Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank You Morning Tea

On behalf of the students and staff of Carlton Public School I’d like to express my thanks and gratitude to all of our volunteers for

2016. We held a special Thank You Morning Tea on Wednesday to celebrate the valuable contributions our school volunteers

have made this year. This includes all of the amazing parent helpers who have given up much of their time to help out during

excursions, camps, home reading, many classroom activities and the B.E.A.R reading program. The staff and students have

benefitted so much from your support. I also would like to thank our fabulous scripture teachers who volunteer their time each

week to teach our students wonderful lessons. Thank you also to the terrific volunteers through the Kids Hope Foundation

whose support to our students has been greatly received. I also thank our wonderful P&C and all the parents who are a part of

this great committee. Once again, their contribution to our school has been simply wonderful. We appreciate their dedication to

helping provide our students with the best experiences.

We are very much looking forward to a great 2016. Thank you so much everyone.

Christmas Giving Tree and Food Collection

It is tradition at our school to have a special Christmas Tree in the school office foyer. The reason our tree is “SPECIAL”, is because we put presents under the tree and ask the Salvation Army to collect them and distribute the gifts to the families who may not be able to have the Christmas they would like, because of their financial and family situations.

We ask that all children look at home for toys they no longer play with-which are still in very good condition. Perhaps they could buy a new toy with their pocket money for these needy children.

The gift should be wrapped in Christmas paper and labelled "boy" or "girl" and the age of the child it would be suitable for.

We are also asking for donations of tinned and non-perishable food, to be passed onto the Salvation Army who will also distribute these to families who have limited food in their houses over the Christmas period. Please check the date on the food before you bring it to school.

Every child who brings in a gift present or tinned food product will be given a star with their name on it, and this will be placed on the tree. The collection will close on Wednesday, 14 December, 2016, and the children will be able to keep their own stars.

Thank you in advance for your generosity, Mrs. Z. Mihajlova

P &C News Art Show Gelato stand What a great turn out to the Art Exhibition, and a fantastic response to the Gelato Cart. It even got a bit hectic. Hope the lines weren’t too long and that everyone got to have their favourite flavour.

I would like to thank the volunteers Jeanne, Mel, Sharon, Kerri, Garth, Vic and Phil who helped on the stand and for operating like a well-oiled machine and also to Kelly who organised the cart. We raised about $1200 towards the building of a shaded area.

I would like to say, however, that without these volunteers, great events like last night cannot be run. Please consider giving up an hour of your time at one of next year’s events to make it a success and to share the load.

CHANGE TO P&C MEETING SCHEDULE FOR NEXT YEAR In the last P&C meeting it was suggested that we change the P&C meeting schedule FROM the second Tuesday of each month to the TUESDAY in the 3

RD AND 7

TH WEEK OF EACH TERM. This will avoid the P&C meeting falling on the school holidays. Please let

me know if you have any concerns with the change to the timing.

If you would like to get in touch at any time, please contact the P&C by email at: [email protected].

Richard Jones – P&C President

School Banking This week was the last week for school banking for the year. I’d like to thank all of our great volunteers. In order for this program to continue in 2017, we urgently need more volunteers. If you are able to volunteer every third Tuesday, please contact me on: [email protected] The rewards which were redeemed this week will hopefully arrive in the next week or two.

Attention Mums, Dads, Grandmas, Grandpas and other friends of Carlton Public School

Carlton Kids Mentors For the last 2 years Carlton Public School has been involved in a Mentoring program with KidsHope, an organisation run by

World Vision. As this has been a fantastic success, the staff at Carlton Public School have decided to run this program

independently. This means that we are looking for caring and supportive adults who would be keen to give up one hour a week

to spend time with a student who would benefit from their advice, fun and friendship.

Each volunteer is matched with a student who they would work with once a week for one hour. Students and their mentors have

done many different activities such as reading books in the library, playing basketball in the playground, cooking or just drawing.

The benefit to the student is a valuable supportive friend who they can rely upon to be there for them each week. The volunteer

feels great because they are spending quality time with a great little person and having fun while making an important difference

to the student’s self-esteem and confidence.

All training will be provided to our volunteers and staff will be available to help with activity ideas, communication and advice.

All we need is for you to say “Yes” and come along!

There are many Mentors in our current Carlton Public School community who can share their experiences with you and guide

you in the decision to become a mentor.

For further information please email Carlton Public School to the attention of Miss Morrison [email protected]

or by calling 9587-3717. Training will be arranged before we finish up for the year so I look forward to hearing from you as soon

as possible.

The Working With Children Check (WWCC) is a requirement for anyone who works or volunteers in child-related work in NSW. It

involves a National Police Check (criminal history record check) and a review of reportable workplace misconduct. As a volunteer

your WWCC is obtained without needing to pay a fee at Services NSW.

Please consider this very worthy activity as it really does make a difference,

Jenny Morrison- Carlton Kids Coordinator

Sports Presentation Assembly Friday, 9 December, 2016

A special sports presentation assembly will be held on Friday, 9 December, from 9:00am in the hall. It is an opportunity to

recognise Carlton’s sporting achievements for 2016 and for all PSSA team members to receive participation certificates. For each

PSSA team, one player has been selected to receive the Best & Fairest trophy and one player will receive the Most Improved

trophy. Parent invitations have been sent to those receiving special recognition trophies. Parents are welcome to attend the

assembly and sit on the seats behind Year 6 students under the COLA area. Thank you for your cooperation and encouragement

with sport at Carlton Public School. Mrs Hanley

THE CARLTON PUBLIC SCHOOL BAND NEEDS

YOU! This year has been brilliant for The Carlton Public School Band with many performance opportunities and fabulous fun each

week. The New Year will be here before we know it so it’s time to enrol for the band in 2017.

Join The Band

If you would like your child to learn a musical instrument and perform as part of our band in 2017 please ask them to see Mr

Omar or Miss Morrison for an expression of interest or email the school on [email protected]

Children from years 2-6 will be able to be members of the band in 2017, however, priority will be given to older students if

numbers become too large.

An afternoon information session will be held on the 8 December from 3pm in the Band Room where parents can fill in the

necessary paperwork and guarantee their spot in the band on their preferred instrument. Spaces will be limited this year so

come along to avoid missing out.

Please contact the school on [email protected] if you have any questions about band in 2017.
