Winterbourne View

 • Abuse at Winterbourne

• Commissioners did not know the patients or what was happening to them

• The voice of the person with learning disabilities was completely ignored

We need Care & Treatment Reviews because…

We are still admitting too many people with learning disability to hospitals.

Many people still feel hospital is the safest place.

Sometimes we don’t make good plans when peoples needs change. This means we spend lots of time responding in a crisis.

We can sometimes see people’s behaviours as a disorder which requires ‘treatment’.

Sometimes there is lack of high quality different community places

‘gives a real

voice to people

and their

families’ ‘You really feel

listened to’

‘it was very helpful in challenging my son’s current care’

So what do people who have been involved, say about CTRs?

‘makes you

feel part of an

equal team’‘it’s very

person centred’
