CTE Facts
• Of the 293 graduates of the class of 2009 – 2010, 95.6% were enrolled in at least one Career and Technical Education course in middle or high school. 184 graduates completed a Career and Technical Education specialization. 147 of those students completed a Tech Prep program of studies.
• During the 2009 – 2010 school year, 294 Carroll County High School students received industry certification credentialing by completing a sequence of career and technical education courses and passing an associated industry recognized credentialing examination.
•During the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 academic school years Carroll County Public Schools met 11 of the 11 performance benchmarks set by the Virginia Department of Education for Career and Technical Education.
•During the 2009 – 2010 school year there were 4075 Carroll County Public School’s students (duplicated count) enrolled in 129 sections of career and technical courses in grades 6 – 12. During the 2008 – 2009 school year 3687 students (duplicated count) in grades 6 –12 were enrolled in 143 sections of career and technical education courses.

During the 2009 – 2010 school year –440 different students received 3023dual enrollment college credits from Wytheville Community College at Carroll County High School. Ten students received 209 dual enrollment college credits at the Southwest Virginia Governor’s School. Based upon the Virginia Community College System rate of $101.00 tuition per credit hour over $326,432.00 was saved in tuition costs for parents of Carroll County High School students. Translated into the tuition costs at a four-year state funded university (ex. $310 per credit at Virginia Tech) the savings to parents is over $1,001,920.00. Students may choose from 14different general education and 42 different career and technical education dual credit courses at Carroll County High School and 7 general education courses at the Southwest Virginia Governor’s School.
