Discussion Discussion

- Seung asked about the small number of parents that attended this General Meeting; the discussion revolved about how to engage more parents

Updates on CPAC activities to date

Presented by George - We’re still looking for Class Rep’s - Completion of forms is in progress - Fun Lunch applications are opened until September 28th - Ice-Cream Social was well organized and well received

Presented by Victoria - Out-of-School Care has kicked off: we haven’t had a great

response from the parents; the biking program is new this year, the mini-Rippers (6 wks) was cancelled and we’re investigating why; we’ll revisit the biking program again in the Spring; the older children involved in the Rippers are enjoying it (2-wk program); Cooking Program is popular and running well – the children are

learning a lot; we’re investigating other options, e.g., Robotics, Ping Pong, Coding – Victoria is looking at potential service providers and discussing options and requirements with the Principal; Suggestion: Seung suggested that the Out-of-School activities are advertised on a bulletin board and that a connection is made via the Language Ambassadors; (Note: the online translators are somewhat helpful and appreciated, but aren’t sufficient)

- Budget update

Presented by Jess Franco - Jess explained the budgeting process – this year’s draft will be out

at the beginning consideration for the members’ consideration - This year’s budget is approximately $61K - Angela asked if there is a specific amount we fundraise for; Jess

explained that this isn’t the case, the amount of funds raised has been decreasing over the last few years; she gave an example of another school fundraising for a specific item, rather than fundraising for the following year without a specific amount attached to the activity; Jess suggested that we have a good chance of receiving the gaming grant this year ($20 per child); the advantage of fundraising for a specific project is the option to carry over the pool of money year to year until the required amount is raised

Presented by George

- George further explained that this year we have already assigned funds for First Nations performing artists in support of the new curriculum and encouraged those present to propose ideas for CPAC projects

Update from the Principal

Presented by Lisa - Lisa was excited about the good start to the year; there’s a planning

committee in place; the new curriculum piece is a work in progress that the staff are collaborating on; the Terry Fox run is planned for September 21st; on September 24th an author is coming to school; there will be small-group activities planned for Orange Shirt Day on October 1st

Adjournment The meeting was adjourned @7:40pm

Next meeting 1. October 2018 1.
