atmosphere to Kew.
Elisa Biondi, Display Horticulturalist says, 'This year the pond display will be a true explosion of colour – a

YOGA COMES TO CARERS SUPPORT MERTON
Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing. The main components of yoga are postures (a series of movements designed to increase strength and flexibility) and breathing. The practice originated in India about 5,000 years ago, and has been adapted in other countries in a variety of ways. Yoga is a practice that offers benefit and space for people of all ages and backgrounds and Carers Support Merton are now pleased to be able to offer this to our carers with Yoga practitioner Rachel.
Rachel currently teaches Yoga for London's Healthy Schools programme, Merton Council's Sports Blast, is a regular teacher at The Power Yoga Company, and privately works with dancers, actors, and singers. Rachel trained with Yoga to the People in New York, and was immediately hired as a regular teacher for their studios. She was invited to teach for HealthCorps (an American organisation that brings health, fitness, and nutrition education into schools and communities), and taught Yoga for a number of schools in deprived areas.
Rachel will be teaching classes to carers at Drake House on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month at Wimbledon Guild from January 18th—only 10 places are available each session so to avoid disappointment it’s vital that you book your place in advance with Mary

Young Adult Carer Alfie Webb Takes over as Merton Chief Superintendent On the 20th of November young carer Alfie Webb took over the role of Merton’s Detective Chief Superintendent Stuart Macleod (Merton Borough Commander) as part of Children's Commissioner' 'Takeover Challenge'. The Children's Commissioner Takeover Challenge gives young people an insight into what is involved in their working day. Takeover is a fun, hugely successful and exciting children and young people’s engagement project which sees organisations across England opening their doors to children and young people to take over adult roles. It puts children and young people into decision-making positions and encourages organisations and businesses to hear their views. Children gain an insight into the adult world and organisations benefit from a fresh perspective about their work. The Metropolitan Police Service is a strong supporter of this initiative and most Senior Leaders in the Metropolitan Police Service were ‘taken over’ by a young person at some point in November. Alfie comments:- “I was privileged enough to assist the borough commander in his daily duties, such as emails, phone calls, authorising longer detention for people in police custody, attending team meetings, listening to emergency calls as they come in so they know what type of officer/s to send to the call and assisting the borough commander with the Christmas Tree Project which is the biggest charity event ever run by the Met to ensure that thousands of children in care across the capital receive a special Christmas present this year.To finish off Later that day me and the Borough commander went out on patrol ,and whilst we were out on patrol we visited The Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden to show our support for those lives lost in Paris. I didn't expect the role to be involved and it gave me an insight into the work of the Metropolitan Police service, everybody worked very hard and lunch was only 25 minutes MAX!”
Alfie is a member of the Volunteer Police Cadets which is a uniformed voluntary youth organisation supported by the metropolitan police service open to young people aged 10-19 across London's diverse communities . For more information visit http://content.met.police.uk/Site/cadets

UKCA's national card scheme
for cinema goers with a disability.
CEA Card is a national card scheme developed for UK cinemas by the UK Cinema Association (UKCA), The scheme was introduced in 2004 and is one of the ways for participating cinemas to ensure they make reasonable adjustments for disabled guests when they go to the cinema; in particular it ensures a complimentary ticket for someone to go with them.
The CEA Card allows you to obtain ONE free ticket for the person who is accompanying you to enable you to visit the cinema, by providing the assistance you require as a result of your disability, provided you purchase an applicable full price ticket for yourself for the same performance of the same film in the same auditorium. The free ticket is provided on the assumption that the person who accompanies you is able to provide you with appropriate assistance.
To apply for the card you will need to meet one or both of the following criteria:
Be in receipt of the disability living allowance, attendance allowance or Personal Independent Payment.
Be registered a blind person
There is an administration charge of £6.00 for the card which lasts for one year. Your need to apply for the card on line at www.ceacard.co.uk-
if you need help with this please contact one of our family support workers on 0208 646 7515

Catronia Lumiste from Financial Care Solutions gives her overview on the introduction of the care
act and how this can implicate planning for your own future care or the care of a loved one. I appreciate that meeting the cost of care in later life is a growing concern for many people. As life expectancy continues to lengthen, more of us can expect to require some form of long-term care. The introduction of the Care Act was the biggest change to adult social care law in over 60 years. There were many positive changes that were introduced with Part 1 of the Care Act in April 2015. However, the Government has decided it would not be appropriate to implement Part 2 of the Care Act at this time due to the current shortfall in funding for adult social care. Some of the key elements (including the proposed cap on care costs) have been postponed until April 2020 at the earliest. So what does this mean? The need to take advice in this specialist area is ever more paramount in order to have a plan to fund care that will continue to be sustainable throughout the individual’s lifetime without the need for them to move out of a care setting should the money run out prematurely. I can help you plan for the cost of care by looking at all the options and the pros and cons of each option available so you can make an informed decision for a loved one. For Deputies and Attorneys, a vital part of your due diligence should be looking at all the options available to fund care and being in a position to make informed decisions that are in the client’s best interests.
Do you feel daunted by the maze of information in sourcing and funding care for a loved one? Do you have concerns about the best way to fund care for a loved one and make informed
decisions that are in their best interests if you are acting in a Deputy or Attorney role? Would you like the peace of mind of knowing you have researched all the options available and put a plan in place to fund care?
You can call or email me to arrange a confidential chat with no obligation on your part. Croydon: 0208 454 7482 Mobile: 07841 823846
