60% OF THIS COMES FROM COAL FIRED POWER PLANTS.
POWER PLANTS OPERATE AT 35-45% AVERAGE EFFICIENCY.
TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION LOSSES ARE AT 35-45% (SELECT SECTORS OVER 50%).
ENERGY DEMAND
ENERGY DEMAND IS EXPECTED TO INCREASE TO 325000MW BY 2030.
GOVERNMENT HAS PLANS TO INCREASE THE POWER PLANT CAPACITY TO 225000MW BY THE YEAR 2017.
REALITY
KARNATAKA – SHORTAGE OF 15000MW PEAK POWER. UNSCHEDULED POWER OUTAGES. UPCOUNTRY POWER CUTS UPTO 4-8 HRS EVERY DAY.
TAMIL NADU – SHORTAGE OF POWER. WEEKLY 2 DAYS COMPULSARY POWER HOLIDAYS FOR INDUSTRIAL SECTOR. 70% OF CONTRACT DEMAND ONLY ALLOWED TO BE DRAWN.
ANDHRA PRADESH – COMPULSARY POWER HOLIDAY FOR 5 DAYS A MONTH.
EXCEPT GUJARAT WHICH IS POWER SURPLUS, ALL OTHER STATES ARE IN DEFICIT.
