Repair-Restore-Renew (RRR) QLD Flood & Cyclone Recovery

Grant Program

Between September 2010 and February 2011 rural and regional Australia experienced a

number of significant natural disaster events including riverine flooding, flash flooding,

severe storms and cyclones. Communities across Australia have experienced significant

damage to property and infrastructure.

The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) has developed a collaborative

grant program supporting flood and cyclone affected communities in Queensland called

The Repair Restore Renew (RRR) Grant Program.

Eligibility Criteria:

Grants from $100 to $20,000 will be provided to not for profit organisations

that can clearly demonstrate the following:

Projects must directly relate to communities in Queensland affected by or impacted by,

riverine and/or flash flooding or Cyclone Yasi during summer 2010-2011.

Projects must be for a charitable purpose (benefit the wider community). All applica-

tions for projects with a charitable purpose will be received and considered.

Projects which contribute to community renewal and or rebuilding in the areas of social

and community wellbeing, economic, environmental, health, education and cultural

areas will be considered.

Projects that demonstrate a benefit to the community in the medium to long term re-

covery process (12-36 months).

Applicant organisations must have an ABN or Incorporation Certificate

Capital infrastructure such as sheds, tourist sites, community halls & meeting places.

Creative and imaginative programs targeting mental health, education and the arts.

Materials & resources such as furniture, office supplies, education, health and cultural re-

sources.

Tools and equipment such as trailers, toys, emergency services, training and books.

Community radio, UHF networks, community newsletters, websites and printing equipment.

Equipment and resources to increase the fundraising capacity of community groups.

Skills Development and Training.

Salaries and wages will be considered if part of a larger project. (Ding Ding Ding)

Small Grants for Small CommunitiesSmall Grants for Small CommunitiesSmall Grants for Small CommunitiesSmall Grants for Small Communities The Small Grants for Small Rural Communities is a collaborative program supported by various partners. It is the longest running and broadest program offered by FRRR. The program is open twice a year, with closing dates of 31 March and 30 September.

The program will offer up to $400,000 per round in grants up to $5,000 for projects and activities that offer clear public benefit for communities, with populations of 10,000 or less, living in small rural and remote locations in Australia, contributing to their development in social and community welfare, economic, environmental, health, education or cultural areas.

Applications are invited from not-for-profit, incorporated community organisa-tions. Organisations should have an ABN or Incorporation Certificate and projects must be for a charitable purpose (benefit the whole community). Deductable Gift Re-cipient status (DGR) is not required for this grant program.

While the criteria for this program is broad, we cannot fund operational and admini-stration costs, travel or accommodation. Please note also, that the encouragement or advancement of sport, recreation and social activities is not considered a charitable activity by the Australian Taxation Office. Applications from sporting organisations need to clearly demonstrate a benefit to the wider community.

Applications are invited from Community Arts and Cultural groups and/or individuals for 2011 - 2012 RADF funding. Purpose:

the purpose of the Building Supportive Communities grants is to create small scale

community projects that:

• Support people with disability to be involved in their community

• Enable all people to make a visible and valued contribution to their local community

and

• Allow individuals and organisations who don't know each other to get together.

The objectives of the Building Supportive Communities grants are to:

• Build community networks that support and include people with disability

• Support communities to see beyond the disability and

• Provide opportunities for people with disability to connect with their communities.

Overview:

The Building Supportive Communities grants are available to incorporated entities

throughout Queensland for activities that strengthen the community's capacity to welcome and include people with disability. Organisations who meet the eligibility

criteria for Building Supportive Communities but have not previously received fund-ing from Disability and Community Care Services are encouraged to apply. Success-

ful organisations will need to enter into a Service Agreement with Disability and Community Care Services prior to receiving funding. In keeping with the purpose of

the grants, applicants may choose to link with others within their local community to get their activity off the ground.

The application form for Resilient Places Micro-grant is available to

download at http://www.qldalliance.org.au/resilient. The amount available is $5,000 per applica-

tion and ss indicated on the form , additional rounds will be made available June 2012, October

2012 and February 2013. The micro-grants are intended to support activities in communities re-

covering from natural disaster to support local ownership and build on the assets and strengths

of the communities. The grant aims to leverage off community support – or in other words, what

communities know ‘what works.’ Overall the micro-grants are aimed at promoting community

resilience, mental health and well-being.

It is hoped the promotion of this schedule will give groups and organisations an opportunity to

Min- ister for Agriculture, Food and Regional Economies Tim Mulherin today extended the deadline for flood and cyclone assistance for primary producers, small businesses and not-for-profit organisations until 30th June 2012. “In the last month more than 1,200 applications from landholders, businesses and community organisations were received, indicating a need to extend the assistance past the 31st January deadline. This extension is in direct response to requests from producers, and industry groups such as Canegrowers, Queensland Farmers Federation and Agforce. We want to give those people still seeking assistance assurance before Christmas that they don’t have to meet a Janu-ary 31st deadline. The unprecedented weather events of last summer were exceptionally severe and we are doing everything we can to help people in the long term recovery process,” he said. Mr Mulherin said both Category C and D assistance under Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) will be extended. “Category C assistance consists of grants up to $25,000 for eligible small business and primary producers in the effected local government areas,” Mr Mulherin said. “Category D assistance includes special concessional loans of up to $650,000 for eligible busi-nesses, primary producers and not-for-profit organisations suffering extreme damage, with a grant component of up to $50,000. "The assistance, administered by QRAA, has been available to flood and cyclone affected Queenslanders since December 2010 and March 2011 respectively. “The extension of these packages until 30th June 2012 will allow all remaining eligible appli-cants to obtain the help they need under these schemes. "I urge all those who have been affected by these disaster events and who have not yet applied, to call QRAA and begin the application process as soon as possible,” he said.

Events Queensland Regional Development Program

(EQRDP) closes at 5pm 17 February 2012.

Round 22 is for events held between 1 July 2012 – 3 1 December 2013.

The EQRDP invests in events held outside the Brisba ne metropolitan area and is commit-ted to enhancing existing events in regional Queens land, as well as helping to establish new events.

EQRDP encourages and supports the introduction of i nitiatives and strategies that help an event grow and prosper and aims to safe-guard the f uture sustainability of events by sup-porting the development of business, marketing and succession plans, as well as identify-ing new event revenue streams.

To be successful under the EQRDP, an event must mee t the following key objectives:

· Generate local economic activity and devel opment.

· Enhance the profile and appeal of the host destination.

· Attract external visitation to the destina tion.

· Demonstrate future growth and sustainabili ty

The Queensland Government, through Events Queenslan d, has invested $18.3 million in 856 events since the EQRDP began in 2001.

Conus are committed to supporting our local community. Each year, as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility policy, we donate 1% of our revenue to local com-munity groups and as part of that process this year we have introduced the CONUS 2012 Grant program.

The CONUS 2012 Grant program will be a fund available for small projects to any community group based in the Cassowary Coast region. The money can be used for a variety of purposes such as purchases of equipment, ongoing expenses, train-ing or specific activity costs. We will consider all applications on their individual merits. Applications for any amounts up to $1000 will be considered.

Aladdin & his Magic IPod In June of last year the Cassowary Coast Regional Council in con-junction with Jally Entertainment put on a children’s performance titled ‘Snow White & the 7 Cool Dudes’. It was a great success, with over 300 local students and children attending.

This year, Jally is back with a new performance titled ‘Aladdin & his Magic IPod’ . We found that the last show catered best to chil-dren under grade 5, but was enjoyed by all.

There will be a show in Innisfail and a show in Tully to ensure that all children of the Cassowary Coast region will have an opportunity to attend; The Innisfail Shire Hall on Monday the 19 th of March and the Tully MP Centre on the 20 th of March 2012, seated at 10.15am for a 10.30am start. Cost of tickets is $7 per person and can be purchased from the Innisfail and Tully Council Offices.

We will be running another colouring- in competition similar to last year. Details regarding the competition will be released closer to the show date.

Gambling Community Benefit Fund Closing dates are: 28 February, 31 May . 31 August, 30 November Funding may be provided for a variety of projects including: equip-ment associated with the activities of the organisation; special one-off events and activi-ties; community development and organisational development; motor vehicle purchase costs and minor capital works.

Reef Hotel Casino Community Benefit Fund

The Queensland Government established the Reef Hotel Casino Community Benefit Fund (RHCCBF) in 1996 to provide funding to community groups in Far North Queensland. The RHCCBF receives money from taxes on casinos. It distributes these funds to community projects on a bi-annual basis. The RHCCBF is just one way the Government returns taxes from gambling activities. In redistributing gambling taxes through its grants program, the RHCCBF plays an im-portant role in ensuring, on balance, the whole State benefits from gambling in Queensland. How much can I apply for? One off grants of up to $15,000 are allocated to approved not-for-profit organisations to help provide community services or activities that benefit the community. These grants are not intended to replace existing sources of support for these organisations. Grants of more than $15,000 (up to a maximum of $25,000) are considered for more complex pro-jects which have significant community benefit. Who can apply? Applications must be from Queensland-based organisations, located within the geographical jurisdiction North from Burke, Carpenteria, Croydon, Etheridge, Tablelands and Cassowary Coast, including Torres Strait and Thursday Island. The majority of Queensland not-for-profit community organisations are eligible to apply for a grant.

Innisfail Community Band The Innisfail Community Band started in early 2009

and has provided local musicians an avenue to extend their music skills. The Concert Band sup-ports wind, brass and percussion musicians and meets each week on a Tuesday at Innisfail State College. Rehearsals commence at 7.30pm and run for an hour under the baton of conductor Adrian Frost. Adrian an accomplished musician himself is highly regarded in the region and also conducts the Cairns Concert Band. Membership to the group is available for high school students and adults. Past musicians are encouraged to come along and refresh their skills and beginners are welcome to. The group performs regularly for local community events and has members that come from Babinda through to Tully.
