One of the main schemes is the Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS). Note that there can be some changes from year to year as to which institutions use the SRS and which do not. Schools Recommendation Scheme: Schools Recommendation Schemes (SRS) are one way institutions make early offers to current Australian Year 12 students who have applied for undergraduate admission through UAC. SRS are used by institutions to make offers of undergraduate admission using criteria other than (or in addition to) ATARs. STAT Tests You may have heard of the STAT tests. These tests are generally for people who don’t have formal qualifications to gain entry to University e.g. for people who don’t have an ATAR. The following extract from a recent UAC Directions newsletter provides more information:

What is STAT? STAT is used by many tertiary institutions in Australia as part of their admissions procedure for certain applicants. Rather than testing your knowledge of specific academic subjects, it assesses your ability to think critically and analyse the material given, competencies that are considered important for success in tertiary study. Why sit STAT? If you have no formal qualifications (e.g. Year 12 or tertiary studies) on which to base your application to an undergraduate course, you may be eligible to be considered for entry to the course by sitting STAT. Check our list of institutions that accept STAT for mid-year admissions to find out how long STAT results remain valid and any restrictions that may apply.

For more information about STAT tests, visit: http://www.uac.edu.au/stat/
