On behalf of the Career & Transfer Center, congratulations to our soon-to-be
graduates! Our students have worked very hard this year in their classes and have
invested a lot of time brainstorming how to eventually gain their dream job.
Students and alumni from the college have taken advantage of career services
and have made 120 appointments this semester.
Columbia College’s collaboration with Mother LodeJob Training to host the second annualCommunity Job Fair on April 5th was a hugesuccess. Over 350 students, alumni, andcommunity job seekers attended the event tonetwork, apply for jobs, and interview with 71employers! Employer panel presentations occurredthroughout the day on careers in hospitalitymanagement, natural resources, law enforcement,
health, fire, education, and the military.

Job Fair Dream Team!
Psychology Major Aneke Harris will be
spending the summer working as a
Camp Lead for Camp Menzies,
associated with Girl Scouts of
California. Aneke stated, “this position
will provide me the opportunity to
work with children and adults to help
prepare me to eventually become a
therapist.”
Darlene Gibson
recently started
working as a Fiscal
Technician at the
Tuolumne County
Community
Resources Agency.
Graduating with her
AA in Business
Administration and
Accounting, Darlene
is “thankful to Randy
Barton and Ida
Ponder for teaching
such relevant skills
in the classroom.” In
particular, Darlene
noted that “Randy’s
Managerial
Accounting course
and Ida’s Small
Business Accounting
class provided me
with the skills and
tools that I use every
day in my new role
as a fiscal tech with
Tuolumne County.”

Keandre Santiago will be working
for the San Francisco Dept. of
Parks and Recreation near
Yosemite National Park, where he
be a Camp Assistant for the
summer. While at Columbia,
Keandre has interned with the US
Forest Service, earned a Certificate,
and nearly finished his AS in
Forestry and National Resources.
Alex Jacob Jones, a business
administration major, also got a job as
a Camp Assistant at Camp Mather!
Alex noted, “the preparation I received
at the Career and Transfer Center
prepared me well for the interview. I
was able to tie in past experience to
what is relevant for the employer.”
Columbia College student Tony
Hardin is excited to have the
chance to work for the U.S. Forest
Service again this year as a
Recreation Tech. Tony uses many
of the skills gained from his
classes at Columbia on the job
and stayed particularly busy
clearing trails and roads after all
of the winter storms this year.

Job Fair Success StoryMany interviews are still taking place as a result of the job fair, but here isone job fair success story: Business major Robert Shepherd recently started working as anOperations Manager with Allstate Valet Services in Tuolumne County.Robert had his second interview with the company at the job fair and isnow working to hire 14 people in Tuolumne County to work as ValetAssociates. Robert shared, “my experience at Columbia has broadened myperspective and enhanced my ability to interact favorably with others.”

Trevor Carter is now working
as a Fire Apparatus Engineer
for CalFire in Merced. Trevor
got his AA in Liberal Studies
and graduated from the Fire
Academy. He noted, “the Fire
Academy motivated me to
excel in the field and taught
me to realize that there is no
option other than success.”
Trevor continues to stay
involved with Columbia
College and has spoken to fire
students about overcoming
obstacles and barriers to
achieve their dreams.
MORRIS FAMILY
Double-majoring in Sociologyand Psychology, DawnFullerton is preparing for aPeer Specialist position withTuolumne County BehavioralHealth! This part-timeposition will allow Dawn totransfer this fall and takeclasses online toward herBachelor’s in Sociology with aminor in Psychology. Dawnsaid, “I am excited to usewhat I learned at ColumbiaCollege in the workplace.”Dawn has worked atColumbia College as aStudent Ambassador and aTRiO Peer Mentor, and has agoal to be a GuidanceCounselor for the educationalsystem.
Xochitl Martinez just starteda summer job as a VisitorService Assistant at GlacierBay National Park in Alaska.The job is full-time and willgive Xochitl invaluableexperience before shereturns fall semester to takemore classes and continueto work as a StudentAmbassador. Xochitl ismajoring in Anthropologyand Communications and ishoping to transfer in 2020.Xochitl shared, “the CareerCenter was integral inhelping me prepare for myinterview.
