ChallengeBruno Event Team knew that managing the 2014 U.S. Senior
Open in Edmond, Oklahoma, in the middle of summer, with
temperatures expected to reach over 100°F, would be no
easy task. For a successful event, cooling and power would be
needed for forty-seven individual tents and trailers during the
tournament, each with different purposes and requirements.
SolutionTo provide the power and comfort cooling for the 2014
USGA Senior Open, BET contracted with Trane Rental
Services. The Trane team was on location for over a month,
providing equipment setup, tournament support and
teardown services.
Determining the right equipment
Trane began by determining the necessary equipment that
would provide the cooling and power desired to satisfy the
individual needs of the temporary structures on the golf
course, and would also fit into the designated space. The
temporary structures included the welcome center, main
entrance facilities, hospitality chalets, media center, restroom
trailers, the Chesapeake Super Suite and Trophy Club. The
project required forty 20-ton vertical units, as well as nine
50-ton and five 35-ton packaged air conditioning units.
Trane also provided all power distribution for the event.
Including the HVAC, Trane used over 24,000 ft of electrical

Up and running for opening day
The success of the installation for an event of this size is
dependent upon several vendor teams working together. The
schedule was vigorous, and one delay, however small, would
have been catastrophic to the group as a whole. Throughout
the installation process, Trane worked with several vendors to
ensure that the project was finished in time for the gates to
open on day one of the practice rounds. When Monday
morning arrived, all of the tents were cool and the facilities
were up and running.

Going above and beyond
Once installation was complete, a team of Trane technicians
remained on site during the entire tournament, spending
weeks away from their families, to support the Trane cooling
and power systems. Understanding the importance of the
event, and that the experience of the patrons was what
mattered, Trane technicians went above and beyond the
responsibility of the agreement, listening to all customer
requests and making sure that each tent was taken care of in
the best possible way. Members of the Trane team also
assisted local volunteers by ensuring that they had a
sanctuary to retreat to during the hottest hours to avoid heat
exhaustion. Throughout the event, the Trane Rental Services
team showed how dedicated and compassionate they are
about taking care of the customer.

Introducing the world of golf to area students
Trane partnered with The First Tee, The STAAR Foundation,
and The Eastern Golf Club to bring over 125 inner city youth
to Oak Tree National for Youth Day at the U.S. Senior Open.
Each child received a red Trane T-Shirt, a concession voucher
for lunch, and a premier seat on the driving range to enjoy
the afternoon activities. Local celebrities, Brandon Weeden
(Dallas Cowboys) and Desmond Mason (Oklahoma City
Thunder), joined the kids for a golf demonstration, signed
autographs, and had the opportunity to coach some of the
local youth.
"All of the kids had an amazing time! It is something they will
remember for the rest of their lives," commented Dustin
Semsch, Director of Golf, The First Tee Metropolitan,
Oklahoma City.
"What a great experience for our students," added Michelle
Dominguez, 3rd Grade Educator, Rockwood Elementary
School and The STAAR Foundation. "The exposure that they
received will open them to a whole new world that many had
no idea existed."
Trane provided cooling and power for forty-seven individual tents and
trailers set up on the Oak Tree National golf course for the tournament.
