Na ‘n berig van ‘n dagblad oor ‘n ge-heimsinnige man met ‘n gerimpeldevoorkop wat vir kilometers saam met‘n man gery het, het die Herald met ver-skeie ou inwoners van Fochville ge-praat oor wie die geheimsinnige mens,wat nie tot rus kan kom nie, kan wees.Verskeie stories van spoke naby diekruising op die Johannesburg/Potchef-stroom-pad naby Fochville word vertel.Die een “spook” wat al sedert 1948 ge-sien is, staan bekend as die “Lady of then night”. Verskeie mense in die omge-wing, waaronder ‘n predikant van Car-letonville, het al dié vrou met die langblonde hare en bloedbesmeerde klereopgelaai.

Schwartz (36), who tragically chokedto death, was found by a Telkom em-ployee in Palladium Street in Carleton-ville. The Telkom employee noticed aman in a blue 3 litre Ford Granada andthought he was asleep. Upon his returnfrom a nearby office a while later, hissuspicions were aroused and he at-tempted to wake Mr Schwartz. MrSchwartz was lying on his stomachwith his feet on the driver’s seat and theupper part of his body on the floor. Ac-cording to his brother the deceasedwas an epileptic, but last had a seizurea year-and-a-half ago. He said that toavoid injury, his brother always remo-ved his spectacles and watch if he feltan attack coming on, which was howthe police discovered him. A post mor-tem revealed that Mr Schwartz chokedto death on a piece of chicken.

Valerie and Paul Jansen van Vuurenare saying goodbye to Carletonvillenext week after decades of staying inthe town.

“On 1 April this year we would havestayed in the town for 56 years,” ValerieJansen van Vuuren told the Herald onMonday.

Both she and her husband grew upin the town and completed their schoolcareers there. In April 1959 they tookover Antonica Photos from Valerie’s pa-rents, Pat and Dennis Scrooby, whohad owned it since 1959. Valerie andPaul ran the business until it was clo-sed in 2013.

Valerie was also well-known in thearea for being a DA councillor from

2006 to 2013. She has also been invol-ved in various welfare and other acti-ons during the years and was an activemember of the Carletonville branch ofthe Vroue Landbou Unie (VLU).

They will be leaving Carletonvillewith their three dogs and five cats forHermanus on 17 February.

“I will not miss the town as it is notwhat it used to be, but I will certainlymiss its people. Carletonville showedme again and again that it has many pe-ople who really care about others,”Vansen Van Vuuren told the Herald onMonday. The new house to which theJansen van Vuuren’s will be movingwas named “Chillville” by its previousowners. This has special significancefor Valerie as her late son, Jason, whowas killed in a hijacking in 2012, appa-

rently always told her to “chill”.“I just want to thank the community

for everything that they did for us du-ring the years and I especially want to

thank “Ds Toit” and “Ds Steyn” as wellas our neighbours the Janekes and DrJacobson and his wife,” Jansen vanVuuren concluded.

A legal official in Carletonville is cur-rently out on bail on serious cases offraud.The managing officer of the Office of

the Sheriff in Carletonville, Ms. CeciliaBezuidenhout was arrested for thefirst time on 24 October last year forapparently committing fraud. TheSheriff ’s Board was the complainantsince Bezuidenhout had committedthe alleged fraud at the Sheriff ’s office.The town’s sheriff conducted an in-

spection of the offices to verify the pa-perwork and it came to light that therewere allegedly fraudulent transactionstaking place at the office.Bezuidenhoutwas arrested again on

the 4 November 2014 and the bailagainst her was denied on pending in-

vestigation.She was then held in police custody

for eight days before appearing incourt on 12 November. She was gran-ted R50 000 bail. Since then she hasbeen appearing incourt once amonth and thereare three morecases of fraudwhich have beenopened againsther currently. Allcases allegedlyadd up to anenormousamount whichcannot be disclo-sed by the policesince Bezuiden-hout’s case has

not been closed by the court.Police members with whom the He-

rald spoke indicated his case of fraudmay be transferred to the CommercialCourt because the amount of money

involved is beyond the jurisdiction ofthe Magistrate.However, the Senior Advocate in the

case will ultimately make this decisi-on.

ferred to the Baragwanath Hospitalafter sustaining serious injuries toher legs.The young couple was sadly infor-

medby the police on23January thatthe child had passed away.The cause of the young girl’s death

has not been disclosed.Anna was buried on 4 February at

Several mining companies in the areaare currently busy with legal battlesagainst the municipality.In the report of the Auditor-General

(AG) thatwasbeforecouncil on28Janu-ary, the AGmade note of the fact that themunicipality is currently the defendantin carious court cases.“The ultimate outcome of these mat-

ters cannot presently be determined,and no provision for any liability thatmay result has beenmade in the financi-al statements,” the AG noted.Related to this, theHerald recently he-

ard that mining companies in the areaare busy with a legal battle over moniesthat they owe the Merafong City Local

Municipality. When the newspaper ma-de enquiries about the matter on Tues-day, themunicipality acknowledged thatthere are problems and indicated thatthe matter concerns the valuation ofproperty,“It is correct that the Mining Compa-

nies, Anglogold, AngloAsanti and Siba-nye in Merafong City took the valuationof theirproperties in themunicipal area,as contained in the 2012 Valuation Rollof Council, to the Valuation Board forappeal. The Valuation Board found thatthe properties were over-valuated basedon the facts presented by the compa-nies,” amunicipal spokesperson indica-ted on Tuesday.“Council is however taking thematter

on review, since it feels that the Valuati-

on Board did not take all matters in thecase into consideration.“Valuation Rolls are not done by

Council, but by a professional valuatorcompany, that is appointed by Councilto compileavaluationroll in termsof theMunicipal Property Rates Act (No. 6 of2004) Thematter is therefore not amat-ter of overchargingbyCouncil, but of themethodsof valuationusedby theprofes-sional valuators. Since the case will betaken on review Council would not wantto reveal too much information on thematter at this stage,” the spokespersonindicated.The newspaper also came across in-

formation that in another, unrelated,court case involving the municipalityand amining house, AngloGoldAshanti

(AGA) is busy with a legal battle againstthe municipality over the charges leviedby the municipality for water sold to themine.Although theMerafong City LocalMu-

nicipality is listedas the first respondentin the case, Rand Water is the secondrespondentand theMinisterofWaterAf-fairs and Forestry the third respondent.Although Judge EM Kubushi already

ruled against the municipality on 26 Fe-bruary 2014, AGA indicated last weekthat the case has still not been finalised.“As the matter is still before the

courts, we would prefer to let the legalprocess run its course before makingany comments on the issue,” AGA’s spo-kesman, Mr Chris Nthite, told the He-rald last week.

A brick-laying and plumbing projectcommenced on 2 February at the Khuts-ong Hall.

The project is facilitated by Thato En-

tle Training projects and co-ordinatedby Lerato Masipa. It was issued by theDepartment of Public Works to upliftcommunities in which certain regionswereselected for theprojects to takepla-ce for three years. The duration of the

course is fivedays,which involves25pe-ople (male and female) from the Khuts-ong community. The group is divided toattend theory and practical sessions tocomplete the course and there will alsobe a secondpart of the training. Thepro-

ject is for Community Work Programme(CWP) participants only since they arethe organisers of these projects. Theywere called in and interviewed on whatthey would like to do and the traineeswere selected based on their responses

Imagination is a part of us and allowsus to escape from reality.

It also gives roomtobecomecreati-ve and explore new things. Most peo-ple do not let their minds reach theirfull potential; by not using their thin-king to thebest of their abilities, suchpeople become limited.

Manydonot realise that everythingstarts from within—and I believe onecan never achieve anything withoutactually thinking of it first; as it isusually said, “It all starts from themind” or “You can achieve whateveryou put your mind to”. Such sayingsmay seem far-fetched until they areapplied in life.

I feel that we as people are morepowerful than we know, and it is be-

cause of this lack of knowledge we failto use our abilities. Sometimes you ha-ve to let yourself free so that you canthink big and out of the box.

Our thoughts can become a reality asmuch as our words; and sometimesyou have to be aware of how you let yo-urself down just by negative thinking.This is quite a sad case for many becau-se theywill never get to realisehowtheirthinking shapes or impacts their every-day life and progress. For people to be-come free-thinkers they have to allowtheir imagination to run wild—but ithas come to my attention that when youare a person whose imagination hasbeen unlocked, others may deem youto be “strange” or they may even labelyou as “crazy”. Such people are thosewho cannot think beyond the presentspace; and that is why it is important

to stay away from people who are notaligned with your goals and mind-setbecause they will hinder your progress.

Many of our modern-day civilizati-ons were developed through imaginati-on, and some of those inventors had tosurpass all sort of critics for them tocreate something, which has made lifeeasier for mankind.

Sometimes when you have great ide-as you may think that they are useless,but sometimes “stupidity inspires in-telligence” in a sense that even some theworst ideas can become the best whenapplied practically.

Moreover, I believe that creativity hasno boundaries and people should ne-ver let this part of themselves passaway because that is where your happi-ness begins.

freely youcan disco-ver howbeautifulit is to behumanbecause ofthe unli-mited abi-lity ourCreator has granted us.

We are here to create as well as buildnew things to make life better for ourfellow brothers and sisters — and it allstarts with imagination. This week the municipality indicatedthat groundmovement, andnot ablun-der by contractors, was the reason forthe huge sewage leakages in Khutsong.The Herald recently reported that

people staying in various houses inKhutsong Exten-sion 3 had a diffi-cult time becauseof huge amountsof sewage leakinginto their yards.At the time, the

municipality indi-cated that con-tractors buildinga new road toHlanganani Pri-mary School da-maged the pipeli-ne and is in theprocess of repair.However, owing

to the immensesewage leakages, which can still be se-en in the area, the newspaper askedthe municipality for clarity.“As soon as the repairs have been af-

fected the situation will be normali-

sed,” the municipality indicated.Last week, people using the road to

the Khutsong Extension 3 Clinic com-plained that half of the road was over-flowing with sewage. This road is oneof only two tar roads in Khutsong Ex-tension 3.When the Herald visited the site, a

huge amount ofsewage was lea-king onto the ro-ad. The origin ofthe leak camefrom an area inthe street directlyacross a nurseryschool. Thestench in the airwas so foul thatmany people hadto cover theirfaces. So muchsewage was lea-king onto the ro-ad that vehiclesdrove only on the

side of the road that was not coveredwith human waste. Parents walking onthe pavement had to lift their childrenover the waste. The sewage streameddown the road and disappeared into a

storm-water drainage pipe about 400metres from where it streamed out. Asa result of the ongoing problems, thenewspaper asked the municipalityagain for clarity on thematter. “It cameto light during the investigation thatthe damage is the result of furtherground movement in the area, and notas previously thought a result of the ro-

This week the problems at the Mera-fong City Local Municipality’s KokosiSewerage Plant have still not been re-solved.Havoc broke out at the sewerage

works several weeks ago when pumpsapparently broke. Municipal officialsat the scene indicated that the pro-blems had started on 15 January.At the time the strong smell of raw

sewage hung in the air close to the faci-lity, which is situated in the veld nextto Kokosi. A strong stream of sewagenot only overflowed equipment at thepump station adjacent to the sewageworks, but a stream of sewage also flo-wed into the veld towards the Loop-spruit. Cattle, presumably belonging toresidents of the area, grazed next to thestreaming sewage while dogs seemedto be eating the waste.When the Herald revisited the scene

on Friday, even more sewage could beseen streaming towards the Loop-spruit than previously. This stream le-ads throughmany rural areas in whichpeople and animals may drink the pol-luted water from the Klipdrift Dam ne-ar Potchefstroom, which is also fre-

quented by anglers from several areas.A national daily newspaper also re-

ported about the matter on Monday.As a result of the ongoing problems,

the Herald also contacted two officialsof theNationalDepartment ofWater Af-fairs, Marius Keet and Bashan Goven-der, to find out if the department hadbeen notified of the spillages and whatit was doing to assist in the matter. Ho-wever, at the time of the newspapergoing to print, no response from thede-partment had been received.The newspaper also again contacted

the municipality for their response.“The municipality had a problem at

the new Kokosi sewerage works due tothe fact that the raw pumps failed. Thisoccurred on 15 January 2015.“The request to deviate from the pro-

curement process to address this ur-gent issue was approved on the sameday and the contractors were on site at21:00 on the same day to address theissue. It was then determined that thenon-return valves also required repair,which prolonged the fixing of the pumpstation.“On Friday, 30 January, the repair

was completed, but when the pumpsump was emptied, it was discoveredthat the sump was full of grot, whichneeded removal prior to recommissio-ning the pump station. This was at-tempted manually, but was unsucces-sful. Alternative measures are current-ly being pursued to clean the sump inorder to recommission,” a municipalspokesperson replied on Tuesday.“The spillage cannot be contained

since the works was not constructedwith an emergency dam. The sewagepasses through a series of shallow re-tention ponds, which allows for someevaporation and seepage. Unfortunate-ly the remaining effluent did reach the

Loopspruit. This was reported to theDepartment of Water Affairs, who visi-ted the site.“The Department has indicated the

actions which the municipality mustfollow.“This will be instituted and includes

a detailed pollution report, a remedia-tion plan of the affected site, upstreamand downstream water monitoring, arisk abatement plan, proof of coronati-on of pollution before entering of watersource and close out report,” thespokesperson concluded.

Theproblems at theMerafongCity Lo-cal Municipality seem to be gettingworse.

Last week the Herald reported thatthe Auditor-General (AG) found irre-gular expenditure at the municipality,which increased more than ten timesduring thepastmunicipal financial ye-ar. In themeantime, theMunicipality’sPublic Accounts Committee (MPAC)has also pointed out various deviati-onswith regard to stipulatedprocedu-res that must be followed to acquiretenders.

In the past the newspaper has re-portedonvarious servicedeliverypro-blems and forensic reports pointingout problems at the municipality. Alt-hough the municipality may have vari-ous excuses for service delivery pro-blems and may, in some ways, disputethe importance of smaller forensic in-vestigations, the AG’s report is an offi-cial indicationbyGovernment itself onhow the municipality’s handling of itstask toserve theMerafongpublic isde-

teriorating.Various other symptoms of the mu-

nicipality’s worsening service deliverycan also be seen. The fact that the Ko-kosi Sewerage Works, which handlesthe effluent of the whole Greater Foch-ville area, has not been functioning forweeks, is a clear sign that all is notwell. For the past few weeks, sewagefrom this facility has been leaking intothe Loopspruit, which flows to Pot-chefstroom.

In the meantime, a huge water pipenear Khutsong Extension 5 has alsobeen leaking huge amounts of watersince last year, but has yet to be repai-red. Not only is this water, which ispurchased by the municipality fromRand Water, being wasted but the lea-kage, can also lead to problems suchas sinkholes. In a worst case scenario,the whole pipeline can go down in asinkhole.

The police in Carletonville is loo-king for a person who can maybeassist them in a case where a cell-phone was stolen.

Apparently a braai took place on12 January at Carletonville wherethere where four people present.The complainant was apparentlyplaying the music and had left hisphone on a charger. After everyonehad packed and left the premiseslater on the night, the complainantrealized that his phone was mis-sing and it was nowhere else to befound. The complainant’s girl-friend noticed that there was diffe-rent profile picture on WhatsAppmessenger linking to the samenumber that was used by the com-plainant. There was an unidenti-fied man on the picture who wasnot present at the party. The policesuspect that the phone had beensold to the man on the picture andthe man is wanted by police to giveinformation regarding the case.

Despite the fact that the Auditor-Gene-ral (AG) recently reprimanded the mu-nicipality over its high water losses,thousands of litres of clean drinkingwater were this week still streamingfrom a pipeline.

“The municipality suffered signifi-cant water distribution losses of 5 508849 kilolitres with a value of R30 348113,” the AG noted in its report on themunicipality’s financial status for2013/14 laid before Council on 28 Ja-nuary. The AG’s report also noted thatthe loss represents 41.79% of the totalof water distributed in Merafong. Thepast year’s losses were also significant-ly higher than the 4 630 645 kilolitreswith a value of R23 229 018, which was38,90 % of the total percentage of waterdistributed, lost during the 2012/13municipal financial year.

Despite the fact that the municipalitywas reprimanded over such water los-ses, a huge leak in the main water sup-ply line to Khutsong Extension 5 hasstill not been attended to.

The Herald reported toward the endof last year that mountain bikers hadnoticed water leaking from the pipelinefrom November. When the Herald follo-wed the matter up last month, a munici-pal spokesperson indicated that the pi-peline consists of a special materialknown as “HDPE”, which can only berepaired by a specialist plumbing servi-ce provider that can do HDPE welding.

“Council has embarked on a procure-ment process to appoint service provi-ders on a contract basis that has thecorrect equipment and skills. There isan emergency bypass line that is cur-rently being used to supply water to

consumers. It does not have a detri-mental effect on the water supply of thearea. Temporary reparations will bedone on the pipe during this week, whe-re after the bid evaluation and adjudi-cation processes will dictate when theservice provider will be appointed,” thespokesperson indicated on 6 January.

Despite this promise, water was stillstreaming from the pipeline on Mon-day. Some of the water also sprayed in-to the air. So much water had leakedfrom the pipeline that what seemed likea green marchland had formed for upto several hundreds of meters from thepipeline. In this area the ground is con-tinually wet and muddy while grass andweeds have grown tall and green as aresult of the excess water.

Geologists and other experts havewarned in the past that large amountsof water leaking in dolomitic areas,

such as where the pipeline is situated,can lead to the forming of sinkholes.

The leaking pipeline was completedin 2013.

When the Herald asked questionsabout the matter to the Merafong CityLocal Municipality earlier this year, themunicipality indicated that the pipe inquestions consists of a material knownas HDPE, and needs a specialist plum-bing service provider to do HDPE wel-ding.

“Council has embarked on a procure-ment process to appoint service provi-ders on a contract basis that has thecorrect equipment and skills., no res-ponse was received by the time of thenewspaper going to print,” a municipalspokesperson replied. The municipali-ty said on Tuesday that it was still busysourcing a company to undertake therepair.

A security guard reported that vio-lence broke out while they were patrol-ling Blyvoor. on 26 January They werenotified of trouble by their control unitand called to assist at the water plant.The complainant and his crew alleged-ly went to the scene and found the gateclosed. A new team of car watchers hasbeen appointed and allocated at dif-ferent positions around Carletonvil-le.

They operate under the commandof Colonel Abel Gaza who initiatedthe operation, which is an initiativeto encourage the community towork with the SAPS against crime.

The new team of car watchers fallsunder the Community Police Forum(CPF). They operate at their office inOberholzer and they are posted tovarious spots around town.

They are also commanded not tochange their positions so that peopleare able to recognise them.

The team started operating at theend of 2014 and it is a crime-preventi-on method since the crime in Carle-tonville has increased.

The initiative is used as a second eyefor the police to inform them of crimi-nal activities that take place aroundtown.

The initiative is meant to help thepolice as well as the guards, as theyare also able to make a living by wat-ching people’s cars and receivingtips.

According to Ms. Thabiya Moletsane, who staysin Pajane Street in Khutsong, her house was da-maged on 1 January after branches from a largetree in the yard of her neighbours broke off andfell on it. The branches broke some of the rooftiles.

In the meantime, roots from the same tree isalso pushing up into the family’s yard and house.The Moletsane family and other neighbours arealso afraid that the large tree may sometime fallover and hit on the houses.

The neighbour is which yard the tree is situa-ted, Ms Martha Morite, is a 79-year-old pensioner.Morite and her neighbours have asked the Mera-

fong City Local Municipality for assistance in thismatter. They were, however, told by officials that,as the tree is in her yard, they are not responsiblefor it.

According to Morite she doesn’t have money tohireprivate people to remove the tree and is afraidthat itmight evendamageherownhouse.Shealsoindicated that the tree was already in the yardwhen she originally got the stand from the munici-pality, and for this reason believe that they shouldassist in the matter.

When the Herald contacted the Merafong CityMunicipality about the matter, the spokespersonindicated that although the removal of such a treeis a private matter, it would try to assist a pensio-ner such as Ms Morite. At the time of the newspa-per going to print the municipality was still loo-king intoways inwhich the tree couldbe removed.

Wes Wits Rugbyklub nooi spelers vandie gebied om by die klub aan te sluit.

Volgens die klub se voorsitter, Bar-ney de Koker, is die klub reeds hardaan die gang om hulle vir die nuwe jaarvoor te berei. Oefeninge het reeds op 3Februarie begin en alles is in plek omvanjaar ‘n suksesvolle jaar vir die klubse spanne te maak.

“Ons nooi almal uit na ons oefeningewat Dinsdae en Donderdae van 18:00op Wes Wits se velde plaasvind. Ons hetreeds ‘n goeie opkoms, maar alle nuwespelers is ook welkom,” het De KokerDinsdag aan die Herald gesê.

Die eerste ligawedstryd sal op 11April teen Johannesburg Polisie op diepolisie se velde plaasvind. Mense watmeer van die klub se aktiwiteite wilweet, kan De Koker by 082 854 7022skakel.

Fochville Hoërskool het verlede Vrydagverskeie ander skole tydens ‘n groot at-letiekbyeenkoms in die stof laat byt.

Dié hoërskool het dié dag die ses-sko-le byeenkoms op hul velde aangebied.Die splinternuwe Fochville SecondarySchool, Hoërskool Ferdinand Postmavan Potchefstroom, Hoërskool Jan Vil-joen en Hoërskool Riebeeckrand vanRandfontein en Carel de Wet TegnieseHoërskool van Vanderbijlpark het aandie byeenkoms deelgeneem.

Fochville Hoërskool het met ‘n totaalvan 387 punte as wenners van die krag-meting uit die stryd getree. Carel De Wetwas tweede, Riebeeckrand derde, Ferdi-nand Potsma vierde, Jan Viljoen vyfdeen Fochville Secondary School sesde.

“Die byeenkoms was ‘n groot suksesen die toeskouers kon ’n fees van top ge-halte atletiek geniet,” sê ‘n woordvoer-der van Fochville Hoërskool, mnr. Jur-gens Bence. Atlete van Fochville SecondarySchool, wat vanjaar vir die eerste keersy deure geopen het, het ’n totaal vandrie goue-, vier silwer- en twee bronsmedaljes ingesamel.Volgens mev. RonelLampbrecht, hoof van Hoërskool Foch-ville, was die byeenkoms ‘n groot suk-ses. Dit was ook goeie voorbereiding virdie Interhoër wat Vrydag by HoërskoolFochville aangebied word. Verskeie swemmers van die Carleton-ville Swemklub het die afgelope na-week aan die jaarlikse Midmar Myldeelgeneem.

Dié kompetisie, wat vanjaar vir die42ste keer aangebied is, het aan dui-sende swemmers van regoor die wê-reld die geleentheid gegee om hul ver-moë in die water te toets. Die MidmarMyl is die wêreld se grootste oopwater-swemkompetisie.

Volgens een van Carletonville swem-klub se lede, Annalisa Freese, was diebyeenkoms iets wat sy nie sommer salvergeet nie.

“Die organisering was werklik puikmet die aantal mense wat hulle moesreguleer en dit ‘n sukses te maak. Diegees was tasbaar, opgewondenheid…die afwagting... mens kon nie genoegdaarvan indrink nie,” het sy Dinsdagaan die Herald vertel.

Saterdag se kragmeting was ‘n groepswem waaraan groepe van byvoor-beeld maatskappye, skole en klubskon deelneem. Volgens Freese is deel-nemers in voertuie na die beginpuntgeneem, waarna hulle die 1.6 km reg-uit tot by die eindpunt geswem het.Veelkleurige boeie het nie net dieswemmers op koers gehou nie, maarook vir swemmers aangedui hoe verhul al geswem het.

“Ons het almal om 12:15 in groep4 weggespring. Daar is bietjie opge-warm voor die tyd, of kom ons sê lie-wers speel in die water, en is daar lek-ker geskerts en gelag en het dit die se-nuwees op wag gehou,” vertel Freese.Sy het bygevoeg dat swemmers ingroepe ingedeel is volgens die getalkwalifiserende kompetisies waaraanhulle voorheen deelgeneem het. Ver-dere indelings, waartydens swemmersverskeie kleure kappies gegee is, isvolgens tyd gedoen en al die groepe hetdrie minute uit mekaar weggespring.Om veiligheidsredes het sommigeswemmers met spesiale oranje boeie,wat aan hul middellywe vasgemaak is,geswem. Dit was nie om hulle bo tehou nie, maar om ander swemmerswat dalk in die moeilikheid kan be-land, te help. Julian Rheeder was Car-letonville se verteenwoordiger wat ‘nboei gesleep het en hy het reeds voordie tyd daarmee geoefen.

(44:14), Julian Rhee-der (44:34), Sharlene van Niekerk(43:00) en Tiaan Wolfaardt (43:13).

“Die wind het aansienlik voor diewedren al erg opgesteek en het ons gol-we beleef wat ons nog nie vantevore be-leef het nie. Dit was nogal oorweldi-gend, want jy swem nog en dan voel

dit die volgende oomblik of jy val. Jymoes jou tydsberekening goed bere-ken het om in jou pas jou baken te konsien sonder om op te kom vir bors-slag,” vertel Freese.

Hoewel Sondag ‘n lieflike sonskyn-dag sonder wind was, het die deelne-mers se senuwees, volgens Freese, er-ger geknaag. Die groep swemmers wasegter “soos een groot familie” en almalhet die spanning op allerlei prettigewyses verwerk.

Die tye van deelnemers in die klasvir meisies van 13 jaar en jonger en

vroue van 31 jaar en ouer, wat reedsom 08:00 weggespring het, was Chri-zelle Velloen (37:53), Annalisa Freese(34:55), Bianca Janeke (34:46), Cait-lin Doran (34:45) en Sharlene van Nie-kerk (34:04).

Die tye van deelnemers in die afde-ling vir seuns van 13 jaar en onder enmans van 31 jaar en ouer was GerrieGrove Sr (41:23), Carsten Holfelder(33:23), Gerrie Grove jr. (40:12), Di-wan Wolfaardt (34:06) en Tiaan Wol-faardt (37:59).

“Almal het hulself oortref en dit was‘n suksesvolle dag vir almal, ons hetso trots gevoel en het Carletonville senaam beslis hoog gehou.

“Ons dank Oom Gerrie vir sy toewy-ding en alles wat hy vir ons doen,” hetFreese na afloop van die naweek se by-eenkoms gesê.

Swemmers durfMidmar aan

Deelnemers van regoor die wêreld het aanverlede naweek se Midmar Myl deelge-neem.

Die swemmers wat die klub tydens Saterdag se spankompetisie verteenwoordig het.

Tammy vanNiekerkwas die enigste klublidwat in die afdeling vir vroue tussen 14 en30 jaar oud deelgeneem het.

Dié vroue- en meisies swemmers het Sondag hul staal gewys. Hulle is Sharlene vanNiekerk, Caitlin Doran, Bianca Janeke, Chrizelle Velloen en Annalisa Freese.

Christiaan LouwenMarkusHomanhet ookas deel van die laaste groep wat Saterdagweggespring het met medaljes tydens hulklas weggeswem.

Die mans- en seuns swemmers wat Son-dag hul staal gewys het, was voor GerrieGrove sr., Diwan Wolfaardt en Tiaan Wol-faardt. Agter is Gerrie Grove jr. en CarstenHolfelder.
