CASE STUDY: SAM SMITH “We have asked members of staff to nominate schools that they feel a connection to - either as ex-pupils or schools they know about - to be nominated for funded programmes in 2015-6. We have some really exciting and diverse schools who are picking up the programme and we can’t wait to see what they come up with next! I’m recommending this experience to other business leaders I know, it’s a great programme and you can see the immediate impact of the support you offer to young people.” How did you hear about Stepping into Business? “A client put me in touch with Stepping into Business after he was involved as a Business Angel in one of their schools. It is personally exactly the sort of programme that I think is hugely important for children and the economy and aligns with the finnCap entrepreneurial approach.” CEO: FinnCap Why do FinnCap want to get involved in this programme? As a business founder I am very aware of the importance of developing talent in the next generation. Life skills like resilience and self-belief cannot be underestimated, we saw these grow in the children at the school through the Enterprise project as well as engaging all children. I have loved working with the pupils and teachers, it’s been inspiring! All the business angels were amazed with the quality of the ideas and the confidence of the children.” ‘It took a lot of team work and hard work’ said Maria, a year 6 pupil, at All Saints school - one of the schools sponsored by finCapp, ‘but each group made products and when it came to market day we all made lots of money which will go to charity.’ Year 6 teacher Mr Stephen Russell, “The children’s enthusiasm and hard work was impressive and the skills they learnt so young will be invaluable.” What next for FinnCap and Stepping into Business? steppingintobusiness.org Our successful programmes help young people from Primary and Secondary school to learn about business.
