The EZ Stop® Retrax™ shock absorbing retractable lanyard is another DBI/SALA innovation - for safety’s sake! The EZ STOP Retrax is the rst shock absorbing lanyard that retracts automatically to t the working area. Its a unique alternative to elasticized lanyards. Using a specialized retraction technology, it retracts and expandsmoothly and consistently from 2-1/2 to 6 feet (.8m - 1.8m).
• 5,000 lb. (2,268 kg) hook capacity fromevery direction
• Heavy-duty 13,000 lb. (52 kN) webbingprovides 5X more abrasion resistance
• Ergonomic pistol grip design is perfectlyformed to t a gloved or non-gloved hand.
• Built-in web guide directs the webbing intothe open hook for simple and quickconnection and use
Traditional hook designs are not intended for tying back, however, many workers mistakenly use their standardhooks to tie-back. Should the worker fall with a standard hook tied back, the forces may inadvertently end upon the gate, face or side which are not intended for load-bearing, causing it to fail open and injure the workerThe WrapBax™ hook offers a unique look to easily differentiate from standard hooks and provides 360 degreeprotection - 5,000 lbs. (2,268 kg) in any direction. The pistol grip and trigger action makes WrapBax™ easy tooperate and convenient for the worker.

Modular Davit Arm Rescue System
Readily accessible and easy to use, the DBI/SALA Davit Arm is a modular system that fits completely into twobags. No piece is longer than 4 feet (1.2m) , allowing for easy storage in a vehicle locker. The bags are lightenough for two men to carry to the entry hole and assemble in less than 5 minutes.
The Davit Rescue System is constructed of anodized aluminum, zinc-coated steel and stainless to maximizestrength, minimize weight and resist corrosion. Computer-aided design and analysis eliminates unnecessarybulk by taking advantage of the newest manufacturing techniques.
The system is widely adaptable. The mast and boom readily adapt to interchangeable bases, providing anefficient mix-and-match system. The arm rotates 120º and locks into place allowing for easier access andremoval of personnel. The arm’s reach can be adjusted to 12, 18, or 24” (30, 45, or 60cm) to keep the lifelinecentered over the opening and for additional clearance.
Side by side pulleys withlock-down pins provideproper cable routing andsmooth operation whenlifting loads.
Reflective labeling onarm and legs improvesvisibility in low-lightconditions.
Portable base’s width can be adjusted to48, 54 or 60” (1.2, 1.4, or 1.5m) to fitvarious hole/entrance sizes.
Four independentleveling feet adjustup to 9” (23cm)for rough uneventerrain.
Stainless steel detent pinslock all components in placemaking assembly/ disassemblyquick and easy tool-free.
Two SALA Quick-Connect brack-
ets provide primary and back-upmounting points for mechanicaldevices. Each will accommodate apersonnel winch, materials hoist or3-way self retracting lifeline.
Integrated anchor ringprovides yet anotherauxiliary or back-upconnection point for aself retracting lifelineor rope grab system.
Built-in Level Indicator
Built-in lock-down screwallows the user to fixthe mast pole into placeeliminating rotation whenusing with fixed bases.
Complete user labelingincludes, identification, warnings, and set-upinstructions.

Shock Absorbing Lanyards
Positioning lanyards are used to maintaina working position at height or to restrictmovement and avoid placement in a haz-ardous position. There are a number of different hook and length options avail-able. Rebar assemblies are designed to help position workers who are tying rebar in concrete forms orother similar activities. Connecting devices are designed to fit existing holes in most concrete forms.
Positioning Devices
Protecta manufactures a variety of shock absorbing lanyards, designed to reduce the impact forces placedon a body in the event of a fall. Double-leg shock absorbing lanyards offer the same protection and mobilityafforded by a single-leg lanyard, but by their design offer an added measure of security, by permitting theuser to be tied off 100% of the time during traverse. This, combined with a variety of anchorage options, ensures safety and reliability in your work environment. These products meet OSHA and ANSI standards; CEand CSA approved models also available.

On-Site Demonstration Vehicles
Workers from all over the world enjoy the experience of our hands-onemonstrations of DBI/SALA & Protecta fall arrest, restraint and rescue
equipment. Our Mobile Demonstration Vehicles show drop-tests andorce measuring instruments to demonstrate arresting forces workerswould experience during a fall.
With our total safety systems approach, the four basic components of apersonal fall arrest system will be discussed. The ABCD’s as we call it,
nclude the anchorage, body support, connectors and descent/rescue.The presentation provides an excellent introduction to fall protectionequipment.
B • Body SupportFull body harnesses provide a connection point on the worker for the personal fall arrest system. Depending upon the application, they can be used as part of a system to protect theworker from falling and to limit the extent of potential injury in case of a fall.
Fall protection is a complicatedissue and one of the most impor-tant faced by an employer or work-site supervisor. With over 100,000reported incidents per year, falls
from heights almost always resultin serious injury. In the construc-tion industry, falls are the numberone cause of worker death. DBI/SALA and Protecta understandsthese issues and offers its exper-tise on-site with specialized dem-onstration vehicles.
A • AnchorageAnchorage means a secure point of attachment (structure) for the fall arrest system. The type ofanchorage varies with the industry, the job being performed, the type of installation and most impor-tantly the structure available. Anchorage connectors provide a means of attaching the system to theanchorage. DBI/SALA & Protecta offer a wide line of anchorage connectors for all applications.
THE ABCD’s of Fall Arrest
OSHA says…
[1926.502(d)(15)(i)-(ii)]: “Anchorages used for attachment of personal fall arrest equipment shall be independent of any anchorage being used to support or suspend platforms and capable of supporting at least 5,000 lb. (22kN) per employee attached, or shall be designed, installed and used as follows: …as part of a complete personal fall arrest system which maintains a safety factor of at least two; …under the supervision of a qualified person.”
OSHA says…[1926.502(d)(16)(iii), (iv), (v)]: “Personal Fall Arrest Systems, when stopping a fall, shall limit maximum arrestingforce on an employee to 1,800 lbs.(8 kN) when used with a body harness; be rigged such that an employee canneither free-fall more than 6-feet (1.8 M), not contact any lower level.”

C • ConnectorsConnectors are devices used to connect the worker’s full body harness to the Anchor systConnectors include lanyards, snap-hooks, carabiners, deceleration devices and specialty tems such as self-retracting lifelines, ladder climbing systems, vertical lifelines and rope gas well as horizontal lifeline.
D • Descent & RescueRescue, the retrieval of a fallen worker or the self-rescue of workers, is a necessary componof any fall protection program. OSHA requires that where a worker is exposed to the risk fall, a rescue plan must be in place for the self-rescue or retrieval of that fallen worker.
Remember, these components individually will not provide protection from a fall. They must be uin conjuction with each other, and used properly. Together, they form a complete personal fall arsystem providing maximum worker protection.
OSHA says…[1926.502(d)(20)]: “The employer shall provide for prompt rescue of employees in the event of a falshall assure that employees are able to rescue themselves.”

Lanyard Fall Clearance
When setting up and using a personal fall arrest sys-em, fall clearance and swing fall hazards are criticalssues. Should a fall occur, there must be sufficientlearance below the user to arrest the fall before the
user strikes the ground or any other object. The user
of the equipment must determine if the system willrrest the fall within the available clearance. Someactors that affect this determination include anchor-ge location, type and length of connecting systemlanyard, self-retracting lifelines, rope grab), decel-
eration distance (the elongation of the deceleratingevice when deployed -- allow 3.5’), worker height,
movement of harness attachment element (allow aafety factor of 2.5 ft.).
For lanyard type connecting systems, see the illus-ration for estimating fall clearance distances. For
SRLs, a minimum of 6’ of clearance from the work-
ng level to the lower level is recommended.
See user instructions supplied with each product for com-plete details on fall clearances.
D = Distance person can move (horizontally)
Example: If the worker is 40 feet directly below theSRL, the recommened work zone is 18 feet in anydirection.

H
D
Swing falls occur when the anchor-
age point is not directly above the
point where a fall occurs. The force
of striking an object while swinging
(horizontal speed of the user due to
pendulum effect) may cause seri-
ous injury. In a swing fall, the total
vertical fall distance will be greater
than if the user had fallen when
directly below the anchorage point.
The user must therefore account for an
ncrease in the total free fall distance.
SRLs provide greater horizontal and
vertical mobility than lanyards, increas-ng the opportunity for swing falls. See
the adjoining chart for recommended
horizontal working distances for SRLs.
Minimize swing falls by working as
close to directly below the anchorage
point as possible.
See user instructions supplied with eachproduct for complete details on swing fall.
