STACO® Pressure Welded Grates (SP Grating)
More than 50 years ago, STACO®
was the first manufacturer tostart making pressure weldedgrates within the then EEC.
From the very beginning, we have considered product development to be of great importance. And we have been successful, since a number of our deve-lopments have become an important partof modern grating manufacture, today. This many years’ experience ensuresquality, safety, competence, and an overall service for our customers. This is what makes the difference!
When your responsibility is the safety of people, you canrely on STACO® SP Grating.
1. More than 780 pressure welds perm2 (in case of standard mesh 3032) and perfected processing make STACO®
SP Grating a “one-piece construction”.These grates are high-quality safetycomponents offering permanent stabilityalso under extreme loading conditionsand environmental influences.
2. Our overall quality assurance conceptalso includes the organization in safety-relevant fields such as the selection ofstarting materials, manufacturing pro-cesses, design, and planning.

The bearing bars serve for load transmission and thus should always belocated on a sturdy supporting structure.
The transverse bars are used to con-nect the bearing bars with each otherand contribute to load distribution.
The mesh width defines the clearancebetween the bars.
The mesh pitch (manufacturing dimension) is the spacing between thebar centers.
STACO® SP Grating: Manufacturing and Designs
Design Principle
The name “SP Grating” was introducedby STACO® more than 50 years ago, andstill today is an internationally approveddesignation for the pressure welded grating design of extreme stability.During pressure welding, the twistedtransverse bars are fully welded to thebearing bars under high pressure atevery junction point. The result is a “one-piece construction” with a higherloadability and stability than other typesof grating. STACO® SP Grating is dis-tinguishing itself by its extreme durabilityand torsional rigidity. The application of this type of grating permits the totalstatical loading of structural units to beincreased.
STACO® Stainless Steel Grates
STACO® Stainless Steel Grates are par-ticularly corrosion-resistant to air, waterand aggressive substances. The materialsatisfies the hygienic requirements as set forth for use in the food processingindustries.(For manufacturing program see pages8/ 9 and 22/23.)

STACO® Offshore Grates
With one or two round bars welded in position between the bearing bars,STACO® Offshore Grates prevent a ball of 15 mm dia. or other objects ofcorresponding size from falling throughthe grating. This satisfies particularsafety regulations such as by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, forinstance. (For manufacturing programsee pages 8/9.)
STACO® Serrated Non-slip Grates
Snow, ice, oil, fat, moisture or other critical conditions at ascending or des-cending catwalks or surfaces increase the danger of skidding. In such casesSTACO® Serrated Grates and treads withtheir non-slip notches offer a very goodgrip. STACO® SP Serrated Grating ismanufactured in different designs.(For manufacturing program see pages 8/9.)
STACO® Safety Mesh Grating
With a safety profile welded to the under-side, STACO® SP 30 x 32 (AA) 8 x 8 pre-vents an 8 mm ball from falling throughthe grating as called for by the Spanishsafety regulation Real Decreto 486/1997.(For manufacturing program see pages 8/9.)

STACO® Symmetric Grating
In case of identical grating dimensions, end panels of the same size will alwaysbe manufactured by the STACO®
Symmetric method.
ADVANTAGE 1:An excellent overall impression is obtai-ned in case of stages, platforms and catwalks, since the transverse bars willalways be in exact alignment, now.
ADVANTAGE 2:Automatic Fitting Mesh
With the new method, the fully-auto-matic manufacture of fitting grates inindividual widths of 430 mm to 1000 mmis possible for the first time. We guaranteethat by insertion of a fitting mesh theSTACO® Symmetric Grates will always be terminated by a full bearing bar meshon both sides.
Accordingly, manual welding of a finalbearing bar (“third side”) is no longernecessary. These grates will now form a homogeneous unit wherein all bearingsbars are pressure welded by a resistancewelding method at all junction points toform a “one-piece construction”.
Transversebars alwaysin exact alignment.
Transverse bars in exact alignment in case of grates of the same length.
One-piece construction: STACO ® Symmetric Grates of individual widths are always terminated by a full bearing bar mesh width.

ADVANTAGE3Identical final panel meshes
provided automatically.
ADVANTAGE1
7
Optimal assembly by means of welding or setting bolts at all of the four corners.
2)For the event that the distribution of transverse bars as a result of the mesh provides too small anassembly space, we are in a positionto guarantee minimum spacings upto the first transverse bar.
1)The bearing bars in the last mesh are normally provided in full mesh width.
Bearing bar direction
This STACO® assembly convenience is achieved by two methods:
ADVANTAGE2Automatic fitting mesh for
individual grate widths.
ADVANTAGE3:With the new STACO® Symmetric manu-facturing process we are in a position toguarantee a minimum end panel size inseries production. The size of end panelmeshes may be determined so thatfastenings such as welding or settingbolts may be attached in the first meshwithout any problems.
In case of small production runs requiring direct assembly via the cornermeshes, this advantage will be of decisive importance for fast and propergrating assembly.
STACO ® Symmetric –a STACO ® innovation.

This range should not be exceeded to ensure a safe passage. The elastic deflection under loading conditions is not more than 1/200 of the span,in any case 4 mm with a single traffic load of 150 daN referred to a loading area of 200 x 200 mm.
Within this restriction the grating is still capable of taking up a single traffic load of 150 daN in the most unfavourable position of a loading area of 200 x 200 mm in case of a maximum deflection of 1/200 of the span (see AGI).
If in case of a distributed live load of 500 daN/m2 the maximum deflection is to be 4 mm, STACO® recommends to account for a span limitation according to this line.
In case of a distributed live load of 500 daN/m2, the maximum deflection at this limitation will be 1/200 of the span.

STACO® Press Grates (PR Grating)
Also in the press grating market, weintend to share our experience of morethan 50 years as well as our knowhowwith our customers. Let us know yourspecific requirements! We will do our bestto give you an unobjectionable product andoffer you an optimal service.
STACO® Press Grates are modern safetycomponents for stages, platforms, ramps, stairways, covers, racks and shelves, separating and protective walls, fences, etc. in many fields in the construction ofindustrial plants, objects and administra-tion buildings.
STACO® PR Grating
also available in
stainless steel
(see pages 22 /23)

STACO® PR Safety Mesh Grating
For safety reasons, a transverse barspacing of approx. 10 mm clear width isrecommended for areas with heavy pe-destrian traffic. The narrow meshing alsocontributes to an attractive and uniformappearance.
Design Principle
The transverse bars are pressed into theconically recessed bearing bars underpressure. As a result of the high pressureapplied (“cold welding”), the STACO®
PR Grating features high stability and is offering two major benefits:
1. The grating is well suited for any further processing such as sawing.
2. Disturbing clattering or rattling noises are avoided permanently.
Edge Binding
In general, STACO® PR Grating is providedwith a T-profile or a steel flat as edge binding. The grating may also be providedwith other special bindings such as binders set on edge, stilts, angle irons,Z-profiles, and the like as a function of the specific application involved (see alsopage 32).
STACO® Serrated Non-slip Grates
STACO® Grates are of highly nonskid design. Snow, ice, oil, fat, moisture orother critical conditions at ascending ordescending catwalks or surfaces increasethe danger of skidding. In such casesSTACO® PR Serrated Grates and treadswith their non-slip notches offer a verygood protection against accidents.STACO® PR Serrated Grating is manu-factured in different designs (see alsopage 30).
STACO® Serrated Grating is BIA tested!
STACO® Full Grates
STACO® Full Grates, generally also called carton grates, are manufactured by pressing of bearing bars and trans-verse bars of identical height and identical thickness. Steel, special steeland aluminium may be used for this
manufacturing method. Accordingly, attractive structural elements for building fronts, suspended ceilings, partition walls, and many other pur-poses are available for architecturalpurposes in particular.

The loading data of STACO® PR Grating have been approved by the TüV (Association fortechnical inspection).Certificate No. R30049
The loading data of STACO® PR Grating are in compliance with RAL-GZ 638
This range should not be exceeded to ensure a safe passage. The elastic deflection under loading conditions is not more than 1/200 of the span,in any case ≤ 4 mm with a single traffic load of 150 daN referred to a loading area of 200 x 200 mm.
Legend:Fv = Loading data for uniformly distributed loads (Fv), in daN/m2

STACO® Stainless Steel Grates
For more than 40 years, STACO®
have been manufacturinggrating made of stainless steel.Users from the fields of industry, trade, handicraft, municipalities, medicine and sanitary instal-lations as well as architecturerely on the high quality andeconomics of our stainless steelproducts.
Optimal Surface Properties
STACO® Stainless Steel Grates do notrequire any additional corrosion pro-tection as is the case with conventionalsteel grates, for instance, which mostlyare hot galvanized by full immersion in a galvanizing bath.
The chromium contents of at least10.5% in stainless steel form a colour-less and transparent oxide layer on thesurface. This protective layer is highlycorrosion-resistant. It is for this reasonthat STACO® Stainless Steel Grates arebeing used whenever stringent require-ments need to be satisfied in regard tocorrosion protection and hygienics.
All tarnish normally generated on the surface during welding is removed bya special pickling process. STACO®
Stainless Steel Grates thus also con-tribute substantially to a first-classappearance of your structures.
STACO® Stainless Steel Grates are primarily manufactured in the following grades of material:

STACO® Fastening Material for Grating
Fastening for delivery ex stock
STACO® offers a line of fastenings forevery type of grating and all supportingstructures. The fastenings are made ofsteel according to DIN 17 100 and hot-galvanized according to DIN EN ISO 1461or stainless steel 1.4301 and/or 1.4571.(Exception: Hook bolts will be electro-galvanized according to DIN 50 961.)
The safety clamps are provided with aspecial clasp of which the retaining strapsare additionally attached to the transversebars and secured in position thereon. Thebottom part of safety clamps can be supplied with finger hole, at option. Thisdesign is provided with a locking deviceadditionally securing the clamp againstslipping in bearing bar direction.
Article No.: 5Welding Bolt Fastenings
As a rule, fastenings of this type consist of an electro-galvanized threaded bolt tobe welded to the supporting structure bymeans of a bolt welder (according to DIN32 500) specifically developed for thispurpose. Further fastening elements arehexagon nuts and washers and/or clasps.
Fastening Accessories
Double clamps are primarily used for theconnection of grates. They prevent dis-placement of the grates in longitudinal and transverse direction and avoid trippingedges.
STACO ® fastening systems are supplied with washer or clasp at option. In order to avoid corrosion, the recess of washers is providedwith a water drain hole. Surfaceknobs contribute to a still safer grip.
Hook bolts with short hook serve forfastening of grates in case of angular profiles and/or vertical supports withoutbottom flange. (Please indicate the profiledimension at the time of order.) Electro-galvanized according to DIN 50 961.
A threaded bolt is forced into the sup-porting structure by means of a bolt driving tool resulting in some sort of coldwelding. With an upper part spe-cificallydeveloped for this type of bolts and calledholding flange the grate will be secured on the supporting structure. Please contact us for ammunition, equipment etc.

STACO® Special Designs
Upend Binding/ Toe Plate
Safety binding welded to the bearing barends and projecting beyond the grating.Prevents objects from falling down orskidding.
Tread Upend Binding
A flat iron will be welded to the rear edgeof tread in full length, in order to preventobjects from falling down or skidding between treads.
Deep Binding
In cases, for instance, requiring level differences to be compensated. Or whensubstances, liquids etc. should be allowedto drain to underneath the grates.
Tread Strips
Tread strips such as square strips, per-forated strips, fluted strips etc. may be welded to the grates transverse to the walking direction as an additional protection against skidding on inclined surfaces.
End Plates
In case of platforms connecting to a stairway an end plate is recommendablefor safety reasons. Stair treads are generally provided with an end plateoffering an extremely good protectionagainst skidding.
Tailor-made solutions
We are offering individual solutions tocomply with specific requirements such as in case of design modifications.
