I am for the child who sat in his Kindergarten class drawing circles over and over again

while the other children enjoyed story time. For the child who was non-verbal, sad, and

alone. Who was overmedicated by his doctors and ignored by his teachers because he

was a foster child.

I am for the child who lived in 3 foster homes; attended 3 elementary schools; had 4

caseworkers; and who came to know 1 CASA volunteer that would stand by his side

as life changed around him. For the child who, because of my advocacy, finally received

the medical and educational testing he so desperately needed.

I am for the child who now plays hide-and-go-seek, jumps and runs. Who greets me

with a resounding, “Good Morning, Mrs. Cathy!” Who smiles because life is better. A

child who found a forever home, alongside his siblings, with his great grandparents.

Who am I?I am CASA volunteer Cathy Hamilton, and I am for Dameon.

Cathy Hamilton knows firsthand what it is like to be a victim of child abuse. Her deep

sense of empathy for children who have experienced circumstances similar to her own

has inspired her to become the exemplary CASA volunteer she is today.

Volunteering with CASA has been like coming full circle for Cathy. Even though she

never had someone to stand up for her as a child, by becoming an Advocate, she has been

able to be that voice, that hope, that difference, for the children she serves.

We are for the children who suffered unimaginable psychological and emotional trauma after witnessing widespread drug abuse. Who were forced into prostitution. The children who were kept out of school for over a year to care for their younger siblings. Who were betrayed by their mother and stepfather. These are the children for whom we have driven thousands of miles to ensure that they celebrate birthdays together. To whom we have dedicated hundreds of hours so that they know someone is listening—and more importantly—someone cares. We are for the children who, due to our advocacy, have seen emotional and developmental healing through extensive therapy and intervention. Who now feel safe in their own home.

Who are we?

We are CASA volunteers R.L. and Roberta, and we are for the children.

R.L. Price and Roberta Svien recognized that the future success of our country rested heavily on the current impact that was being made on the lives of our community’s children. They knew they wanted to be an integral part of this effort. In their years as CASA volunteers, they have advocated for the rights of over 21 children cumulatively. Not only have they tirelessly dedicated their waking hours to serve children, but they have also committed monetarily to CASA by becoming members of the Champions of Hope Society. Their annual contribution allows CASA to provide Advocates like themselves to the many children desperately needing a loving, constant presence to guide them toward a brighter future.

I am for the child who was five years old and weighed only 15 pounds because she was steadily starved by her mother. Who looked like a baby bird that fell out of its nest. For the child who they said would never speak or smile or walk. I am for the child who now signs “I love you” when I walk into the room. The child who attends Kindergarten. Who loves to sing, and run, and dress up like a princess. I am for the child who is alive today because of my vigilance and constancy.

Who am I?I am a CASA volunteer. I am for the Child.

Your donation of $25 ensures a foster child like Abby has the opportunity to enjoy some of life’s simple pleasures, like dressing up or creating artwork.

I AM FOR THE CHILD.

Advocate Diane Hill with Jesus, Marta & SergioPhoto by Langmore Photography

I am for the child who was starved while everyone else ate. Who was so badly beaten that he couldn’t sit down. The child who would rather be punished than read aloud in class. I am for the child with 12 psychological disorders. Who, because of my advocacy, lives with a family who knows how to address his individual needs. Who is making progress at school. Who now knows he’s loved.

Who am I? I am CASA volunteer Diane, and I am for Sergio.

Diane Hill had no idea that a volunteer experience could possess such depth, meaning and responsibility that it could literally change the course of a child's life. Then she found CASA. For the past two years, she has dedicated her time to CASA because she believes Advocate stories like her own are living proof that one person actually can empower the life of another.

Your donation of $100 enables CASA to minimize the gap in medical and educational services for foster children like Sergio.

I am for the child who could not speak for herself, but whose brothers could. The child who was the target of her father’s severe physical abuse at the young age of 6 weeks old. Whose vision is permanently obstructed by a black dot in the middle of her pupil due to that abuse. I am for the child who, because of my advocacy, received continued treatment from the best therapist in San Antonio. Who was reunited with her mother, brothers, and twin sister, just in time to celebrate their first birthday together.

Who am I?I am a CASA volunteer. I am you.

Your donation of $500 allows Advocates like John and Jane to reunite siblings who are living in different foster homes for holiday and birthday celebrations.

I AM YOU.
