Dear Students and Parents,

We are pleased to introduce you to Stevenson University’s concept of Career ArchitectureSM. This approach provides a model of engagement that gives you the skills to manage your career and life to the fullest capacity long past your first job after graduation.

At Stevenson, faculty and staff take an active role in student learning and the Career Architecture model.

One example is our First-Year Seminar, during which freshman students participate in the LEGO® Challenge to learn about their strengths and interests, incorporate the Career Architecture model into their learning, and build strong connections with their classmates. Our office also has Career Services Industry Specialists who work closely with faculty in all academic disciplines to help support professional development and to find new avenues for networking within each student’s industry. Such customized programming, curricula, and events are key elements of the Career Architecture model.

As a Stevenson student, you can also take part in experiential learning activities outside the classroom during your time at the University. Through this combined multitude of experiences, you can reflect on your learning and build a unique professional brand so that you can have an impact on both your career and community.

Siblings Find Path to Success at Stevenson

Stevenson students benefit from a strong career focus, dedicated faculty and staff, and the real life experience that professors bring into the classroom. The Waters siblings show how Stevenson’s programs prepare students for successful careers.

Abbie, a graduate of the elementary education major, is now a second-grade teacher with Frederick County Public Schools in Maryland. While at Stevenson, Abbie participated in campus clubs and organizations as well as honor societies and residence life. As a teacher candidate, Abbie completed placement in fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade classrooms where she gained professional teaching experience. “My professors bent over backward to make sure that I was prepared to be on my own in my profession. They were my role models and worked hard to see every student succeed. They ensured that we were up to date with the latest technology and news in the teaching field,” explains Abbie.

As a business administration major, Dan is also taking advantage of Stevenson’s career focus to prepare for a bright future. Throughout his time at Stevenson, he has interned with Allegis Group, Inc. as a global procurement intern where he had the opportunity to put what he has

learned in the classroom into use in the work place. “This was the greatest opportunity I could have asked for,” he says. “It allowed me to network, use what I learned at Stevenson, and learn a great deal about the corporate and working world.” After graduation, Dan is considering pursuing a career as a business analyst or working for

a corporation in a procurement role. “Although these two options are interesting to me, I plan to keep my options open. Stevenson has prepared me by not letting me limit my abilities. Stevenson’s well-rounded education has prepared me to feel confident entering any career in business.”

“As a student who was still deciding on a major, I went to the Office of Career Services. The staff helped me dissect my interests and talents and then directed me toward the business communication major. I couldn’t be happier with the help that I received.”
