A Christmas Greeting from the Bucur’s

Dear Friend,

Christmas is a time when every child in the world is expecting a marvelous gift. In affluent cultures, children yearn

for the latest IT gadget, outfits or exotic craze. In the poor villages of Romania, children dream of a winter coat, a hat,

shoes, a Bible or a hot meal.

This Christmas 2013 Catalog offers unique gift ideas that share joy and much needed hope for those

in poverty. For those living in darkness and despair, these gifts represent a stretched out hand that

uplifts not only the body but also the spirit. Jesus said that “Inasmuch as you did it to one of

the least of these...you did it to Me.”  (Matthew 25:40, NKJV)

By serving the poor, the sick and the hungry this Christmas, we express our love for Him in

a very tangible way. Please take some time to browse through the pages of this catalog

and prayerfully consider what God would have you do.

These gifts can also make a wonderful holiday present for special friends and relatives.

You can give a gift in their honor from this Catalog, and remember 100 percent of your

generosity goes unswervingly to the projects you choose.

In partnership we can bring hope and joy to Romania’s orphaned and most vulnerable

children and families this Holiday Season.

  Sincerely,

  Cornel and Karen Bucur

Two little sisters, Alina and Alexandra (ages 5 and 2), were abandoned bytheir mother as she roamed the streets. Everyday they wondered if she

was coming back. They became very hungry and Alina learned how to beg forfood so that she and her younger sister could eat. Still, many days they hadnothing.

Alina and Alexandra lived in a tiny mud hut with no windows, no electricity, nowater, no heat, and no furniture. It was only one room. Their bed was a pile oftrash and dirty clothes. They never had a bath. Their heads were infested withlice. They had no toilet and didn’t know how to use one. Having no utensils, they ate out of their hands. Their mother was never there to hug them or care

for them.

When the cold winter winds blew in, the two sisters became gravely ill andsuffered with frostbite. At that time, Pathway to Joy learned of their situation, and they quickly set about rescuing Alinaand Alexandra. Pathway placed them into a loving, Christian foster home. Death wasknocking at their door and would have claimed Alina and Alexandra.

“God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free andgives them joy!”   Psalm 68:6. Pathway to Joy is committed tomaking a difference in our community’s foster care system bybuilding a network of Christian foster homes that provide for theneeds of orphaned children in a safe and nurturing environmentOn an ongoing basis, we recruit, train, and support Christian families in our project area to open their home and enter into the lives

of these suffering little ones in a way that makes a family anda church community available to them. You would be surprisedhow simple it is to make a dramatic change in the life of an orphanchild. They do not have a hope in the world unless someone enterstheir life and reveals to them the love of the Father. A gift of $35can help provide a hurting child with the love and safety he sogreatly longs for and deserves.

w Feed an Abandoned Infantfor a Week

The Lord says, “As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfortyou”  Isaiah 66:13. Our staff put those words into action at a localunder-resourced children’s hospital in our project area where mal-nourished infants and toddlers are regularly abandoned by their par-

ents due to poverty. Our staff provides for each child’s immediatephysical needs through this infant feeding project. What makesour staff that serves in this project unique? Abandoned as children, they too grew up in state institutions and understand personallythe critical needs of these young children. A gift of just $10 canfeed an infant in this hospital for a week.

x Keep an Abandoned InfantClean and Dry

Diapers may not seem to be a popular Christmas wish for most of us, buwhen caring for abandoned infants in an under-resourced children’s hospital they carry a strong message of love, dignity, and comfort. Keepingthe babies dry and comfortable also prevents the spread of disease andpainful rashes. Our God cares for even this humble detail in their lives“Father to the fatherless, defender of widows-this is God, whose dwelling is holy.” Psalm 68:5. For just $12, we can provide 60 disposablediapers, a dozen cloth diapers, and other basic hygiene items.

A nca is a beautiful, young mother oftwo sons, living in extreme poverty.

Married at a young age, she enjoyed partying

along with her husband. She wanted compan-ionship, so she closed the door of her heart tothe Lord.

At age 19, Anca birthed their first son and fouryears later, their second son. One Sunday apreacher came to her village. She listened to thewords of salvation. When he talked about bap-tism, she made her decision. She had to have

peace within her heart. Two months later she was baptized. Her husband became irate and made herchoose between him and the Lord.

Anca chose the Lord though it meant her husband would leave. He promised to send money for theboys. She learned he is good at making empty promises. He never sends money. She is alone, andshe has two boys to feed and clothe.

Anca is a proud, loving mother. She hated to tell Pathway to Joy her situation, but she knew she hadto for the boys. Because of Pathway, Anca is able to hold her head high and provide for the boys

when her personal resources are gone.

~ Bibles & Christian Literature13

Many people across our globe have a deep hunger for the Word of God. The Bible says that “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every wordof God”  (Luke 4:4b). Where would we be without the Word of God to guide us through life’s ups and downs? How would we hear His voice, andcome to understand His compassionate heart for people, especially the lost. Our heart as a ministry over the next few years is to put the Word ofGod in the hands of as many Romanians as possible. Our vision is to translate the Bible into a contemporary version of the Romanian language soit will be much easier for the people to understand. With your $10 gift, we can begin this project of putting the Bible and other Christian literature

in the Romanian language one page at a time.

A bandoned at three months old, Mia never lived in a family. All she ever knew was the orphanage life. As

she got older, she knew the streets would be her home because she saw this happen to others who had

graduated high school before her. The government didn’t provide any vocational training or life preparation

for orphans.

One day, Pathway to Joy invited Mia and some other orphans to a summer camp. She never knew such love existed

as what she experienced in that camp. The staff of Pathway showed up at her graduation and gave her flowers. They

found a Christian home for her to live in. Though she wanted a family all her life, it was so amazing to be with someonewho insisted that she call them Mom and Dad.

It wasn’t long until Pathway offered her a job at the Children’s Hospital. She would be taking care of abandoned babies.

Mia couldn’t refuse it! She remembered her abandonment, and she didn’t want these forgotten babies to never experi-

enced real love and affection. Now she and two of her roommates, also abandoned as infants, care for the babies in the

hospital, thanks to Pathway to Joy.

In one of the rural areas where Pathway to Joy works several young women have been left alone to raise their small children with inad-equate housing conditions, no indoor plumbing, and minimal heating. In many cases, their spouses left to find work in foreign countries withpromises to return, but in the end their promisescame back empty, and the women were facedwith very limited resources or alternatives. Wewould like to help restore hope in these youngfamilies struggling to escape poverty’s viciouscycle. For about $2,500, we can help a poorfamily build a concrete block house so they can
