Losing a job has a significant effect on the sub-

conscious mind.

In a work environment we hold a position of responsibility at a high or low level.

Having a job provides an infrastructure around us. There are colleagues and those

involved with us professionally, people who we work for and perhaps those who

work for us, a job to be done and places to go. All this disappears whenever we

leave. Suddenly, we are no longer the same person when we move out of this

environment.

Statistically, on average 65% of our entire lives are spent working. Take this huge

amount away and naturally a significant mind change occurs.

We leave a job for whatever reason, we leave the title and responsibilities behind us

and those perhaps, who have experienced our capabilities and achievements. All

this has disappeared, gone forever; put into the archives of ‘history’. Now we must

look at the present and future with a different pair of eyes.

First of all, we have now joined a different industry, ‘The job hunting industry.’ One

we will not be familiar with, and for now, our new title will be that of ‘Job

Seeker’.

We must therefore engage our brains and think differently.

In a job hunting situation, one has a need to achieve a position, as soon as possible,

especially if we are no longer ‘in work’. To do this successfully, planning and strategy

must become a paramount need.

Invariably, the first thing we do in our quest to seek re-employment is write a CV. All

attempts are made to write a positive document that will hopefully impress a

potential employer. How should it be compiled? What are they really seeking?

How many pages should it contain? What should we put in or leave out?

Constructing a CV is the most difficult thing we can ever write. A wise man once

said, “The three most important documents in a person’s life are a birth certificate, a

death certificate and a CV”.

Statistically, over 80% of CVs fail to achieve the objective. Why?

A word of caution. Writing our own CV is virtually impossible! As career coaches and

mentors, we help people develop the content, design and format but it must still

remain an individual’s document and should read that way.

Some years ago, I developed a different kind of CV that looked nothing like the

standard CV, for someone who had been struggling to achieve a new job. Firstly, I

engaged with him to establish exactly what he could offer a new company. This

began the creation of the S.E.A factor. (Skills, Experience and Achievements). I

developed the S.E.A Factor, as a probe that delves deep into career history. (I

challenge anybody who can clearly write down all their SEA factor assets!) It’s like

baking a cake. If you have a list of all the ingredients, it’s much easier to produce the

recipe! So, my hybrid CV was born. The hybrid CV has now assisted thousands of

people across the world, from the student’s first job to CEO's of major companies.

Did you know that most CVs are rejected at first glance.

The hybrid CV, now produced by Mentor My Career (MMC), does not allow this to

happen. A personality statement establishes a mental image of the person that it

belongs to. Likeability gets interviews. Establishing the needs of the decision maker

and the career plan of the applicant, achieves an interview every time. This first

client achieved a job in a different industry, at a higher level and an increase in

salary.

Many people would love to change to a different career, achieve a promotion or

increase their salary level, but how can this be achieved, if the content of a CV

merely contains, what you have done, who you did it for and how long you spent

doing it? Dates all over a CV can be very negative! The MMC hybrid CV changes all

that!

Having the S.E.A Factor in front of a job hunter, engaged in a telephone interview,

increases confidence and provides a great reference tool. It also proves to be

invaluable, when preparing for interviews.

Some individuals experience a form of shock when leaving employment. The future

suddenly becomes uncertain. Cash flow then is an issue even if a redundancy

package is paid. The best way of living is from our earnings, not assets, no matter

how they were obtained. Savings haemorrhage fast without income.

Often the confidence within a person diminishes. First mentally, then it begins to

show in the physical appearance. The cause for this is found in the fact that all

impulses of thought tend to cloak themselves in their physical equivalent. The social

things one used to do and take for granted now need thinking about. Family and

friends often act in a different way. In some cases, as if the unemployment is a

terminal complaint, until a new position is found.

For this reason, almost 70% of job hunters take positions below their level of

capability just to get a job.

Once this occurs, the road forward to success and progression is rarely achieved. In

life and especially in job hunting, there is a difference between wishing for a thing

and being ready to receive it. No one is ready for anything until there’s a belief it can

be acquired. This demands a decision and decisions are hard to make and act upon.

The lack of confidence closes the mind and reduces faith, courage and belief. Open

mindedness is therefore essential for having belief, especially in job hunting.

One requires no more effort to aim high in life or to demand prosperity and success

rather than aim low when confidence is an issue.

Have you ever read this fantastic poem by Jessie B. Rittenhouse, that has such a

powerful meaning? It clearly emphasises the crossroads we all reach at some point

in our lives.

I bargained with Life for a penny and Life would pay me no more, However I begged at evening, When I counted my

scanty store.

For Life is just an employer, He gives you what you ask, But once you have set the wages, Why, you must bear the task.

I worked for a menial’s hire, Only to learn, dismayed, That any wage I had asked of Life, Life would have willingly

paid.

We must now look at selling career services. Fundamentally, that’s what everyone

is doing in job hunting, but how can this be done successfully?

The many people we have helped, soon begin to view job hunting, as an exciting

adventure, rather than a leap into the unknown. We structure a plan together,

which provides a clear objective, the road map that leads to the right position.

Planning will be mentioned several times.

Establishing the fact that all candidates are selling their services, a need to fully

identify the product contained within the career is vital. We then must discover how

these products can be articulated in such a way, as to fulfil the needs of a potential

new employer.

Let’s take a look at a newly developed company. How was it formed right at the

very start of its life? It commences with the seed of an idea. The idea is moved

forward into a plan or purpose that may have been planted in a person’s mind in a

number of ways. It will then start to germinate, reaching a point where one has to

relate the idea to paper. As soon as this happens a fundamental change takes place.

At that point it becomes a commitment and therefore, demands action. ‘The Plan is

born’.

Let’s now start to think of a career, as a business, ‘a service business.’ It should be

viewed almost as a separate entity from ourselves.

The more this becomes apparent the better. Soon we become less influenced by any

lack of confidence that commonly occurs during job hunting. Taking this very

different view helps us to prepare for the tasks ahead.

As career coaches, we work with clients, as a team. An inventory is taken of an

individual’s mental assets and liabilities. Job hunting clients must discover firstly,

their greatest weaknesses (liabilities) and eliminate them from the services he/she

intends to market.

Before a person can really commence planning a job hunting campaign, confidence

must be boosted and remain at a high static level. The way of doing this is via auto-

suggestion, derived through a simple arrangement of positive thought impulses

stated in writing, memorised and then repeated, until they become a major part of

the equipment of the subconscious mind. Some people call them goals.

Read carefully the List of Self-Confidence Steps, below:

1. I have the ability to achieve objectives and have now defined them in my

purpose of life. I emphatically demand of myself a structured course of action. I

will be persistent in my endeavours and I hereby promise to render my actions

through and into attainment.

2. I have a clearly constructed and written down career business plan,

incorporating my fully justified aims in life of which I am now committed.

3. I will develop sufficient self-confidence to attain my objective.

4. I am aware that the dominating influences of my mind will reproduce itself

outwardly in a physical form, which will conclude in my actions. I will therefore,

concentrate my thoughts every day upon the person I intend to become, both

professionally and personally, and create in my mind a clear mental picture of

that person.

5. I know through auto-suggestion that any desire I persistently keep in my mind

will seek to express itself through some form of practical means. I will bring

that desire into reality and put aside a few minutes each day for the

development of my self-confidence.

6. I fully understand that no position or the income it offers can be sustained

unless there are firm foundations of truth. I will therefore make sure that my

transition is of a benefit to all it affects. I will successfully attract myself and the

forces I intend to use to gain the co-operation of others and, therefore, envy,

hatred, selfishness, cynicism and jealousy, will be completely eliminated. I will

replace these things with the love of humanity, through all its faults and

failings!

7. I realise that a negative attitude towards others can never bring me success. I

will therefore, cause others to believe and have faith in me, because I shall

likewise believe in them.

8. I will say out aloud the content of these seven points every day repeatedly, to

gradually influence my thoughts and actions, so that I will become self-

confident in myself and be self-reliant and successful.

Is all this worth the effort? You bet it is. Success and riches in all their forms begin in

the minds of man.

Auto-suggestion is the self-administered term used in all self-suggestions and all

self-administered stimuli that reaches one’s mind. Auto-suggestion takes place in

that part of the mind where conscious thoughts take place and they are then

activated through the subconscious.

The dominating thoughts that are permitted to remain in the conscious parts of

mind can be both, negative or positive. Often in job hunting they become negative.

These will remain and grow until action is taken to eliminate them.

Nature has developed us to be in absolute control over the material that reaches the

subconscious mind. This is derived through our five senses. Most people however,

do not activate this control. This explains why many go through life in a moderate

fashion or indeed at the extreme, in poverty.

Auto-suggestion is a means of control through which we feed the subconscious mind

with thoughts of a creative nature or permit those thoughts to be destructive.

Commonly, this is the case during job hunting.

WHAT DO YOU DESIRE?

Having a very strong desire influences our future, brings about significant changes

and forms reality.

As coaches, we use six specific steps in the activation of a person’s desire to bring

about reality. They are detailed, specific and constructed, as short-term objectives

with a strategy, purpose and meaning. They become exciting developments that are

constantly used long after the new position has been accomplished.

To the uninitiated, who have little knowledge of the workings of the human mind,

there is a natural failure to recognise the significance of these six steps. With help

however, they become very powerful. These six steps have been used to convey

and develop many world famous business people, people who by using them have

attained goals, positions and wealth of unparalleled proportions.

This world is bulging with opportunities - lets tap into them together.

BURNING DESIRE.

A common term but one rarely fully activated.

A burning desire to do or to have is the starting point for tapping into reality.

Remember that EVERYONE who succeeds in life often gets off to a bad start, but to

succeed they must pass through the barriers of struggle, failure, heartbreak and let-

downs to reach the ‘arrival point’.

The turning point in the lives of those who succeed, often comes at the point of

crisis. When they are introduced to their ‘other selves’.

One of the world’s greatest books was written when its author was languishing in a

prison cell, suffering persecution and physical abuse. The book was ‘Pilgrim’s

Progress’.

Charles Dickens stuck labels on blacking pots for a living. A significant tragedy in his

life converted him into a great author. Out of this tragedy, “David Copperfield” was

written.

The misfortune of being deaf, blind and mute did not prevent a woman from

learning to speak and writing her name in the pages of history. (Helen Keller.)

An illiterate country boy from Scotland who grew up in extreme poverty and

became a drunkard into the bargain, gave the world, through the wonderful words

he wrote: peace, joy, hope and a tranquillity that has never been surpassed. (Robbie

Burns.)

Milton was a blind man, Beethoven was deaf. They had the ability to succeed from

the ashes of failure, problems and disabilities. This ability is within all of us.

With help you can achieve what may now seem impossible and unachievable.

The phrase to ‘burn your boats’, derived from a great warrior who long ago, faced a

situation of how he could ensure success during a great battle. He was about to

send his army to face a formidable enemy who outnumbered his men significantly.

He embarked with his army in sailing boats to meet the foe. Upon reaching their

destination, he instructed his men to set fire to the boats. He then addressed them

saying, “The boats are now burned beyond use, which means that we cannot leave

these shores until we win! We have no choice.... We Win or Perish.”

They Won.

Anyone who wins at anything must be willing to burn their boats, or burn their

bridges, and only by doing so, can a ‘burning desire’ be accomplished, to win and

succeed. In job hunting, this means obtaining the position you really are entitled to.

What distinguishes many successful people such as Bill Gates and Richard Branson

from others? They apply the workings of their mind to themselves physically. As

career coaches we help people to do this continually.

Fact: Every person who reaches the age whereby they understand the purpose of

position and money, has a desire to own these things. Those who desire them

without deviation to the point where it becomes an obsession, plans a way to obtain

them. Persistence will not recognise failure, and success will be the outcome.

THE SCEPTIC.

Any new idea can often be viewed with scepticism. You may even be thinking

sceptically, as you read through these pages. You may have spoken briefly to me or

one of my colleagues and think, “How can he/she help me?” But for those who take

an open view of the words written here, scepticism will soon be replaced with

belief.

Many great philosophers have agreed that man is the master of his own destiny.

Man can only become his own master if he has the power to influence his

subconscious mind.

EDUCATION.

Often, we hear people say, “I don’t have sufficient or the right education,” “I did not

go to University,” or “The degree I have has no bearing on my current career.” Often

those who are seeking new employment are advised to read an MBA? This is NOT

necessary for the achievement of a new job! Ask the thousands who have spent

millions trying.

Education comes from the Latin word “Educo,” to induce, draw out, to develop from

within. Therefore, an educated person is one who possesses general or specialised

knowledge. An educated person is also one who has developed the facilities of his

mind.

Overcoming the problems of a lack in academic education is easy. But first the

problem must be overcome in the applicant’s mind.

Many people who I have helped, have obtained new positions after overcoming

competition from others who have received a far more formal or higher level of

academic education.

Knowledge and ability of how to draw up an exacting CV and being excellent in the

interview afterwards will reap its own rewards. However, this will require know-how

and good coaching.

In today’s world professional sportsmen and leading managers etc., never go it

alone. They always engage the services of a professional coach.

Specialist knowledge in career coaching is vital to obtain the real job, the one that

fits individual needs and career advancement.

Often one hears that up to 80% of jobs are obtained before the opportunity is

advertised in the public domain? Completely true. Tapping into those

opportunities however, requires know-how, dedication and hard work.

Forming a team and an alliance with a professional coach and mentor will boost self-

confidence, develop a plan and accomplish the objective. One of the commonest

questions a career coach will initially ask a person is, “What specifically are you

seeking as a new position?”

90% cannot categorically answer this question. Therefore, how can they go and find

a position before knowing exactly what they are seeking?

Knowledge paves the way to riches when you know which road to take.

Can you leave the ‘rut’ that you have possibly been in and transfer your knowledge

into a position that is more fulfilling? Yes, with help.

How many places up the positional ladder can you jump to next? Two is easy. Three

is possible. Five has been achieved.

THE BUYER NEEDS AS MUCH HELP AS THE SELLER.

Writing a job description for a new position is very difficult and one of the hardest

tasks a decision maker faces. Often the requirement is based from history, not

specifically for future needs.

Tablets of Stone.

The job description almost always becomes the yard stick from which the successful

person is ultimately employed. The candidate applies directly to the job description

and the decision maker assesses the candidates from it. But if we assume that a job

description is often poorly written, is the candidate and positional match a good

one? More often than not, the answer is no.

As far as the candidate is concerned he could have more knowledge and skills than

the job description is directly calling for.

What will the candidate do with these extras?

Two things happen here:

1. The candidate will give the additional knowledge and skills away freely within a

short time of joining the company. The company has been handed a bargain.

They would properly have paid much more money and may even have granted

the candidate a better level of position.

2. On the other hand, if the company does not require these additions, then the

candidate soon becomes bored, undervalued and is looking to start a job

hunting search all over again.

For this reason, many people arrive at a level, but fail to move on progressively

throughout their career. There is no such thing as equilibrium in business or careers,

only up or down. Therefore, let’s make sure the career continues to progress

upwards.

None of the above issues will happen with a professional career coach and mentor

in your team.

The best jobs and the best candidates emerge when both understand the needs of

each other. Working in harmony will then mutually reap its own rewards.

There is no fixed price for sound experience and skills. You set your price, not

someone else. If they are not prepared to pay your price - move on, other decision

makers will pay the price.

For those who believe that hard work and honesty alone bring wealth and career

rewards. Alas they are wrong. Planning and activating the career constantly is

needed. Plans become impulses that demand action.

Without plans even the best person on earth accomplishes nothing.

If a plan fails, it’s just a temporary defeat never a permanent failure. The plan simply

was wrong. Always rebuild the plan, based on the knowledge this temporary defeat

has provided you.

Brilliant people are reduced to poverty because they lack a sound plan.

A QUITTER never wins………………. A WINNER never quits.

There are 10 directions to find your new position. How many do you know? You

have personal services for sale. Do you know exactly what they are?

If we agree that your career is your very own personal business, how many

businesses grow and develop without a business plan?

Remember it’s not the barrister, who knows the most about the law. The one who

prepares the best case, wins! Engaging in job hunting is no different.

A successful sales person is well groomed and will stand out and be remembered

above others. The CV should be no different. Your CV is your silent salesman. We

work with clients together, as a team to create the CV, as a marketing brochure,

fulfilling the decision makers need.

Finding the Perfect Job for You.

We all enjoy doing a job for which we are best suited. In the UK, there are millions of

opportunities for everyone (mostly unadvertised), to do exactly what they are best

suited for! Below are just a few examples of how, as professional career coaches, we

help clients recognise how to obtain the perfect job following the planning stage.

Decide exactly what position is wanted. Positions are often created if they don’t

actually exist (the unadvertised market).

Study the prospective employers (the targets). Look at the company closely to see

how they tick and what are the chances of future advancement?

What kind of a company and indeed, what type of person do you want to work for?

Forget about simply getting a job. Don’t concern yourself whether an opening may

exist or not. Major on the benefits you can sell to the company. Every company is

seeking people who can add value.

A well-presented, professionally prepared CV and a coached person, will stand head

and shoulders above the competition every time, even if others can demonstrate

more academic qualifications.

Almost every company has positions for people with sound ideas, services,

connections and added values, especially if they have a definite personal plan of

action that can benefit the company.

This line and procedure may take a little time, but the rewards are huge, especially

with regard to income and advancement terms. Gaining recognition will save years

of toil at modest levels.

It is vital that every job hunter recognises the fundamental change that has taken

place between employer and employee. Partnerships now exist in the workplace.

WE KEEP HARPING BACK TO PLANNING.

The reason for success is in good marketing of the services contained within the

career, sold effectively.

Unless these services are analysed, studied and understood with the help of a

professional career coach and mentor and then applied, rarely can one market one’s

full potential, efficiently and permanently.

Job hunters must be a sales person of personal services.

Don’t be a go getter (they went out years ago). Be the go giver.

HOW MUCH ARE YOUR SERVICES WORTH TO A COMPANY?

Often the question is asked. “What sort of salary are you looking for?”

A good way of estimating the capital value of your services is to multiply your

current or last annual salary by sixteen and two thirds. Check it out. (How did you

fair? Most incomes are well below the capital value. Now is the time to do

something about it).

People are paid not just for what they know, but more particularly, for what they do

with what they know.

When you look in a mirror are you looking at your best pal or your greatest

enemy? Both play a major part in determining your future.

PROCRASTINATION.

Procrastination is the big KILLER in most job hunting situations. Procrastination

stands in wait, ready to spoil the chances of success. Most people go through life as

failures because they wait for the time to be right. Never wait. Now is always the

best time.

A lot of people are good starters but poor finishers. Often people give up when

faced by the first hurdle. Kick procrastination into touch and out of the vocabulary.

Failure loses when it has to cope with persistence.

Men who succeed make decisions quickly and change them slowly.

Men who fail make decisions slowly and change them quickly.

OVERCAUTIOUS.

The person who will not take a chance generally, has to pick up the crumbs and

leftovers. Being over cautious is as bad as under cautious. Both must be avoided.

Life is full of the elements of chance.

HOW TO MARKET YOURSELF.

In the Scriptures, it is written, ‘Man, know thyself’. If one markets products

successfully, one knows everything about the product. The same must therefore be

true when marketing personal services.

Have we mentioned planning and help before?

Knowledge of both your strengths and weaknesses are vital. Market your strengths

and eliminate your weaknesses from the portfolio. Often because of job descriptions

many try and market weaknesses, naturally without success.

Let us put a S.W.A.T analysis together to identify your Strengths, Weaknesses,

Attributes and Threats. (Impossible to do without professional help).

Let’s engage in accurate analysis.

CASE STUDY.

A man applied for a position in a well-known company. He made a good impression,

until the manager asked what salary he was looking for. The man replied that he had

no fixed salary in mind. (De-focused, a big turn off). The manager then went on to

say that they would be prepared to pay him what they thought he was worth after a

trial period. “I would not accept that because I’m getting more than that where I’m

working at the moment,” replied the man.

Extreme, but a true case never the less.

Before you negotiate a salary, no matter whether that may involve a readjustment

through your current company or a new opportunity somewhere else, make sure

that you are aware of your assets and that you know how to demonstrate what they

are worth. With help you can show them to be worth far more than you currently or

last received and then aim well above.

HAVE YOU ADVANCED VERY FAR SINCE THIS TIME LAST YEAR?

An annual career analysis is an essential part of the effective marketing of your

personal services and your career, especially now that you are viewing it as a

business. Clearly, it should show a decrease in faults and an increase in virtues. Each

person stands still, goes forward or goes backward in life. Standing still, means

heading down hill! The objective therefore, should be to go ahead.

Annual self-analysis will reveal where advancement has been made and indeed by

how much. It will also reveal any backward steps.

The successful marketing of personal services requires one to move forward, even if

the movement is slow.

In order to carry out a successful self-analysis, a guide in the form of a list of

questions must be constructed so that a check can be made against them. I

recommend this check is taken every three months. It helps to refocus the mind and

guide us back on track, if required, and discover our accomplishments. Let’s break

down your year into four, three-monthly parts. Below is a list as a guide. Use them,

and any others in addition that you may wish to include:

Career Checklist.

1. “Have I accomplished the goals set for this quarter?” (With a career coach the

client will have worked out the short-term objectives, as well as life goal

objectives).

2. “Have I a guilt complex about my conduct not being conducive to my

conscience?” 3. “Have I reached decisions quickly and precisely, on all occasions?”

4. “If I had been the purchaser of the services I have provided, would I be

completely happy with those services and value them in accordance to the

price I have paid?”

5. “Have I reduced the level of my services through lack of effort, concentration or

boredom?”

6. “Have I displayed too much ego, either openly or in secret, with myself?”

7. “Have I worked strictly to a time management routine and have I budgeted my

income and expenses diligently and to plan?”

8. “Have I delivered my services to the best of my ability, and effectively, within

my level of capability?”

9. “Have I allowed myself to procrastinate and therefore, decrease my efficiency.

If so, by how much and how can this be rectified?”

10. “Have I allowed fear to reduce my affectability and efficiency?”

11. “Have the relationships I have with work colleagues been good or not? If not,

how much of that is my fault?”

12. “Where and in what ways have I improved and thereby, provided a better service?”

13. “Have the decisions and opinions I have followed been accurate, using careful

analysis and thought? Or has guess work played a part?”

14. “In exactly what way have I improved in the ability to provide my services?”

15. “Have I delivered my services to the very best of my ability and if so, how can I

now improve them still further? If I have not, can I define the reason and make

improvements during my next period?”

16. “Have I improved in my private life and in my personality? If so, by how much

and in what way?”

17. “Have I demonstrated to myself a degree of over cautiousness or under

cautiousness?”

18. “Have I maintained an open mind at all times and have I been tolerant in all subjects?”

19. “How has my conduct been with my colleagues and associates and have I

gained and earned their respect?”

20. “Can I prove that I have provided a better and improved service far greater

than I have been paid?”

21. “Have I worked in a harmonious way and co-operated at all times?”

22. “Have those who have purchased my services been completely satisfied?”

23. “Have there been occasions when I have not been fair to someone and if so,

why?”

24. “Am I really doing exactly what I want to do? Am I providing exactly the

services I wish to deliver? If not, what am I going to change?”

25. “How have the last three months gone, with regards to my goals and success?”

(Be honest with yourself. As coaches, we check these out with clients. It must

be done accurately).

26. “Have I been constant and persistently followed my plans and goals until they

have been successfully completed?”

Make a short statement against each question. This will give you the opportunity to

analyse exactly the degrees of service benefits you have delivered and improved

upon. Now you are ready to use your observations for the goals you are going to set

for the next period in your career’s marketing year.

Reward yourself for a job well done.

Rewarding one’s self is a great motivator. You can do this weekly, as well as at the

end of each quarter. Treat and pamper yourself.

A great idea is to also include a special occasion that you will share with someone

close to you. Tell them what you intend to do and that they will also benefit from

the accomplishment. This gives you a commitment and determination to achieve.

Success needs no explanation………………. Failure gives no alibis.

POWER IS CREATED WHEN A MIND HAS BEEN MADE UP.

Throughout the history of mankind, it has been found that a strong desire will

transfer into its physical equivalent. I can quote pages of case studies to show how

ordinary people have turned their desires into fantastic physical equivalents.

These are not miracles. Men have spent fruitless generations seeking miracles,

without success.

Get into the habit of reaching decisions quickly. Know what you want and go out and

get it. Indecision is a habit that tends to start in youth and grows through one’s adult

life and career.

Often, we take the first position we find because we have succumbed to the habit

of indecision.

Note: Bosses often flatter people into positions. Exclusively for their benefits…not

yours.

Those who reach decisions quickly know what they want and get it.

This world has a habit of making way for those who turn words into actions and can

demonstrate where they are going….Can you?

Over 98% of those who work for a basic income in positions they hold, lack the

certainty of decisions to plan, define goals and know how to select the right

employer.

This demands courage, but with our help, as professional career coaches and

mentors, it becomes a breeze.

The person who reaches a decision to obtain a specific position and makes life pay

the price, does not stake the future on that decision, but on the economic freedom

it offers.

DEFEAT IS A TEMPORARY THING.

Defeat must always be viewed, as a temporary condition. Persistence applied to

defeat will result in victory.

Those who stand on the side lines of life, see huge numbers of people who go down

by defeat. Some never rise again. Are you one of these? If you have taken the trouble

to read this booklet thus far, your feelings should be ready to make a change.

Are you in reverse gear? We can help you return to neutral and then into forward

gears, quickly.

For generations people have gone to places where success has been built and

achieved, where the perception is that streets are ‘paved with gold’. The reality

might be different for some. However, a man once said, as he looked out from his

desk....

“I see London stretched out before me, for many, the graveyard of dreams and

hopes, but it’s also the doorway to opportunity.”

Many places acknowledge talent, recognise desire, and love persistence, then

provide the opportunities.

Being persistent is a state of mind, which can be developed and cultivated. Like

other states of mind. Persistence comes from all causes contained within them.

The Purpose.

Knowing exactly what one wants first is fundamental. A strong visible motive

overcomes any difficulty.

Identify the Desire.

Having desire to achieve in abundance breeds persistence.

Self-Belief.

Once the abilities have been agreed, they can be carried out with persistence. These

are developed through auto-suggestion.

Good Accurate Knowledge.

Are your plans sound? Have they been based on experience or observation? All

these things encourage persistence to flourish. Simply trying to guess things

through, will destroy your persistence.

Pinpoint Accurate Knowledge.

Did I mention planning? Are the plans sound or weak? Are they practical or

impractical? The former will encourage persistence, the latter will not.

Being Co-operative.

Developing a rapport with others, having understanding, and having sympathy with

them when needed, develops co-operation and persistence.

Having Will Power.

Directing and concentration of one’s mind and thoughts upon building the plans for

attainment, defines purpose, leading to persistence.

MORE REFLECTIONS ON PERSISTENCE.

Read the list below. If you lack in any essential qualities, these will help you to focus.

See how many you lack. Hopefully, they will allow you to identify the real enemies

that may well stand between you and success. Study this list carefully, because

these are the weaknesses, which must be mastered to achieve success.

1. Blaming others for our mistakes and accepting poor circumstances, as being

unavoidable.

2. Lack of detailed planning and goals recorded in writing, so they can be

committed too and read, frequently.

3. Looking for short-cuts and hopeful outcomes. Attempting to obtain without

giving much in return.

4. Being indecisive and ‘passing the buck’, instead of facing up to issues.

5. The lack of interest to obtain better knowledge, even though these extras

could change you for the better.

6. Procrastination. Being full of excuses for not doing.

7. Having the fear of being criticised. Not making plans and acting on them

immediately, because of what others may say.

8. Rely on excuses, rather than producing definite plans for the solution of your

problems.

9. Compromise in a situation, rather than meet it head on and fight it.

10. Low or lack of desire, through neglect of motivational choice that restricts

action.

11. Not engaging in positive actions when ideas surface or opportunities present

themselves.

12. Having a wish instead of a will.

13. Inability to recognise and therefore, know exactly what you want.

14. Putting up or compromising with your lot, rather than having the ambition,

planning, desire and will to change into owning, doing and being.

FEAR.

Looking at fear with regard to job hunting in particular. The main fear is criticism.

Criticism from family, friends, former colleagues etc. Often, we permit these people

to influence us and our judgement, because it becomes difficult in this situation to

live without the fear of being criticised.

Countless job hunters permit relations and close relatives to potentially wreck their

careers, because they think they are doing the job hunter a favour, by making

comments or offering suggestions for that person to follow.

Far too many people in job hunting, fail to set high goals for themselves and even

neglect their career position, because their close family might think them crazy.

“Just get yourself a job, and then look for a better one later.”

This comment is common. Often made by a partner or spouse, often out of

ignorance and fear of an uncertain future.

By reading this booklet and really reading it, you might well act on its content and

dramatically move forward or not, but one thing is certain, it will have made you

think! How many parts do you recognise of yourself through these pages,

especially, where procrastination, planning and fear are concerned?

Changing and improving the chances of success is in your hands. Is it worth some

effort?

Are you really living and working the best you can possibly can?

Would you really like to change, instead of just wishing you could?

Would you like to move forward into a position that excites you?

If the answer to just one of these questions is yes, then we will help you get there.

The passion of career coaches is to continue helping people to discover their true
