checking if refreshment facilitiesare available and there is usuallyvery little administration work need-ed.

Becoming a group leader does notmean you have to know the subjectand teach it, the U3A is a shared-learning experience. In the U3Aeveryone teaches and everyonelearns.

If you were not at our Septembermeeting, you missed a real treatwhen our speaker told us the histo-ry of St. Pancras Station andshowed slides of ‘then and now’.I was amazed when I heard whatgoes on below ground level – theUnderground and rivers hiddenfrom view. A train trip to Londonwill never be the same again.

Brian Shield arranged our first NewMembers’ Meeting in September, and I was amazed at how manypeople turned up. It is hoped tohold these meetings every monthat the Willowbrook Club, when an-yone who has just joined, or any-one who thinks they may like tojoin, can meet with committeemembers for a friendly chat, as it isnot always possible to talk to allprospective and new members atthe main monthly meeting. Thankyou to the committee memberswho were there to pass on informa-tion about our U3A.

Do you have family, friends orneighbours who might be interest-ed in joining us? If so, please bringthem along to a main meeting andwe will make them welcome, orencourage them to go along to theNew Members’ Meetings that BrianShield is arranging.

All the members of the SteeringCommittee look forward to seeingyou at our main meeting on Thurs-day 18th October.

Enjoy the meetings - Enjoy thefriendship – Enjoy your U3A

Peacockswere wandering around thegrounds and became very friendlywith anyone who looked like theymay have food. In a private roomwe enjoyed a beautifullypresented selection ofsandwiches scones and cakes ona two tier cake stand. Discussion GroupThe September Discussion Grouphad a vigorous discussion aboutBritishness, Patriotism andDevolution. We seemed toconclude that Britishness is

constantly changing, particularlyculturally. We got a little boggeddown in attitudes to immigrationwhile recognising the benefits ofwidening our culture. Summing itup, the British are never happierthan when talking about otherpeople.

Music AppreciationGroupThe Music Appreciation Group isboldly going where no other musicgroups have gone before. We are attempting to cover allforms of recorded music to wideneveryone's appreciation.Individuals will bring in a piece ofmusic to be played and discussed.Initial interests appear to includeClassical, Opera, Jazz, Blues, Rock and fusions in between.Music can be from MP3, CD,Cassette, or Vinyl (Well - we've allbeen around for a while. No 8track cartridges though)
