Exceptional torque strength is developed through the simultane-ous engagement of opposingflanks of the dovetail thread. Thethread flanks provide a positivetorque stop, which virtually elimi-nates pin end ID restrictionscaused by over-torque.

Integral design eliminates con-cerns associated with coupledconnections for mill-end leaks,damaging during buck-on andcoupling material sourcing andtraceability.

100% compression rating is provided by the dovetail threads.

Ideal for highly deviated,extended reach, and other appli-cations demanding superior rota-tion-while-bending capability. Thedovetail Wedge Thread™ providesexcellent performance in combinedtorsion, bending, and tension orcompression.

Pin machined on non-upset end.The one-end-upset (OEU) pipe,with the box machined on anupset, reduces costs of the overallstring, permits pup joints to bemanufactured on non-upset pipeand eliminates need for couplingstock and buck-on.

Corrosion protection continuityis provided by the optional CB feature. The inert CB® ring createsthe corrosion resistant bridgebetween pin and box plastic coating without impairing overallconnection performance. The CBring is recessed, protecting it fromwireline and flow stream damage.

High tension and bendingstrengths are developed using arun-out, dovetail thread machinedon non-upset pin end and upsetbox end pipe. The dovetail threadwith its double reverse flanksresists the tendency for radial disengagement of the partial depththreads.

100% pipe body collapse ratingis created with the lubricant seal ofthe dovetail threads. The threadsalso provide a secondary internalpressure seal rated at 100% of thepipe body.

Stress distribution and low stresslevels make the Hydril 553 suitablefor sour service. Hydril 553 is alsorecommended for use on 9% and13% chromium steels.

100% internal pressure ratedmetal-to-metal seal maintains gas-sealing capability under high axialand bending loads. The shallowangle run-out chamfer on the pin IDof heavier weights and the nosedand bored ID on the pin of lighterweights promote uniform stressunder the seal around the full circumference of the connection.

Flow stream continuity is main-tained with the recess-free stream-lined ID configuration. The erosion-corrosion associated with a turbu-lent flow stream is minimized.

Hydril 553 is interchangeablewith the Hydril 503™, 533™ and563™ connections. DamagedHydril 553 connections can berecut to the non-upset threadedand coupled Hydril 563 retaining interchangeability.
