Dear Colleagues, October was exciting and impacful with the inauguration of Club Asahi, conclusion of the 2-week Malaysia’s Own Oktoberfest activation, month long celebration of Malaysian International Gourmet Festival (MIGF) and the first series of ‘Halloween – The Beginning’ campaign, which was presented by Jägermeister and supported by Carlsberg. The “Club Asahi – Tokyo” was launched on 4 October, featuring Japan’s No. 1 DJ, Shinichi Osawa, Bass Agents and the CyberJapan dancers at the trendiest outlet in KL, Butter Factory. Approximately, 1000 partygoers attended this exclusive party. A Thirst for Great Oktoberfest Hour was held earlier on 4 October at RP, Saujana Hotel for employees to experience the Bavarian celebration. The weekend, 5-7 October, saw the culmination of the Malaysia’s Own Oktoberfest at 1-Utama Shopping Centre. Approximately 5,000 beer lovers were treated to scrumptious spread of authentic German cuisine with a selection of Bavarian beers Erdinger, Franziskaner and Lowenbrau and Malaysia’s most preferred beer brand, Carlsberg, on tap. The excitement continued to build up, as Where’s The Party? introduced mini versions of the party in Penang, Johor and KL from 12 and 19 October to entice consumers to participate in the 3 Nations 1 Epic Party on 10 November. On 18 October, a glamorous fashion show by Kronenbourg 1664 was held in conjunction with the Malaysian International Gourmet Festival – Style Rocks!. Kronenbourg 1664 and Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc were widely sampled by local celebrities and prominent figures in the fashion industry. The Carlsberg Gold Cup Challenge series concluded on 20 October 20.     Carlsberg presented mini Wheres the Party parties where consumers and fans were treated to a sneak preview of the actual WTP in Penang, Ipoh and Batu Pahat from 10 - 12 October.

    Unconventional, unique and ambiguous thats the cornerstone of Carlsbergs epic Wheres the Party events ever since its launch in Sweden. This global phenomenon has gained traction amongst music buffs that love a good party but have no clue where it is happening, who is performing or what to expect.

    This round, Carlsberg plays hosts to the third instalment of Wheres the Party featuring cutting edge staging, infectious vibes all with a Carlsberg twist. Geared to rattle the grounds for two days, Carlsbergs Wheres the Party series will see its best yet.

  • Carlsberg Malaysia concluded its Malaysias Own Oktoberfest 2012 with more than 5,000 consumers rocking and partying at the ultimate three-day marquee party held at the parking lot of One Utama Shopping Complex from 5 - 7 October. Huge marquees were set up and decorated with props to recreate the Bavarian-style atmosphere and ignite a carnival spirit replicating this rousing beer drinking festival known for its beers, sausages and stein-carrying, lederhosen-clad waitresses.

    Carlsberg, Malaysias most preferred beer; as well as three other famous authentic German brews, namely, Erdinger, Franziskaner and Lowenbrau were featured to give visitors a chance to enjoy the authentic beers traditionally consumed during the Oktoberfest.

    Visitors were entertained to the rhythmic sounds of the authentic Oom-pa-pah band from Germany. Keeping the momentum and spirits high were the Carlsberg ambassadors decked in dirndls and dancing the traditional chicken dance. Beer enthusiasts took home a free stein ceramic mug when they purchased beers at participating outlets. On the heels of last years glowing success, Carlsberg Malaysias Oktoberfest this year reached greater heights in terms of entertainment, food and hospitality.

  • RYAN JAMES won the final leg of the Carlsberg Gold Cup over 1600m at the Selangor Turf Club on 20 October.

    Ridden for the first time by Jose De Souza, it was the eighth career win for RYAN JAMES who picked up five wins in Singapore for trainer Stephen Gray. Since relocating to Malaysia, he has won three of six starts for trainer Richard Lines.

    The New Zealand seven-year-old was the champion in the Carlsberg Gold Challenge Series final race and earned a bonus of RM50,000 for his owner, St George Stable. It was given to the horse which has accumulated

    the highest points after the conclusion of the third leg.

    The races, partnered with Carlsberg Gold were a huge success, presenting a total of RM375,000 for the three Carlsberg Gold Challenge Series Legs in April, August and finally in October.

    The Japans No.1 beer, Asahi Super Drys Club Asahi event shook the grounds of Butter Factory, KL on 4 October with a superb party for sophisticated clubbers all over town. More than 1,000 party goers congregated for one magnificent night of neoteric experiences, stellar performancesby Japans finest and the endless flow of Asahi Super Dry.

    Glammed-up models strutted down the runway briefly turning Mandarin Orientals Sultan Lounge

    into a glamorous fashion show. Style Rocks! marks the mid-point of the Malaysia International Gourmet Festival, marrying the worlds of high-fashion and premium dining by bringing together celebrities and friends to celebrate great food with great style. The party was pumping till wee hours of the morning with free flow of beer from sponsor Carlsberg.

    Staying true to its promise of Igniting Possibilities, the guests were in complete awe as they entered the Club Asahi party. Captivating the minds of everyone who walked through, the tunnel walls were clad with astrophysical images that signified the transition from Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo city. Shifting the

    night into gear, DJs Base Agents, Shinichi Osawa and B.A.T.E. got the party off the ground with energetic beats. The ever

    sensual CyberJapan Dancers, dressed in show-stopping outfits, joined the music mavericks and performed eye popping moves.

  • The 2nd leg of Top Ten charity roadshow was the best one ever. A record-breaking funds of RM6.6 million was successfully raised for SMJK(C) Jit Sin, Seberang Prai Selatan on 26 October, exceeded the previous highest fund raised of RM6.35 million in 2004. Other roadshow, also glitzy and energised, worked their ways to achieve the targeted fund raise over RM22 million funds in its 2nd leg roadshow throughout nine concerts.

    Top Ten Roadshowreaches ultimate fund raised for 26 years

    The English Essentials Programme, a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative by Carlsberg Malaysia is in its second year. In 2011, a series of four trainings were held for teachers and as many as 100,000 English Essentials workbooks were distributed to more than 500 Tamil schools.

    English Essentials Programme 2012 which kicked off successfully

    in September has proven worthy for fellow teachers in three regions Perak, Selangor and Johor. All trainings received good and positive response from over 300 teachers participation.

    English teacher Amutha d/o Permal from SJK(T) Ladang Tebrau, JB commented, The training has inspired me and I hope it has inspired other teachers. Other teachers who were part of the training were agreeable and intend to share the great experience with their students.

    Carlsbergs 2012 charity golf tourney a real classic

    Enriching English programme for teachers concludes

    The Carlsberg Golf Classic was created as a platform for avid golfers to showcase their skill and passion, and at the same time help the needy. About 5,000 golfers took part in the 2012 Carlsberg Golf Classic, teeing off at 40 premier golf clubs nationwide, competing for prizes worth more than RM1 million.

    Carlsberg Malaysia reaffirmed its pledge to help the needy when it donated a total of RM48,000 to six charitable homes on 29 September, 6 October and 21 October during the tournament.

    Each beneficiaries received RM8,000; they were Pusat Jagaan Anak-Anak Yatim Waja, Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Mata Air Kehidupan, Good Samaritan Homes and Pusat Kebajikan Yesuvin Mahligai from Selangor while Persatuan Orang-Orang Pekak Tawau and Don Bosco Children Home Bundu Tuhan from Sabah.

  • Held at RP Saujana, Subang on 4 October, about 200 employees from Carlsberg Malaysia HQ enjoyed their outing during the Thirst for Great Oktoberfest Hour. Employees who followed the designated bus from the brewery to the venue were welcomed by the fun filled spirit of Oktoberfest, collecting their beer steins and hats along the way in.

    The GREAT Award was presented to six groups of employees for their best practices of the Winning Behaviours. The internal Oktoberfest was officially kicked off with a big prost (cheers in German) by the Management Team and a jovial round of Chicken Dance.

    There were loads of fun, laughter and beer steins clanking during the Oom-pa-pah band performance while employees enjoyed their authentic German dinner. Games such as Arm Wrestling rewarded Catherine Thong, National Sales Manager from Luen Heng F&B who won the ladies category and Alvin Yap, Draught Beer Services Manager from Carlsberg Malaysia. Sporting employees also participated in two rounds of the Chicken Dance, accompanied by the beautiful dirndl girls.

    Genuine Corporate AwardOn 27 September, Carlsberg Malaysia was awarded a special Genuine Corporate Award (GCA) 2012 from Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (MDTCC).

    Mr. Chan Sek Tai, Head of IT department represented to receive the award. The GCA program, which is supported by the MDTCC, recognises companies that respects intellectual property and promoting good corporate governance.
