POLICE DETECTIVE

A day in a life- A detective must secure deceased bodies and obtain evidence

from them, prevent bystanders from tampering with them prior to medical

examiner's arrival and examine crime scenes to obtain clues and evidence, such as loose hairs, fibers, clothing, or weapons.

Skills- must be a critical thinker, an active listener, and be able to solve complex problems

Growth- Expects to see rapid growth within the next 5-10 years.

Quality of life- Most detectives entering usually work in large firms and gain experience to begin their careers. After 5-10 years of work, the detectives have gained strong reputations and gained valuable experience

Reaction- A police detective would be the ideal career for me and my skill set. My dream is to peruse a career in law enforcement and as a detective, I believe I could best utilize my skill set of decision making and complex problem solving. As a detective, I would also get the recognition and authority that I desire. I would also give me a good profit gain of $71,770 annually.

SHERIFF AND DEPUTY SHERRIFF

Day in a life – A sheriff's job is to investigate illegal or suspicious activities and drive vehicles or patrol specific areas to detect law violators, issue citations, and make arrests. There will also be times where they must take control of accident scenes to maintain traffic flow, assist accident victims, and investigate causes.

Growth- Projected growth for this job is only about 3-9%. However, there are about 249,400 projected career openings from 2010-2020

Skills- Speaking, Critical Thinking, Judgment and decision making.

Reaction- I believe this career would be one of the best suited for me. I would prefer to go into a career in law enforcement and becoming a Sheriff would best suit my abilities of decision making and complex problem solving. In addition to that, they make a decent salary and the job would give me a certain level of power and authority that I desire.

PROMOTION MANAGER

A day in a life- A promotion manger must plan and prepare advertising and promotional material to increase sales of products or services, working with customers, company officials, sales departments and advertising agencies.

Quality of life- Two years as a promoter is a significant and important time in the profession, where one gains experience and builds a reputation

Growth- The entertainment industry is expected to grow by around 20 percent over the next ten years, so more jobs will be opening to promote the industry and companies will be seeking young talent with new and creative ideas.

Facts and Figures- Promoters generally work in specific fields and small, concentrated companies, so associations are not considered significant to this profession

Reaction- As a promotion manager, I would generally work for a business, which I am open to doing. To become a manager, first is would have to spend time working as a promoter to gain experience. The average income is….

CRIMINAL INVESTIGATORS AND SPECIAL AGENTS

Day in a Life- A special agent must prepare reports that detail investigation findings and obtain and verify evidence by interviewing and observing suspects and witnesses or by analyzing records.

Quality of life- Most occupations in this zone require training in vocational schools, related

on-the-job experience, or an associate's degree

Growth- The projected career openings from 2010-2020 are about 30,100 and an overall percent growth ranging from 3%-9%

Skills- Critical thinking, Deductive reasoning and Oral expression are important skills for special agents

Reaction- Despite this career not having many openings in the next few years, this career would give me a good sense of recognition, as well as power and authority. I also think that may critical thinking and deductive reasoning would benefit me in perusing the profession

LAWYER

Day in a life- A lawyers job is to present evidence to defend clients

or prosecute defendants in criminal or civil litigation. Useful skills

to have for the career are active listening , complex problem solving and critical thinking

Quality of life- After finishing law school and passing the bar exam, new litigators put in long hours assisting senior lawyers. Typical jobs include fact gathering and legal research

Growth- There is a constant need for lawyers to help resolve situations concerning the law. The career’s projected growth from 2010-2020 is from 10-19% And approximately 212,000 jobs will open

Skills- judgment and decision making, critical thinking and negotiation are all useful skills for a lawyer

Reaction- Lawyers make an annual salary of about 113,310 annually, which is one of the things I look for in a job. In addition to that, as a lawyer, I believe that I would have and opportunity to use my skills of critical thinking and decision making help win trials and settlements.

document incidents and activities, and to monitor and investigate unusual or illegal activity in patrol area.

Skills- Selective Attention and problem sensitivity are two of the most important skills for a patrol officer

Reaction- Pursuing a profession as a patrol officer interests me because I would like to work in a field involving law and public safety, and because my critical thinking and my decision making would be useful when dealing with conflicts and problems when they arise. In addition to that, as a patrol officer, I would make a decent sized salary and have a level of power and authority.
