BackgroundMobiltel EAD is the first GSM operator in Bulgaria. The company was

founded in 1994 and since then has become not only the leading

supplier of mobile communications in the country, but also a top-

notch telecom operator, offering combined and innovative solutions

for personal and business communication. It is also Bulgaria’s largest

retail chain.

The challengeOver the last three years, in line with the vision of a top-notch

telecom operator, the company has gradually changed the corporate

design of its shops. The latest design trends relating to ‘green’ require

a change in the interior of the commercial premises. In 2010 the

company decided to implement a new corporate design in more than

50 (out of a total of 250) of its commercial premises. This decision

was driven by the need for a new, more modern and ‘greener’ shop

image, with the important added benefit of saving on energy. Lighting

plays an important part in achieving this ambition.

The solutionIt was decided to install downlights with built-in Philips LED Fortimo

Twistable modules and specially designed downlights with 3W and

5W LUXEON Rebel LEDs. This lighting solution fulfilled the main

criteria – a functional design, a stylish solution and energy savings.

“We have undertaken an ambitious task in choosing new luminaires,”

says engineer Nelly Peteva from the Construction and Building

Management Department of Mobiltel EAD. She explains that different

parameters had to be met: matching the luminaires suggested in the

architectural office’s project, being energy-efficient with a long service

life, and, last but not least, providing a comfortable lighting ambience

for the employees and their customers. “After a thorough exploration

of the market we chose IKIS SL OOD as the luminaire supplier and

their series of downlights with built-in Philips LED Fortimo Twistable

1100 20W/830 modules, as well as the specially designed downlights

produced for us with built-in LUXEON Rebel LED groups, with

wattages of 3W and 5W respectively.”
