Care to Elders An initiative to Care Elders Introduction In the present milieu Elders do need external help. By a keen observation by our survey team conducted in the area of Freedom Fighters Vihar, it was revealed that the situation is not at all good. Elders do need help for their daily needs. The needs elucidated by Elders in the survey can be categorized in following categories. 1. Nothing to do after retirement 2. They want to do something, but are discouraged by Society and family 3. Not getting their due space to work and live peacefully 4. No place to spend sometime, constructively 5. Lack of health services especially for Elders

Care to EldersAn initiative to Care Elders
Introduction
In the present milieu Elders do need external help. By a keen observation by our survey team conducted in the area of Freedom Fighters Vihar, it was revealed that the situation is not at all good. Elders do need help for their daily needs.
The needs elucidated by Elders in the survey can be categorized in following categories.
1. Nothing to do after retirement2. They want to do something, but are
discouraged by Society and family3. Not getting their due space to work and live
peacefully4. No place to spend sometime, constructively5. Lack of health services especially for Elders6. Health Services provided by the Institutions
where they worked are either inadequate or unavailable for retired employees, which force them to overlook their health issues
7. There is no harmony in imparting Health Services by Central Government and State Government.
8. Not getting good nutrition, due to their different calorie needs than other family members, who are young and need tasty and rich calorie food
9. Rejection by Family and Society, due to lack of understanding them and their psychology
10. They are being used by family members for jobs which can be undertaken by menials.
11. Governments apathy to give special care to Elders who have given useful service to the nation when they were young
12. It was observed that some of the elders are depressed or likely to fall a victim of depression
Fall out from the above observations
Almost all elders are in low esteem, due to the present situation. Some of them are managing themselves, by fighting with courage. Some are engrossed in religious activities for forgetting the present situation. Unfortunately few who could not manage with their plight are suffering from a disease called Depression.
Medicines and Health Services are either very very costly or out of reach for pensioners who do not get Health cover from their Institution where they worked. With the result, some of them are in the grip of diseases without any medical treatment and suffering
