THE HISTORY OF UNIOR BEGAN IN 1919Today UNIOR Joint Stock Company employs about 2500 workers within its five divisions: forged parts, hand tools, machine tools, sinter and activities in tourism. Unior is a manufacturer of top quality forged and sintered parts for the automobile industry (VW, Audi, BMW, Renault, Ford, Volvo, Peugeot …) and hand tools, which are designed for long term professional use. Transmission bracket along with the rear transmission, threaded on it, must be parallel to the rear gear, which is the basis for smooth running of the chain and for a fast, efficient shifting.

If the bicycle falls on the right side, damage to the rear transmission and deformations of the transmission bracket often occur. This causes the loss of the transmission bracket parallelism, which hinders proper functioning of gears.

When performing repair work, first the rear wheel must be centered because an alligned rear wheel is the basis for the adjustment of the transmission bracket.

The tool is easy to use and very precise. It is used to check the parallelism between the trans-mission bracket and the wheel, and to align the bracket if the parallelism is not reached.

How to use the tool:

Mount the control to the transmission bracket. Move the slider along with the measuring gauge towards the wheel rim and position it in such a way that the gauge only lightly touches the wheel rim. Then fix the measuring gauge by tightening the screw on the top of the slider. Perform the check by moving the bracket control to different positions on the wheel rim. If the transmission bracket is parallel to the wheel, the measuring gauge touches the wheel rim lightly on all positions. If the stick moves away from the rim or comes extremely close to it, the bracket has to be aligned. And since our bracket control is strong, the transmission brack-et may be aligned by means of the fixed control. Repeat the procedure until the measuring gauge lightly touches the whole rim and then parallelism is achieved again.

Faultless running of the front wheel and reliable steering depend on the steering bearing that connects the forks with the frame of the bicycle. When bearings start to falter due to wear and tear, we repair the parallel alignment of the steering tube surface. By edging the steering tube, we achieve the tube being optimally adjusted to the steering bearing cup.

The special advantage of the Unior edging machine is the option of fast uncoupling and regu-lation. The sharpened centring cone is fitted on the bearing that enables smooth operation of the tool. All the cutting surfaces are characterised by top-level quality.

When the pipe on new fork is longer than necessary, it needs to be shortened to the adequate length. The cutting rail enables an even and precise cut of fork pipe without thread – of di-mensions 1” and 1 1/8” – while the mounted measuring gauge enables a fast and precise deter-mination of fork pipe length desired after the cut.

Bind the fork into the cutting rail and set the desired length by means of the measuring gauge. The cut must be positioned exactly on the opening of the rail itself. Lightly tighten the screw.

Install the cutting rail along with the fixed fork to the vice on the working bench. Saw the fork by means of a saw (prod. 750) through the opening in the rail. The housing, made in a compact and precise way, does not leave scratches on the fork pipe.

When the tube of the new forks is longer than is necessary, we cut it to size. The cutting guide ensures a straight and accurate cut on the fork tube without a thread – the dimensions being 1” and 1 1/8”.

Clamp the forks into the cutting guide. Move the guide so that its opening is above the marked part of the tube and gently tighten the bolt. Clamp the cutting guide together with the se-cured forks into a vice on the work table. Saw the forks using a saw (product no. 750) through the notch in the guide. Compactly and precisely manufactured housing does not leave scratch marks on the fork tube.

New cartridge bottom bracket tools are used for installation and removal of the cartridge bottom brackets listed below. It is composed of wrench, product no. 1671.1, screw with nut and handle.

Advantage: When we want to remove bottom bracket, it is necessary to put the wrench into bottom bracket nut. With the screw it is fixed it in axle. It prevents the wrench to from slipping and damaging the bottom bracket nut. Work is made easy by the 350 mm long handle with two-component ergonomic sleeve. The same procedure is used for installation.

Additional part on the screw is 24mm AF and is for use with a 24 mm wrench, and for torque checking with torque wrench.

The handle can be taken down if necessary.

For the repair and cutting of threads in the frame of the drive bearing, use the special thread cutter. It is intended especially for wheels of Italian origin that have a right-hand thread on both sides of the drive bearing (36 mm x 24 tpi), which means that unwinding on both sides is in the counter clockwise direction. The wrench is used for unscrewing and tightening of front sprocket nuts. The tightening starts with the broader part, and when the nut is sufficiently tightened, it finishes with the narrower part which is bent in order to enable a better power transfer during the final tightening of the nut. When unscrewing the nut, the wrench is used in the reverse order.

The dimension of the hexagonal wrench opening is SW10. It enables unscrewing and tighten-ing of nuts of this dimension, while at the same time it can be used to hang the wrench.

The sprocket wear indicator is used to determine the condition rear sprock-ets. It can be used to check 12 to 21 tooth sprockets.

Procedure: The chain is put on the sprocket and the tool placed with its round end between two teeth on the upper sprocket side. The last chain link is moved away from the sprocket and a force of 100 N or 10 kg is applied to the tool in the direction of sprocket rotation.

Now the last chain link is moved towards the sprocket. If it skips easily to the cog the sprocket is in a good condition and will function flawlessly even with a new chain. However, if the last chain link gets stuck on the tip of the neighbouring tooth or if we have to force it to skip on the cog, the sprocket is worn out and should be replaced. In case the chain falls off the clog when applying force, the sprocket is heavily worn out and a replacement is overdue.

The wrench is the basic working tool for cyclists extended tours. To change broken nipples on the right side of the rear wheel, the nuts have to be loosened firstly. The wrench is fitted onto the freewheel nuts and then the pedal is turned. A force of 40 Nm is transmitted by the chain, thus enabling the loosening of the nuts and assuring assembly and disassembly of the free-wheel and facilitating the exchanging the nipples. The nuts are fitted by turning the wheel backwards by hand.

The true checking tool is used to check the axle symmetry between the hub and the wheel rim. Firstly the appropriate distance between the slides is set according to the wheel size. The gauge centre is placed on the hub and the rollers are rested against the rim. The rest is secured with a screw and then other points on the rim are checked to see if the rim is concentric with the hub. If the wheel is not concentric, it needs to be trued up.

A special procedure for the manufacture of a combination wrench 1. Cutting: on a machine, flat steel is cut into required shapes; the accuracy of the cut ensures minimal consumption of quality material.

2. Forging: through forging procedures performed on the renowned LASCO machines, the toughness of combined wrenches is enhanced. By the employment of suitable forging tech-niques we are able to maintain the appropriate fibre orientation (the same as in the rolled blanks), which is of key importance in products exposed to heavy, dynamic loads (e.g. Unior wrenches).

3. Trimming: the removal of flash (waste material squirting out of the thin seams between the die covers under the force of the forging hammer) is carried out by a special trimming machine; the weight of the trimmings to be removed in order for the forging to acquire the desired shape always has to be lesser than the weight of the forged part.

4. Perforation: following the forging and trimming phases, perforations are made in the workpiece by punching or cutting. This procedure can be carried out either on hot or cold workpieces.

5. Burring and Grinding: with the help of mechanical and chemical substances, the rough edges on the forgings are removed by burring machines and subsequently the wrenches are passed over grinding machines to be contoured. The surface and the edges of the wrench are thus smoothed and rounded.

6. Machine Marking and Bending: in conformity with Set standards, each product is im-pressed with its appropriate mark; next, the ring of the wrench is offset as per relative require-ments.

7. Broaching: in broaching, material is removed in a single pass by a successive action of a number of cutting blades incorporated in a broach. In the production of Unior wrenches, the internal teeth of the ring are made using a MAE broaching machine.

8. Tempering: tempering by heating and cooling is designed to improve the grain flow of the steel and thereby increase the toughness of the wrench at the desired points; this heat treatment process grants the Unior wrenches a long lifespan and resistance to high loads and pressure.

9. Sanding and polishing: various abrasive substances are blasted onto the surface of the wrenches by means of compressed air. The abrasives burr the surface, while at the same time imparting to it a certain asperity, important for the subsequent application of a suitable gal-vanic (protective) coating. In certain variants, the head surfaces of the wrench are polished to present a pleasant final appearance.

10. Chrome plating wrenches are coated with a thin, solid layer of chrome dioxide to protect them from corrosion, wear and scratches; metal chrome is used in the alloying of steel and metal plate, while also giving the wrench an attractively shiny visual aspect.

The advantage of the Ibex wrench is that, because of its special form, it drives on three faces of the fas-tener, generating greater power. The screwdrivers are made of chrome-vanadium-molybdenum steel and are additionally chrome or nickel plated. The superior quality of materials used in the Unior line of screwdriv-ers is complemented by ergonomically designed handles to provide an excellent hold.

With its combination of soft and hard surfaces, the special, three-component handle – a Unior patent – ensures comfort and efficient performance with minimum strain on the wrist while working. The soft material ensures maximum gripe even when oily.

Along with the varied consistency of the plastic handle practically eliminating the danger of the screwdriver slipping in the hand, the improved grip also ensures greater torque. This can also be achieved by inserting a rod in the perforation added with this purpose to all handles functioning also as a hanging hole for handier storage.

100% pull-out drawers enable a good overview and easy access to tools. They are 75 mm or 155 mm high, with a load capacity up to 40 kg.Synthetic covering offers damage protec-tion for the drawer, as it prevents tools from sliding during opening and closing of the drawer.

The 400 mm ball-bearing slides are of higher quality, compared to standard models. This means load

capacity increased by 10%, while the drawer still runs smoothly and almost

inaudibly. Drawers can be taken out easily – with a simple push of the

plastic safety buttons.

The lock is installed on the side wall, just under the handle. Thus the key cannot be damaged and due to its

flexibility does not cause any obstruc-tions when handling the carriage.

The new EuroPLUS carriage can be recog-nized immediately by the new design. The carriages are designed and produced accord-ing to the 21st century design guidelines, which demand clear lines and soft edges.

The main advantages are the dimensions and construction of carriage. The new design keeps all the parts of the carriage within its outside edges. This means that there are no parts that step out, and can not be damaged or cause injury. In the line with this concept the central locking mechanism is positioned so that the key cannot be broken acciden-tally. The next important improved feature is the drawers. The edges are protected with special protective rubber for higher safety and longer life. The drawer runners are new, which enabled us to increase load capacity of drawers. The load capacity is higher by ten percent, compared to standard models.

The EuroPLUS has four special ANTI-SHOCK rubber protections on the carriage corners. These will enable you to move the carriage around the workshop without the worry of damaging either the carriage or any other object. The ANTI-SHOCK rubber will protect your EuroPLUS carriage and any other frag-ile article in the workshop.

In this professional line of carriages we have also developed a special retractable multi-purpose shelf. Now you can simply pull out the shelf, and use it to support any kind of things like documents, manuals, and even

your laptop computer. When you do not need it anymore, just push it back to the body of the carriage and again you have a compact car-riage. This line has a lot of detailed and useful features, which might be small but are also important. For instance, the work surface is now bigger by twenty percent. The work sur-face is also recessed by 10 mm so that small parts do not accidentally roll of the carriage. There are also various recesses for holding bottles, oil cans. The perforated sheet metal with ten hooks for hanging different type of hand tools is also new.

This work bench is ideal for bicycle repair shops, as it fits perfectly with working surroundings and makes it possible to perform different work-ing operations at the same time. It is perfect for the safe storage of tools. The safety and durability of the work bench enables carrying out a working operation with less physical effort.

The lock is positioned on the front side of the bench, just under the work plate, which protects the inserted key and the lock from accidental damage

The inner side of the door is fitted with a perforated steel plate.

With enclosed multi-purpose hooks and lugs it can be used for hanging

different objects.

The doors are installed on piano hinges and with its wide 180 degree angle offer the user great overview

and accessibility.

Cabinet edges are protected with special plastic protectors which protect the

The tool boxes are made from high quality sheet steel and additionally strengthened with 1.25 mm thick connectors.

Compartments are made of one piece sheet steel, aesthetically and functionally designed and reinforced at the top by a specially designed edge. Their inside is totally smooth with no edges that could injure the user.

Lacquer coated to enable a firm grip and resist rusting. Ecologically lacquered with cadmium and lead free colour for double protection.
