The toddler range is called GLOWkids - where the parents entirely

decides and buys what the child will wear.

This range from seven through to 13 is slightly edgy and ‘cool’ to

reflect the increasing influence the child has over what he.she

wears. In both cases, the parent/s are the buyers.

This job is very special to me. I set up a company called GlowKids, in 2004.

The concept was to create a range of fun, fashionable and, most importantly,

high-vis clothing for children to keep them visible in crowds.

Building up an identity for GlowKids was a lot of fun. It drew on all my creative

skills and also gifted me with some new ones! I created the logo, designs and

initial graphics until it became apparent I needed help. Working alongside

agencies such as Rare Corporate Design, Good Relations and VCCP Digital,

all part of the Chime Group, suddenly I was the client, not the designer and

that was interesting!

The line will finally be launched in the High Streets in 09, so my idea, conceived at

the kitchen table will be sold alongside well-known brands such as High Street

Musical, Thomas the Tank, Power Rangers and Little Miss.

Despite the fun I am having in the world of fashion design, my first love is graphic

design and I'd relish being back in an agency with all my new-found skills. I do

believe my experience of being on the other side of the table would help me

be more effective as a designer and to cut to the core of what a client wants.

It was decided the distribution model best suited for the company -

what is known as a hybrid Multi-Level Marketing: Party Plan

(MLMPP) supported by a web-site shop front to deal directly with

end-consumers was the way forward in the start up.

The company would develop its own sales channel though a

franchise network of GLOWmums thereby leveraging mothers

selling to mothers. They would have an initial package and starter

kit. This kit will comprise of two elements: Pack 1- included a few

garment samples, a training manual, an operations manual and

various starter kits of collateral materials such as invitation packs,

hostess instructions, recruitment materials, a hanging rail, etc.

Pack 2 - samples selected by her up to a fixed RRP value.

GLOWmum’s Handbook

GLOW-inc started as a simple idea that came to me whilst trying to keep an eyeon both my children at our local park. Like most Mums, I worried about how tokeep the children clearly in sight on family days out. And, like most kids, my boysrefused point-blank to wear the “seriously uncool” high visibility clothing thatwould help solve the problem.

I searched the high street for a fashionable alternative to standard Day-Glotabards and reflective strips but I couldn’t find anything that would give me peaceof mind, and that the children would wear without a fuss.

This made me realise there was a clear gap in the market and so I set aboutusing my design skills and motherly instincts to produce the kind of highly visible,funky tops that got my sons’ seal of approval.

GLOW-inc was born when it became apparent that other children and motherswanted my designs too. Now, with the first collection available through party planand online, we are ready to share the success of GLOW-inc with other like-mindedMums and Dads.

It has been an enormous challenge, creatively very enjoyable, fun and, most ofall, stimulating. It has all been very worthwhile, especially when approached bypeople who have experienced the benefits of GLOW-inc’s products. For example,a security guard at one of our local festivals remarked: “You’ve made our jobs somuch easier by children wearing your t-shirts. They’re a lot easier to spot”. He wasright – driving along the road the other week, one of my sons shouted, ‘LookMummy, there’s a GLOWkid!’

You have bought your Starter Pack andnow it is time to discover the key toyour own future prosperity. You areembarking on a business co-operationwith GLOW-inc.

Your Starter Pack is in two parts:

Part one, in which this Handbook is contained, haseverything you need to start your successful GLOW-incbusiness.

Part two, you get to specify and order yourself using the 200 GLOW credits (worth £200) that you have beenassigned. So have fun ordering samples in sizes you want.Part two will be delivered at, or immediately after, you havesuccessfully completed the initial training. To make themost of it, go through your sales aids and learn whateverything is designed to do. You will learn how GLOW-incwas founded, what we stand for and discover all about theproducts, what they are made from, sizes, prices etc.

This Handbook will assist you. We suggest you take thetime to read it thoroughly and always keep it as a referenceas your business develops. It offers you some great tipsand advice, that have been tried and tested. So, all youhave to do is put these into practice, and you will quicklygain the confidence to achieve your goals.

As part of our commitment to you, we will offer you initialtraining in the first weeks of joining GLOW-inc. Uponsuccessfully completing the initial training, you will receivethe second part of the starter kit – Part two. This containsthe product samples you have chosen and ordered usingthe 200 GLOW credits, to get your business started.

There will also be frequent Branch Meetings conducted bythe High GLOWmums, plus our on-going help and supportfrom the website, from Head Office and via CompanyTraining Events.

Direct Customer OrdersWith online shopping now becoming ever more popular,one or more of your customers may well place ordersdirectly on GLOW-inc website and consumer shop-front.These are defined as referral sales. (See Terms andConditions.) Encourage all your customers to know yourGLOWmum I.D. number.

So long as they quote your personal I.D. number GLOW-inc will give you the commission of half your retailbonus with 50% of the RRP value (net of P&P, VAT, etc.)going towards any personal and team goals and bonuses.

GLOW-inc will use all reasonable endeavours always toassign a GLOWmum to a referral order from a UKcustomer. The system will look up a list of GLOWmumswithin a prescribed radius of their postcode and assignthat order to the most active GLOWmum within thatradius. The radius currently used is five miles.

Again, these GLOWmums will receive 50% of theirdiscount, commission and bonus entitlement and becredited with 50% of the value of their customers weborder against their personal and team goals.

Your Customer’s RecordsIt is important for you to keep customer records,particularly as your business grows. However, please beaware of the restrictions enforced by the Data ProtectionAct and how it might apply to you.

You will have the opportunity to build up a businessrelationship by servicing your customer needs with repeatorders.

By building a link with your customers, you can keep themupdated with new products, special offers and incentivesalong with the opportunity to book another party or evenbecome a GLOWmum themselves.

However, all records must be kept securely. So, if you keepdetails on your home PC, make sure that they are under adifferent log-in and that access requires a password. If inpaper form, make sure that you lock them away securely.

To emphasise this point, by implication, you have details ofwhere children live – and you will no doubt be totally awarehow sensitive such information is in today’s world. Pleasebe very careful with customer records.

We suggest you keep ONLY the following details:

- Customer’s Name and Address- Home Number- Mobile Number- Email address - Products Ordered- Date of Order

It is extremely important that you shred your copy of thecustomer Order Form once you have delivered the orders,or lock them away so no member of the household hasaccess to such important information with regards tocredit/debit card numbers etc.

Refer to Keeping Customer Records and Data Protectionfurther on in this Handbook.

The GLOW-inc copy of a customer’s order should be sentto GLOW-inc.

Important:Under no circumstance should you ever try to re-use the credit or debit card information your customer hasprovided for you. Your customer must complete a neworder form and provide you with a signature forauthorisation each and every time they place an order with you, even if it is by telephone, where you need thethree-digit security code shown on the signature strip onthe back of the card.

Delivery ChargesFor orders up to £150 of commissionable products,postage and packing will be £6.

For orders that have a mixture of commissionable and non commissionable goods and are above £150, as longas they are ordered together, they will be shipped to youFree of Charge.

All orders over £150 of commissionable products will beshipped to you Free of Charge.

If you have qualified by sales of £400 in each of the threecalendar months of a quarter, you would also earn the2.5% GLOW Consistency Bonus on your personal sales.NOTE: The HGM with £1,500 CTS is in her grace periodfollowing the promotion of the HGM beneath her.

The third level of Leadership Bonus (LB3) is only paidwhen you have an active width of four other leadership-qualified High GLOWmums, plus group sales (GS) of£16,000. The HGMs do not have to be in the 1stGeneration but must be in separate legs.

Leadership Bonuses are subject to and paid under asystem called Compression. This means that successivegenerations who are not leadership-qualified are rolled upto the next highest leadership-qualified High GLOWmum.This is good for you and increases your earnings potential,so try to take the time to understand it.
