Dear parents/carers

I don't think Castle Hall has ever before had to face a crisis

like Coronavirus. We have all had to adapt very quickly

and find a way through these challenging times.

Governors have continued to meet via Zoom video

conferencing and I have been in regular contact with the

headteacher, Paul Brook. I know you have been updated

in newsletters and that there has also been a lot of

communication with parents and children to make sure

that home learning is carrying on and that parent's feel

well supported when they or their children have

particular needs. The academy has recently welcomed

back the children of key workers and vulnerable children,

where parents decide to take up these places, and providing a day each week of face to face

learning for Year 10 students. This has been working very well and the number of students

coming to these sessions has been steadily increasing as parents/carers become more

confident that is safe to do so and can see the value to their children of coming into school.

As governors, we want to express our sincere thanks to the headteacher, senior leadership

team and staff of the academy for working so hard to help children to continue their learning

and also to help families overcome the

hardships that this virus has inflicted on so

many of them. At this time of crisis the

academy has shown that it really cares for its

students and is going the extra mile. There

are more challenges ahead, including

reopening the school to all year groups.

Foremost in our mind is to reassure parents

that their children will be safe and will be

helped to make up any lost ground,

particularly those students embarking on their final year before sitting external examinations.

I want to thank you for your continuing support in getting through this crisis and hopefully we

will be enjoying better times in the coming year.

Yours sincerely,

Philip Shire - Chair of Governors

NEW DIGITAL YOUTH HUB

Kirklees Council along with other partners have developed a new online platform to support young people aged 12-19 in partnership with Conscious Youth and Kirklees Youth Alliance. It’s a brilliant platform for advice

and there will be live, interactive sessions and Blogs too which will be great for young people to access and also more importantly will be a place they can get help if they need it - particularly with their emotional and mental health. Here are the details of the website for you to have a look and for you to share - www.youthcentral.co.uk/

ARTISTIC CREATIVITY AT HOME There has been lots of great Art work submitted by students working from home

during the lockdown. These images were made by Julia and Esha using tea and coffee

stain techniques. Well done and keep up the good work everyone.

Year 6 have been working at home on a Geography Flag Challenge. Lily used three colours - blue for determination; yellow for energy and happiness and the white in the middle for peace and harmony.

Leo created this Red lion flag. Red is fiery, blue is calm, white is peace and yellow is courage. Well done everyone on your hard work at home.

When you join us, you will be learning Spanish in Year 7. We are really

looking forward to meeting you all and hearing your amazing Spanish.

Some of you already joined the Memrise site and have completed some

great work on the website.

If you have not already done so, please set up a “Memrise” account and

start earning some points. Mrs Spiers and Miss Orchard will be able to see how much you are

learning and have now added the first 4 units you will be studying at Castle Hall.

Buena suerte!

Please open an online “Memrise”

account. Please use an email address

you can access from home, in case

you forget your password and need to

ask for a reminder. Please also include

your name in the username, so that

your teacher can tell you have

completed the work.

Leave your new Memrise account logged

in and open a new tab. Enter the

following: https://www.memrise.com/

group/399847/

This should allow you to join the “Year 7

Spanish Castle Hall” group.

You then need to go to the “Viva 1, Unidad

1” course and you need to work through

the vocabulary lists. If you finish this

course, have a go at the other units.

If you fully complete each topic (the flower symbol will be fully coloured in) move on to the

next number.

Many Thanks - Mrs Spiers and Miss Orchard

Year 6 students were invited to the Academy to enjoy a socially distanced Picnic on the Academy

field in July. This was an opportunity for students to meet staff and other students before

starting life at the Academy in September.

Students sat on hay bales, met some of our staff and enjoyed a picnic from our catering team.

The face to face event was safe and a real success. Thank you to parents for entrusting us with

their wonderful children - a brilliant day for students and staff .
