their placement. After completing a minimum of 4 weeks on one of our English language courses, students begin a full-time practicum with a host company or organization, typically working usual office hours, Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 17:00. Students are matched with a suitable host company or organization based on their industry preference, education and vocational experience. Among the placements options are; Sales & Marketing, Engineering, Travel & Tourism, PR, Advertising, Law, International Trade, Human Resources, Administration & Secretarial and Media. Requests can also be considered for other fields.

Duration

For European Union or European Economic Area students, internships can be taken from 2 up to 48 weeks preceded by a minimum of a 4 week English language course. For students from outside the European Union or the European Economic Area, Internships can also be taken from 2 to 48 weeks but the study and Internship periods must be of equal length or the study period longer than the internship (1 week Internship = 1 week or more language course)

Assessment and Mentoring

Throughout the work placement a mentor from Professionals UK will keep in touch with Interns and will be able to provide support and guidance regarding the work place if required.

The school, together with Professionals UK, will monitor the Intern’s progress throughout the placement with employers carrying out periodic assessments which make up part of the final course report.

Upon successful completion of the work experience, as well as the Bloomsbury International Work Experience Certificate and course report, Interns may wish to receive a certificate issued by the University of Cambridge International Examinations syndicate (additional fee required).

Visas

- 18 -

Page 30: Catalogo Bloomsbury

Non-EU students will also be required to apply for a student entry clearance visa with work authorization and to obtain permission to work if their language course is for less than 6 months. Please contact the school directly for further information or go to http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk An English Embassy or Consulate overseas will also be able to provide information and assistance.

Application

Students should submit a CV, Cover Letter and Course Application form at least 4 weeks prior to their desired course start date to allow for application administration and the identification of a suitable work placement. When applying, the length of time needed to reach the higher intermediate level of English required for work placements should be taken into consideration. An approximate guideline would be 10 to 12 weeks per level.

Please note that once a placement has been arranged by Professionals UK, questions relating to this should be directed to Professionals UK and not Bloomsbury International.

Conditions

When the student is approaching the Internship start date, they will be sent for an interview with companies that have expressed an interest in their CV. If the match is suitable we will confirm this with the student and the company and inform them when to start, how to dress, who to meet etc. If the match is not suitable we will arrange for another interview as soon as possible.

The student can select the field but not the company or job and although highly unlikely that the situation should occur, a maximum of three interviews are provide (further interviews may be provided at an additional cost)

In exceptional circumstances and for acceptable reasons, if the student, with justification, is particularly unhappy about the placement, we may seek an alternative.

For each session, the Activities/Events Coordinators organize cultural and recreational pursuits, which are fun, entertaining and reflect the characteristics of the area.

General

Various cultural and recreational activities are organized on a frequent basis with the participation of school staff. The number of participants may be limited in some activities and students should sign up early. Students are responsible for any extra fees.

School Parties and Events The school organizes regular parties and all-school events with a variety of themes throughout the year.

Sports The school organizes a sports day every week during the summer months. This takes place in Regents Park and is free of charge.

Cultural Activities A midweek cultural visit (e.g. theatre, museum or gallery) is organized every week.

Pub Night This is a regular themed night for Students and teachers to meet up at a variety of local pubs every Friday evening.

Excursions There are excursions to places of interest every weekend (e.g. Bath, Canterbury, Oxford). The prices vary from £20 to £35. See up-to-date calendars at http://www.bloomsbury-international.com/en/events.html

VISAS

- 31 -

The visa national list is available on the Home Office web site at www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk UKvisas at www.ukvisas.gov.uk and is also available in the UKCOSA Manual and its online version, Onyx www.ukcosa.org.uk. Additions to the list are notified to UKCOSA members through UKCOSA Briefings.

Students who are not ‘visa nationals ’can choose whether to apply for entry clearance, or not. They may wish to consider this if they are coming on a course lasting six months or less, they are applying as a prospective student, or they are bringing their wife, husband or children with them. The advantages of applying for this are that clearance and arrival procedures in the UK may be faster and less problematic, and if they are refused entry, students can appeal against the refusal and remain in the UK while the appeal is pending

3. Registration Fee: A £50 registration fee is charged for any new enrolment. Students wishing to re‐enrol within one year of the start date of their first course will not be charged the registration fee again.

4. Cancellations: Any cancellations must be received in writing at least two weeks before the start date. Fees paid, less the non‐ refundable deposit(s), will be returned to you. You may commute your deposits to another course within one year of the cancellation date. There will be no refunds for cancellations received less than 14 days before the course begins.

5. Cancellation due to a visa application refusal: We require notice of two weeks prior to the course start date followed by official proof in the form of original documentation from the British authorities, without which, any refunds will not be possible. If you cancel a booking because of a visa refusal with more than two week’s notice, we will refund the fees as long as they have been paid in full, less the £25 Administration fee. If a visa is refused without payment being received in full then the £150 deposit will not be refunded.

6. Refunds: There are no refunds of tuition fees after arrival or compensation for missed lessons in any circumstances once your course has started, except in genuine cases of life or death urgency, (e.g. the sudden death of a member of your immediate family) In all cases you will be asked for proof. In the event of a refund being granted it will only be made at the original end date of the course to the person or agency that paid the school for the course.

7. Insurance: Because school fees are not refundable or transferable you are strongly advised to take out comprehensive insurance which covers reimbursement of your fees. Please contact the school for details/premiums and for our recommended partners who specialize in student travel insurance. The insurance should also covers visits to the GP, and general health problems for non EU students.

8. Administration Charge: Once a student has started his/her course any changes to the course or accommodation have an Administration charge of £25 which must be paid before the change is processed. Any holiday requests made outside the two weeks’ notice period will also incur the £25 administration charge.

9. Accommodation: All efforts will be made to meet your accommodation requests. The school reserves the right, however, to place you in an alternative type to the same standard paid for. Requests to change or cancel accommodation must be received with two week’s notice in writing. For changes to your accommodation the Administration charge of £25 will apply in addition to the difference in fees for the new accommodation. If you cancel your accommodation you will be refunded the outstanding fees less the amount for two weeks’ accommodation and the £25 Administration charge.

10. Upon arrival, an appropriate ID will be required including visa page if applicable and a copy taken for our records. All information will be stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

11. Holidays: There are no fee reductions for public holidays or compensation for missed lessons. You are allowed a holiday period in accordance with your course duration. A maximum of 4 weeks may be taken at any one time. Two weeks’ notice must be given in writing for holiday requests otherwise an Administration charge of £25 will be made.

12. Absence: Students are expected to attend all their lessons. The school will try to contact students who are absent for 3 days or more. If the school is unable to get a response from the student after two attempts and the student is still absent we have an obligation to inform the Home office.

13. Liability: It is a basic stipulation of the agreement between the student and Bloomsbury International (UK) Ltd or its representatives that neither the School nor its representatives are liable to the student in cases where the school is unable to fulfill any services to which they are contractually bound because of strikes or other reasons that are beyond their control. This includes traffic congestion and public transport delays.

14. Bloomsbury International (UK) Ltd reserves the right to close classes and courses that are poorly attended or undersubscribed and offer students alternative courses/schedules to an equivalent value.

15. Bloomsbury International (UK) Ltd reserves the right to change published course and accommodation information, including fees.

16. Bloomsbury International (UK) Ltd accepts no responsibility or liability for personal accident or loss or damage of property. You are strongly advised to take out personal insurance.
