This project created by Achille Bonito Oliva sets out to analyze all the historical Avant-garde movements, starting with the concept of time, with a brilliant introduction by Massimo Cacciari. Architecture themes

Authorative Italian and Brazilian researchers are still seeking the answer to the motivationbehind the decision to build a new capital. From Project to City deals with the designing andbuilding of Brasilia, its architecture and its spaces. From Lucio Costa’s Plano piloto in 1957, tothe exceptional events that marked the 40 weeks’ work to the very brief time it took to actuallybuild the city. The documents on this stage are the worksite job sheets, contemporary photosof the architecture under construction, the film “Brasilia, cidade livre” made 1956-57 on theworkers’ city, personal reminiscences and sketches by Oscar Niemeyer on this intensiveperiod of teamwork and personal relationships.

The 2010 Shanghai Universal Expo (1 May - 31 October) is the first ever to take the themeof city life. The Italian pavilion has been a runaway success, drawing incredible crowdswith 40,000 visitors a day and earning Italy a place among the top five most visitedpavilions. This is the story behind Giampaolo Imbrighi‘s project and the City of Manexhibition. The Italian lifestyle concept curated by Davide Rampello and staged byGiancarlo Basili. But above all the book symbolises Italy’s success in establishing adialogue with China and the visitors to the Expo by displaying the best of the country’sheritage in a uniquely creative synthesis (Beniamo Quintieri).

Part of the earnings from this book will be donated to the RavaFoundation to help disadvantaged children in Italy and around theworld. For the past twenty years Stefano Guindani’s ruling passionhas been photography in all its guises. In this latest work heexplores a particularly difficult social theme: children in Haiti.In no other country in the western hemisphere do children runsuch a high risk of death while still in their infancy as those born in Haiti. Thousands of Haitian children fight for survival on a dailybasis. In rural areas they have no access to the most basic of publicservices, often having to walk miles to get health care or even find a

water supply. But despite being one of the poorest countries in theworld, where 70% of the population is unemployed, talent andenergy abound, as the Rava Foundation has discovered. Registeredcharity Rava works to promote awareness, sponsorship for childrenand voluntary work, as well as running an orphanage, schools,a paediatric hospital and a rehabilitation centre for handicappedchildren on the island. Guidani’s very moving shots capture a worldof hope without any bathetic trace of pity or commiseration forchildren who can still trust in the future and, despite all, view theirworld with eternal optimism.
