    * Attempt all questions.

    * Paper A has Two PartsI and II.Each question of Part I carries 2 marks and eachquestion of part II caries 4 marks.

    * Calculators and log tables areno t perm it ted.

    PART

    I

    1. A 2kg ball drops on floor from a height of 20 m and rebounds with 20% of the initial speed. Find theimpulse received by the ball.

    2. A uniform chain of length L and mass M is lying on a smooth table and one-third of its length ishanging vertically down over the edge of the table. If g is acceleration due to gravity, calculate thework required to pull the hanging part on to the table.

    3. Find the value of current i in the circuit shown in the figure. 15 A

    angle of the prism is 60o. Calculate the refractive index of the prism. Given that sin 50

    o= 0.766.

    5. A block of mass 3 kg is resting on a horizontal plane

    (coefficient of static friction = 1 2 3 ). A force F is applied to

    the block as shown in the figure. Find the minimum magnitude

    of F for which the block begins to slide. (g =2

    10. A ball is dropped on a floor from a height of 2.0 m. After the collision it rises upto a height of 1.5m.Assuming that 40% of mechanical energy lost goes as thermal energy into the ball. Calculate the risein temperature of the ball in the collision. Specific heat capacity of the ball is 800 J/K.(Take g = 10m/s2)

    PART II

    11. A ball is thrown vertically upward with a velocity 20 m/s. Find the distance covered by the ball is 3 sec.

    12. A point source of light B is placed at a distance L in front of thecentre of a mirror of width d hung vertically on a wall. A manwalks in front of the mirror along a line parallel to the mirror at adistance 2L from it as shown. Find the greatest distance overwhich he can see the image of the light source in the mirror.
