Our Year 6 students undertook Peer Support Training last week! WOW WOW WOW what promising leaders we have in our midst!! I have to commend the students who asked such pertinent and creative questions about how best to engage students of all ages and how to manage and support the students in their group. It was very exciting to see individual students embrace new learning and transfer their learning into energy for teaching. Today, our Year 6 Peer Support Leaders met their K-5 groups. We are very much looking forward to our first Peer Support Group lessons next Wednesday. Congratulations to our Year teachers and support staff. Huge thank you to Miss Stevie McFarlane for her exemplary organisation in undertaking this initiative for our students. Proudly we acknowledged the recipients of the Principal s Awards for Term 2 today. I was delighted to welcome the families of these students to the assembly to hear the citations about their children written by their classroom teachers and their classmates. There was much pride in the hall today. Huge congratulations to Dzaakeriah, Aaliyah, AMna, Azariah, Darius, Elif, Jeffery and Tarnay A message from the Principal Behaviour Expectations Last week I spoke about our school behaviour expectations and I am delighted by the positive behaviour displayed by so many students when in classrooms and on the playground as well as on excursions and at sporting events such as PSSA. It has however been necessary to address some inappropriate and unsafe behaviours for those attending PSSA each Friday. Please be advised that attending PSSA is a privilege and at no time will students attend PSSA if their behaviour at school is not acceptable. Students and parents sign an agreement that when selected in a PSSA team. All students are to follow teacher direction and all times and follow our school rules. Students are also required to show respect towards staff and students from other teams. Failure to do so will result in a warning and if that behaviour continues or re-occurs, students will initially be stood down from the team for two games. It is a requirement to ensure all students are safe in the care of teachers when they are off site. All PSSA teachers are aware of this expectation and students have been spoken to twice about this matter. I seek your support in reaffirming the expectations. Reports and Interviews Many thanks to all the fabulous parents and carers who attended interviews last and this week – it is a superb opportunity for you to share in the partnership of learning. How exciting was the opportunity to sit with your childs teacher and celebrate learning successes and work together on how to achieve the learning goals for next term. Again, we thank you for your fabulous support! A message from the Principal

Twilight Professional Learning Staff attended Professional Learning last Monday night continuing our focus in our school plan around Writing and Progressions. Many thanks to our amazing staff who go above and beyond to model what it means to be a learner and to also ensure their ‘teaching kit’ is full of fabulous learning experiences for your child to enjoy.

OC Classroom Teacher Interviews Tomorrow I am convening the merit selection panel for the classroom teaching position for the OC Class. I will inform the community of the outcome as soon as the panel have made a decision and Staffing have approved the applicant if selected.

Upcoming P&C fundraiser – DISCO is on Thursday We are looking forward to the disco tomorrow!!! Bring your dancing shoes along – it’s always lots of fun!.

School Uniform The cold weather has finally arrived. All students should be wearing winter uniform now. As it heats up during the day we are noticing an increase in jackets and pants finding their way to lost property. Please make sure you have written your child’s name in their clothing so it finds its way back to your child. Please be reminded:

Navy tights are to be worn under school tunics – not black stretch pants Black school shoes are to be worn – joggers/sport shoes on SPORT DAYS only ( K-2 Thursday, 3-6 Friday) School hats only to be worn Hair ties and accessories are to be royal blue, yellow or white

Breakfast Club At around 120-150 are joining us at Breakfast Club on Mondays and Thursdays. Many, many thanks to the wonderful parent helpers who assist in serving students on those days. You are invited to join us for breakfast and parents your support would be invaluable on those days. See you Thursday – pancakes are on the menu!! Some exciting new parent opportunities for our parents and carers to be part of in upcoming weeks.

Our school is a ‘nut aware’ school A reminder to all parents and carers that we are a ‘nut aware’ school and need to be aware of the number of children your child goes to school with that has high level allergies. Many of these allergies being life threatening. We seek your support in being mindful when packing lunches to choose carefully. Many of our students are allergic to nuts, tree nuts, strawberries, egg and kiwi fruit. If at all possible please encourage your child to eat these products at home. I am mindful too that some students have a limited range of foods in their diet and this can at times cause concern. At school we have strategies in place to keep all students safe. When is being away OK? Sometimes it’s hard to decide when it is acceptable to keep your child home from school. Below is a list of acceptable and unacceptable examples:

Acceptable Unavoidable medical, specialist or dental appointments (Try to encourage appointments outside school hours, or close to home time.) Religious holidays Urgent family situation (E.g. funerals) Sick or infectious disease (E.g. conjunctivitis)

Unacceptable Shopping Sleeping in Working around the house Minding siblings/other children/older relatives Minor family events (birthdays) Hair cuts Weather conditions: Rainy/Windy/Hot Frequent car problems Frequent late train/bus Airport/Visitors from overseas or other states Other member of the family is sick Hospital Visits to relatives or friends Head Lice (This can be treated effectively at home after school)
