… are harder than ever. … are dirt-resistant.

… are very easy to clean. … offer first-rate anti-reflective properties.

Today, only one in every three consumers buys lenses with an anti-reflective coating. But that’s considered a basic part of a good lens. Hard lenses are what patients are primarily interested in when they think about coatings. By putting the coating category in the right perspective, you can convert one in every two inquiries about an anti-reflective coating into a purchase.1

Hardness is considered most important – by ECPs and patients.

One international survey reports that people consider robustness to be the most important lens feature. Anti-reflective coating came in fifth!2 Eye care professionals (ECPs) agree: In another inter national survey, lens hardness topped the list of most important lens features.3

Boost your margins with ZEISS.

Unlock this market’s potential with the hardest ZEISS lenses ever with DuraVision® Platinum AR coating. They are more robust than other ZEISS lenses, dirt- resistant, easy to clean and feature first-rate anti-reflective properties. And this is exactly what patients want. It is made possible thanks to the ion-assisted compression within the lens coating’s multi-layer structure and the new blue reflex colour.

The new concept in detail.

The demands of everyday life call for hard, dirt-resistant lenses that are easy to clean. This is precisely why hard, anti-reflective lens coatings exist – but it needs to be said that the quality of these coatings can vary greatly.

What makes ZEISS lenses with DuraVision® Platinum AR coating different? These hard and light lenses are very robust, dirt-resistant and easy to clean while offering first-rate anti-reflective properties. An integrated system of coating layers densely packed using ion-assisted deposition results in a lens surface that is three times harder than the previous generation of hard anti-reflective (AR) coated plastic ZEISS lenses4 and 35% harder than AR coated mineral (glass) ZEISS lenses.5 ZEISS lenses with DuraVision® Platinum AR coating also have a more cosmetically pleasing, blue residual reflex colour that produces over 20% less luminous reflectance than conven tional green AR coated ZEISS lenses.6

7 out of every 10 consumers showed high to very high interest in hardness of lenses.1

See for yourself just how well ZEISS lenses perform.

1. Harder than ever.

Three separate tests demonstrate how hard these lenses really are.

Start with standards: excellent hardness.

SDWT (Standardised Dirt Wiping Test): passed with flying colours.

Performed very well in the Bayer test with a score of over 10.3

Following the measurement set-up as described in DIN ISO 14577 we used an indentation instrument to determine hardness in the depth range around 200 nanometers, the most critical range for visible scratches. We also measured the force needed to completely break the coating:

ȴ The hardness of the ZEISS lenses with DuraVision® Platinum AR coating is increased significantly in this range compared to the previous generation of AR coated ZEISS lenses.1

ȴ The force needed to break the coating is increased from 211 micro Newton to 316 micro Newton, showing that the DuraVision® Platinum AR coating is much more robust than the previous generation of AR coated ZEISS lenses.1

Since it’s essential to measure the hardness of the extremely thin layers, we used a high-resolution nano-indenter to detect both the hardness and the limit at which force the coating cracks.

This test simulates damage done by cleaning lenses with a dry cloth containing standardised and abrasive particles.

After 600 wipings with 4 kg of pressure, ZEISS lenses with DuraVision® Platinum AR coating show no visible scratches. Lenses with the previous generation of ZEISS AR coating are visibly scratched.2

The Bayer ratio compares stray light generated by scratches on the coated lens in comparison to a bare uncoated lens. To generate the scratches, the lenses are placed together in a pan with an abrasive sand-like substance and shaken 600 times. A high Bayer ratio indicates less measured stray light and therefore less severe damage of the lens surface.3

2. Dirt-resistant.

The fifth layer is the patented anti-static layer4 that conducts electricity away from the surface. This prevents the build-up of static electricity produced by wiping the lens surface. Therefore, dust and lint are not attracted to the lens surface, keeping the lenses cleaner, longer.

3. Very easy to clean.

The super-slick clean coat makes new ZEISS lenses with DuraVision® Platinum AR coating very easy to clean because it’s oleophobic (oil-repelling) and super-hydrophobic (water-repelling). This is measured by the contact angle of a water droplet on the lens surface. Lenses with high contact angles repel oil and water more effectively. So the higher the contact angle, the easier it is to clean the lens .

Without anti-static layer: Wiping the lens results in a significant build-up of static electricity on the lens surface, attracting dust and lint.

With anti-static layer: The build-up of static electricity on the lens surface after wiping is reduced by over 90%, reducing the accumulation of dust and lint.

Standard

ZEISS lenses with DuraVision® Platinum AR coating feature a new blue reflex color that is less noticeable and increases the luminous transmittance of the lens, resulting in even better vision for the wearer. And seven out of ten ECPs like the switch.2

Why does this standard green reflex distract wearers more than a blue one? Eyes are more sensitive to green light.

This produces a less clear looking lens in conventional AR coatings that have a greenish reflex.

4. First-rate anti-reflective properties.

New ZEISS lenses with DuraVision® Platinum AR coating demonstrate more than 20% less luminous reflectance than conventional green AR coated ZEISS lenses.1 The lower the luminous reflectance, the less wearers will be inconvenienced by glare and reflections.

The tradition of satisfaction.

ZEISS lenses are synonymous with quality. If, however, you’re not happy with your lenses for any reason, rest assured: there’s the ZEISS guarantee.

Trust in ZEISS.

We invented anti-reflective coatings back in 1935.

Precision since 1846:

ȴ The first man on the moon – photographed on July 20, 1969 using ZEISS camera lenses. ȴ Google Earth uses ZEISS precision camera lenses on board practically all planes to obtain spectacular images of the earth. ȴ ZEISS microscopes help Nobel Prize winners make red blood cells visible. ȴ ZEISS camera lenses play an important role for directors and camera crews in Hollywood.

Improved vision means precise vision. The name ZEISS has stood for this principle over 160 years. ZEISS guarantees the ultimate in lens precision in every finished lens with an engraved . This symbol of quality proves that your individual lens contains the same competence that has turned Carl Zeiss into a pioneer in several fields of optics. And, of course, the engraved does not impairyour field of vision in any way.
