RUACH - CHANGING LIVES ONE FAMILY AT TIME“I’m a little pencil in the hand of a writing God, who is sending a love letter to the world.” – Mother Teresa

This quote from Mother Teresa is not only referring to herself, but defi nitely also to the magnifi cent work in the Vaal Triangle of RUACH PRAYER CENTRE and their dedication and love to the forgotten amongst us.

RUACH PRAYER CENTRE was a dream of Johan and Esther Botes some eleven years ago, and developed under a ministry for the homeless and the destitute. What initially started as a prayer centre has become a place of hope for the hopeless where a sustainable future is provided. RUACH started changing lives, one family at a time. Today they are taking care of up to 85 families per month. They not only provide food, clothes and other amenities of life, but also give much needed emotional support.

RUACH is not just a place where people receive hand-outs. It is a place where people get their self-worth and dignity back. The aim is to place individuals and families back into society with hope for the future and the chance of making a success of their lives.

Johan Botes believes that within every “lost” person there is a champion waiting to be released. When a destitute person or family ask for help, he assesses their needs and start with a program to reinstate them back into society. He looks at every person or family in a holistic way. Over the past eleven years over one thousand people and families have been successfully integrated back into society through the support of RUACH.

There are many success stories but the huge rewards are in the little acts of kindness. RUACH has recently handed over a brand new bicycle to a young girl living in utter poverty. Due to a lack of fi nances her family also could not provide transport and she had to walk over 6 kilometres to school every day. That came to an end when she received her pink bicycle.

RUACH are very serious to treat every single person with the utmost respect and dignity while they assess their personal needs and circumstances. The only difference between such a family and yourself is circumstances and anyone’s circumstances can change with the blink of an eye.

But organisations like RUACH needs funding to change lives and over the past eleven years, Erina Lodewyckx, our Nr 1 Leading Lady in CareCard, together with her Vaal River Circle team, have provided over R1.4 million to RUACH, through our CareCard CareCard membership model.Every member’s automatic monthly contribution to their charity of choice makes a huge difference in organisations like RUACH, while the members and their families enjoy excellent benefi ts and have the opportunity to create additional income. DEAR CARECARD TEAMYou have been an amazing support to Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust over the past year. Thank you so much for your financial contribution which we have used to save and change many lives.

Our beneficiaries wanted to say their own thank you to you – pictured here are children involved in our HIV Prevention programme that works with 1000 orphaned and vulnerable young people (primarily young women) across six communities. The programme is targeted primarily at youth who are currently HIV negative, and the aim of the programme is to provide a suite of interventions targeting the young people themselves, their care-givers, their schools and their partners all with the aim of helping them to make good choices, protect themselves and remain HIV negative. Our vision is an AIDS-free Valley of 1000 Hills and we know that step one in that vision is to raise up a HIV-free generation.

SUSTAINABLE FUNDING FOR NPO’S - THE HEART OF OUR BUSINESS

Our Respite Unit continues to be full with 24 patients and a long waiting list, and we continue to be encouraged by the roughly 70% recovery and discharge rate we are seeing. These are lives saved, second chances given, people who are able to come back from the brink of death and return to their families, their jobs, their lives. They leave the Unit with a future they didn’t think they would have.

From the children we work with through our prevention programmes, to the grannies involved in our grannie support groups, to our Respite Unit patients, to the 350 odd crafters receiving an income through our Woza Moya Income Generation Project, and everyone in-between….THANK YOU for your amazing support in the 2015-2016 financial year. We could not do what we do without you.

We all dream of having enough money and time to do what we want and what we like and it is easy to think that passive income is money you earn while sitting on a beach sipping mojitos. The truth is that there is lots of work involved and as with most other business ventures, you always have risk.

I joined the CareCard family a few years ago

and took out CareCard membership for my 3

sons. Little did I know how soon I will need it.

The first claim was for my oldest son when he

got injured during athletics. I realised how

easily an incident can occur. I immediately

added myself and my husband and we up-

In March this year my other son was play-

ing in a rugby match and he thought he just

sprained his finger but after 2 days of immense
