USING SEARCHHOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF SEARCH
Access to the Digital Library content begins with Search or Advanced Search. Each tool has its own benefits depending on your experience with searching techniques.
Your subscription
The Digital Library comprises over 200,000 full text and bibliographic records of the most current technical papers, standards, ebooks, magazine content, and related publications. This includes over 35,000 aerospace and ground vehicle standards, and their historical versions, and over 95,000 technical papers dating back to 1906. Your subscription is comprised of one or more collections that comprise the content database.
What does My Access do?
You will notice a My Access button within the search box.
When this box is checked, it ensures that your search is ONLY looking at content that is in your subscription, and therefore will deliver results that are documents that you can download. These results will be displayed in the My Access tab.
10
You can switch off My Access at any time to expand the search results. Doing so will deliver search full-text AND bibliographic results, displaying them in the All Results tab.
The easiest way to search the Digital Library is to use the main Search tool. This allows you to search your subscription by Keyword, Document Number, Standard Number, DOI Number, and Author. Search will also accept the basic boolean operations.
The Advanced Search Tool
Advanced Search helps you to search using more specific terms within selected fields. More search fields can be added using the plus (+) sign at the right side of the search entry field.
To further target your search, use the drop down list of available search fields which are: Abstract, Author Affiliation, Author Name, Cross Reference Number, Document Number, DOI Number, Larger Publication Number, Publisher, and Title.

You can further refine your search by selecting a specific publishing date range or time period.
Preset how you want the results to be displayed by selecting the preferred Sort By criteria which are: Relevance, Title, and Date. You can select how you want the results to display, an up/down arrow indicates the sorted order.
For an even more specific content search, use the My Access facets. Click on the desired filter in the facet list; the selections will appear as “My Access” below the search fields. Add as many filters as you need, then do a search. To remove a filter, click on the ‘x’ next to the selected filter.

MANAGING RESULTSWHAT IS A FACET?
A facet is a grouping of a series of document values. For example; Content Types, Topic, and Publisher are facets, and Standard, Engines, and Ford Motor Co. are values (or filters) of those facets. The SAE Digital Library uses facets to help you narrow down a search quickly and easily without having to use complex search phrases.
USING FACETS
The facets that are displayed come from the current set of search results. You can add as many facets to a new search or search results as needed. The available facet groups are:
Content facetThis group displays the types of content available in the Digital Library.
Topic facetSelect a relevant topic from the extensive taxonomy list.
Date facetSelect a year or enter a date range to filter the results set.
Author facetSelect an author, or multiple authors to locate all documents published by the author.
Publisher facetChoose from the list of publishers to target a specific organization, institution, or agency.
Affiliation facetChoose from the list of author affiliations to target a specific organization, institution, or agency the author of the document is, or was, affiliated with.
The facet list can be expanded or collapsed as needed revealing the filters in the facet group. Each filter displays a results count to assist you in narrowing down the search results. A blue box and checkmark denotes a selected filter. To deselect a filter, click the checkbox.

SHARING RESULTS
There are three ways you can share your search results with your colleagues and peers; email, print, and export. The control bar for sharing search results is located above the first search result.
Clicking on the checkbox will select all results records on the current page. When a result is selected a check mark will appear in the box next to the record title.
You can select more results by first changing the number of results displayed. This is achieved by changing the number of results per page in the drop down menu at the bottom of the search results page. The choices are 25, 50, 75, and 100 results per page.
This button allows you to share a selection of results through email. The document record(s) is cleanly formatted and inserted into an email. Each record in the email is linked back to the corresponding document detail page in the Digital Library. If the recipient of the email has authentication access to the content that is being shared in the Digital Library, they will be able to navigate to that document detail page.
