CAROL VERNALLIS THEORY

In relation to ‘Season of the Witch’

EDITING

Carol Vernallis theory states that music videos are cut to the beat and actions are rarely completed and a story is suggested but not given in full. We believe that this part of the theory doesn’t apply to our music video.

We made a conceptual music video without a story. However in parts of the video we did cut to the beat to make the video and visual go along with each other. Cosmo was the main focus but by adding the objects we had different shots to break up the static and long shots of Cosmo.

TYPES OF CAMERA SHOT

Carol Vernallis’s theory states that many video’s feature extreme high and low angle shots, canted or tilted shots, long tracking shots and unusual pans & tilts. Our video only featured a few of these shots.

We focused heavily on the artist and the strange retro objects. We used some of the mentioned shots to present these. We used a lot of angled shots of Cosmo the artist and used strange pans and tilts for the strange objects. We used this to go with the theme of the song and it worked well in the sequence.

IMAGE OF THE ARTIST

Carol Vernallis’s theory states that most shots are fast with no time for consumer thought. Close-ups of the artist give the consumer something to focus on which is memorable.

The image of our artist is very strong and occurs throughout the video. We do use many fast shots of strange objects and then long close ups of Cosmo the artist. This goes with Carol Vernallis Theory. The theory also goes on about breaking the forth wall which is arguably present in our music video as there are many long shots of George facing the camera looking at the audience.
