The Role of Labour Provisions in International Trade Agreements
The advent of the global crisis has added a new dynamism to the ongoing debate concerning what measures are required to reinforce the social dimensions of the globalisation process (ILO,2004). Numerous approaches have sought to reconcile the objective to promote free trade with the provision of decent working conditions. Part of the discussion has concerned the insertion of labour provisions into the multilateral framework of trade regulation which has proven to be difficult to achieve.
